Title: Legit or bootleg?
Post by: invaderhorizongreen on June 19, 2017, 11:59:28 AM
Does anyone know if this plush is for real? I found them at the thrift store, and no idea how they got here.  I did not want to pass them up for $0.42 Either way they are in good shape, and I am not into this series so I dont know who they are either.

Bootleg.
The headband thing around it's neck looked familiar to me so i googled Naruto fox plush and it came up. I don't really know what it is since I've never seen that anime...

It's the nine tailed fox that was sealed away inside Naruto's body when he was a baby as it was attacking the village. I think the fox's name is Kurama (when I was searching for artwork of Kurama from a different series, this fox kept popping up).

*has been watching watching Naruto recently*

i don't think he's a bootleg.  it has the tag still on it, whereas a bootleg wouldn't. this plush is also readily available at cons and other anime-type stores, ive definitely seen it before. it is kurama from naruto :]

its just a lucky find for a thrift store! most anime fans do not give up their merch to thrift stores because its not uaully something you can buy at any toystore. im thinking most likely a con purchase, maybe the person wasnt into naruto anymore and was hoping somebody would appreciate it more.

i don't believe its like, "worth" much as in resale value, because you can still get them, but its still a really neat find!  i love finding anime merch in the wild : )

Bootlegs have tags and what is written on the tag is a big flag it's fake. No logo. No Japanese on the tag.

Some sellers at cons and anime stores sell bootlegs so that's a bad way of determining it.

It's bootleg. Not the real Ninetailed Fox Plush.

Funny thing I found some bootleg Pokemon figures at my local B&M store here in the U.K

They weren't made by Tomy.

I'll try and find the real Ninetailed fox plush and put the picture up.

Here's the picture

That one is a fake too. That company makes fakes of MLP plush.

I was going to say that. The tag instructions are in Chinese, and it's a Japanese character. There is absolutely no Japanese I can see on that, so I would call it a bootleg as well.

There seems to be a huge market in bootleg toys from successful franchises. I admit that I bought so many pokemon from the pokemon centres in Japan while there because I could guarantee they were not fake - whereas I don't totally trust stalls and booths at places here with pokemon plush to be the same. It's such a minefield.

There are more bootlegs around now than legit products-  and it is harder and harder to recognize them...

I will say even if this is bootleg it is of rather nicer quality than what I am used to seeing.

Some bootlegs are hard to distinguish from the original. The quality is just that good. Sometimes just a tiny difference in the tag is the only way to tell. And this was a really easy tag to figure out (probably because there isn't a legit one to copy from).

Those fakies with the 12 inch stickers on the picture - they are of really nice quality. I have one of Shroomish  :lookround: He was homesick for his native land, so I took him to China with me.  I want more but I don't have room for such big plushies.

I've got Eevee 12 inch plus. The glue that held the fluffy tuff came loose from the back and had a hole in it. My mum stitched the back, then stitched the fluffy tuff on the back also. So she's good as new now.

I know they shouldn't be, but some bootleg plushies are actually really cute. I've got a bootleg Growlithe and I love him.
