So probably some people stared at this thread title blankly and wondered what I was talking about, but many years ago, back in the dark ages before G3 existed and before anyone used the term 'nirvana' for variants...in fact, possibly back before the Arena even existed, ponypeople discussed and voted on the idea of having an annual day to celebrate My Little Pony.
It was called Intenational Pony Day and it was designated to be on 2nd August each year. The date was decided because MLP began in the USA in 1982, and in American dating, 2nd August is 8/2.

I haven't seen mention of IPD for years and I think it more or less got forgotten with the passage of time and people moving on. But having had a notification about it this morning from the very old UK mailing list bot, and remembering that I found the graphic advertising it fom 2001 on the wayback for an old version of my website, it prompted me to make this post.

So, everyone, happy International Pony Day. :cheer: :cheer:
In the past, people would do things centred around it, like contests and whatever, but I think it would just be nice this year to acknowledge it. And maybe share pony pictures or pony thoughts of things that have happened in your collecting or fandom over the last year that you think are really special. Things that make being a pony collector great - things that only people here in the community are likely to fully appreciate.
For me my special moment of the year was getting Strawberry Fair and Stargleamer mint in their original packages, just like when I was a child. The nostalgia overload was amazing. I really treasure both of them and am so happy to have added them to my pony family.

Oh my gosh, I remember this! I made a webpage for a contest waaay back in 2001 for this occasion :lol: It was a webpage to represent my country and Strawberry Fair was the host on the webpage because she's red and white like the Danish flag ^.^

Hm, like the English flag too, come to think of it. So glad someone else remembers this going back!

That sounds like the best way to celebrate pony collecting - with more additions!
I have finally got all my pony doubles photographed. Phew. Rehoming can soon begin...

Happy International Pony Day. I wish I could share something fun and exciting that I did but today's been a quiet day. I'm hoping to share some good pony finds tomorrow if I'm lucky. :)

Well, if it helps, my day consisted of visiting my mother in hospital (hopefully she's coming home tomorrow, fingers crossed), helping Dad with the laundry and teaching him to use the microwave. As well as taking pony photos in the brief chinks of natural light that the day gave. I think it's ok to talk about things done recently though as well xD.

I tried logging in to my old e-mail account to see how many people (and who) voted for this date, but I can't remember my login correctly - or my password - or both lol. I remember it was close though... Had to think of something cheesy to celebrate ponies!
Didn't think anyone remembered it! :) I would've let the day pass without it even dawning on me. Three cheers to Taffeta for the pleasant reminder and happy memories.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I remember International Pony Day! I was in the community when it was created:p Thanks for the nostalgia trip!
In honor of International Pony Day, I went pony hunting. And now I'm off to tidy the pony room. Perhaps I'll sort some accessories tonight.
I would post a pony photo, but Photobucket doesn't do that anymore and I have yet to move my stuff to another service.
