Title: The complicated world that is Hasbro QC...
Post by: Taffeta on July 16, 2017, 10:56:17 AM
I know that we've talked about this a LOT, about the QC on G4 ponies, but I was out in town with my sister when she was home the other week and found these. They were both so sad looking and basically weird I ended up buying them both.

So this is the exact same pony.
Let me repeat that.
Exact. Same. Pony.

I feel like it's some kind of weird Hasbro spot the difference quiz :)

Most weird of all is how the packaging of the one of them (the paler one on the...right?) squishes her ear so she looks a bit like a lop-eared dog or something. But it's not just that. The head position, hair position, even wings are different too. Even the tone of body and hair is different. They DO come from different batches, but IMO they both failed QC. The one on the left has a really badly fitting head :/

I've taken a bunch of photos of them close up, both are still in their packages at the moment though I may take them out when I go back home - just haven't had a chance to.

Other photos can be found here:

I apologise for Shady's photobombing. My sister thought it was funny.

(Yes, she really is turning 30 this year). >.>

Looking at this, I think maybe we can figure out the reason why we have so many minor variations in G1. I mean, think of all those Peachys, Lemon Drops, Cotton Candy. THIS IS HOW IT HAPPENED.

In 20 years, Fluttershy is going to be THAT pony. O.o.

The world of Hasbro QC isn't complicated at all, it's completely imaginary and doesn't exist!  ;)

Looking at these two, I could believe it.
My sister bought Honey Rays from the same store and we compared hers with mine which came from a different store. This matters because mine was in Canadian packaging and hers in European packaging. There's some QC issues - mad glitterglue wings mostly - but aside from some wonky eye paint the difference between them is really not that great. Originally packaged for two different markets but more similar than two from the same market...

Meanwhile two Fluttershys in the same packaging look like that O.o. Very strange.

True, but in the case of G1 we have countless cool errors and variants as a result. :)

My fave Hasbro QC mess up was when someone on the Arena found EQG Princess Celestia . . . but Hasbro had only included the head of the doll, no body.

I would have bought one so fast.  :P

I bought a Legend of Everfree EQG Sunset Shimmer, but she was in Applejack's box.

I wonder if that was genuinely QC or a "Return Mishap" as the MH Arena put it - apparently there's a trend in dolls being bought and then returned with incomplete or wrong contents and stores just shoving them back on the shelves without looking. Because Celestia was a doll missing her body she might fit in to this category. Maybe someone for customising...?

Pff, Hasbro QC, what's that? :P

Who was it who got a blind bag (think it was a unicorn?) with three eyes, was that on here? What about the Fluttershy w/ one eye? :P Not to mention this Lyra I've got:

I'm starting to think hasbro doesn't have a QC too, considering my blind bag Snails with two cutie marks on the same side

Haha oh yes, that's true. There are lots of weirdities popping up.

But it does in my opinion put paid to the annoying theory that every single colour difference on old G1 ponies is fading/discolouration. Bottom line is it's Hasbro o.O. They weren't consistent then, they aren';t now...which is ironically a weird kind of being consistent.

I am still trying to decide whether to get these two mishaps out of their boxes when I go home. I am already leaning towards calling the one with the bent ear Muttsi...not sure about the other. Klutzi? That seems possible. They can be Fluttsi's minions.

I think genuine QC error because there were several of them. :P

O.o. Ok. That is a slightly extreme case xDDDDD I can't even imagine how they got through...

Weirdities must now be entered in the dictionary.

Anywho, Hasbro and QC are non existent these days. That doesn't just go for mlp. Three of my daughter's transformers have had their stupid limbs popping off since day one. Especially Skull cruncher and Sand sting.

Absolutely O.O. It's a word I use a lot and I often get a strange look for it :/ Dictionaries are so behind the times...

I wonder if it's just a general trend across toys in general. Clearly meeting safety standards and meeting QC levels are not considered the same thing. Though I do wonder how things like goopy hair on MH dolls (Mattel) got through as a safety thing for kids, apparently it did (although the G2 dolls don't seem to have this problem). I would have thought limbs coming off would be a safety issue though with the Transformers...

Who knows, maybe that will be the trend for dolls in the future. That would make this Celestia ahead of her time.

I remember when someone posted about that here. And someone posted a link to this song: https://youtu.be/PeXjBWN8LO8?t=169

As for me: I haven't had any Hasbro made QC problems yet aside from a couple of brushables that had their heads change color slightly. Different story with Funko G4's though. I've got a Maud mini that has one eye lower than the other, and the larger ones that have glue splatters, loose parts, and in the case of my Luna a warped horn (she must have got into some poison joke).

I haven't had any particularly notable QC problems, beyond minor smudge marks or a single spec of dirt on a new pony every once in a while. That and greasy hair on pearlized G4s and a little on G4.5s, but that seems to be the new normal.

I haven't gotten any huge issues like missing bodies.

Ok, that Celestia is awesome. And I can see why they didn't notice, because the head is so well placed in the box that if you don't know what you're looking at, you might think it's a weird pony-with-a-severed-head toy...

No?
Ok then :P

At least Klutzi and Muttsi have both heads and bodies. Different coloured ones, but they are anatomically complete.

I've also found a pony who slipped through the cracks, a TY fluttershy with no symbols at all.

I originally planned to only collect G4 MIP. However when I went to buy the fluttershy/daisy dreams set, every single one was absolutely filthy.. on the inside of the packaging. So in order to have a nice set, I had to de-card them... and so I collect G4 loose now!!

I do too. It's disgusting. What the heck is Hasbro doing to make it feel like that?

Yeah, it's very strange. Are they doing it intentionally? Since it does seem to be the way everything is out of the package now they've either got to be unable to fix it for some reason or they're purposefully designing the hair to be that way. Recent ponies like 4.5s and pearlized G4s are super cute and I love them, but it should not be like this where I have to wash the hair of a brand new pony as soon as I get her.

It's really funny how people thought miscolored legs on new minis were rare errors but half of those minis had this "rare error".
