Title: Fake listings - don't fall for it!
Post by: ponytales on May 16, 2017, 02:57:30 PM
In case folks aren't aware, an eBay seller from China has stolen my pony images of Spanish Sweet Tooth and is passing her off as their own..... for £20!

They have also stolen a couple of Babydolls images for Alternate October & Nightlight. These are all under different user names but all from China, all Buy It Now's and all for crazy low prices, so I suspect this is the same person.

I have of course reported them so we'll wait to see if they're taken down.
Spread the word, don't fall for it!

Thank you for the warning!  Sorry you and Babydoll are going through this.  Do you have the sellers name(s)?

Omg i actually tried to buy this item thinking it was a cheap deal but they dont accept paypal and wanted me to send card details!! Luckily at that point i realised what was happening. I didn't even check to see where they were from. ( terrible newbie mistake from an old time collector!)

Are they just trying to get cash for nothing or looking to steal card details do you think??

Same happened to me! Glad our instincts are so keen! Thanks for the warning, I hope this gets sorted out!

Holy cow this is the sort of thing that can really ruin eBay if eBay doesn't figure out how to control it.

I know this isn't pony related, but we've (my parents and me) reported fake users post camper vans on eBay and we reported them. But they just keep popping up on the site.

I make sure that I keep an eye out for that seller that stole from you and babydoll.

Well after speaking with them last night, all I was told is that the Fraud Department would 'take the appropriate action'. But due to their privacy policies, I'm not allowed to be informed about the investigation or any action they may take (which, as of right now, they still haven't taken).

It seems as though Babydoll's stolen listings have been taken down after she told me she spoke to them over the phone. If nothing happens in the next few days, that may be the action I have to take just to get through to somebody.

As long as we in the community all know what's real and what's not - and as long as nobody is scammed out of any money - that's what really matters. I hate they are using my images but I can personally get over that. It's more that I don't want anybody to be fleeced.

I really appreciate the folks who informed me in the first place, otherwise I wouldn't have known!

I've just seen they've done it again with two of Babydoll's ponies. I went to report them but the listings have ended. Which says to me that somebody may have bought them.... I hope not   >_<

I told her about the first couple at the beginning if the week. She reported them over the phone and they were taken down.

I spotted another two this morning but they'd ended by the time I got to them.

And I've just seen they've nabbed another of mine (NSS Truly). And a few more of Babydolls.... this is getting ridiculous

Yea I am suspicious they are trying to get cc information along with an address.  Identity thieves.

Everyone needs to report these listings, and spam those sellers with requests for more photos, and ask LOTS of questions, "because the community is aware of some fake listings for this pony, so we're verifying every purchase with extra photos and info". That'll make them aware we know what's going on, and hopefully they'll move on, with an annoying inbox full of questions from buyers who don't actually want anything, take that, scammers!

For starters, I'm sending out a genuine-sounding message about condition, with a request for more photos, and then an oops, I forgot a detail, is there this issue (for example is her hair cut, it isn't mentioned in the listing, is her tail washer aligned neatly, etc, things a collector would ask) and then I'll wait for a reply and then whether or not I get one I'll just say that I'm verifying details because the pony community is aware that there is a scammer re-posting listings apparently, and without extra info/photos, I won't be purchasing. After I've wasted a good solid chunk of their time messaging me.

Great idea, Stormness. Let's hope they don't report us for spamming them!
Title: Re: Fake listings - don't fall for it!

Hey, I'm just asking completely valid questions about details that I'm very interested in knowing about. NSS Truly in particular is very easy to fake, and I'm just protecting my interests as a collector by asking for close-ups of, well..

every. single. possible. thing.

and then after all that, the listing didn't mention if she had a hair cut! OMG, I need to ask about that, of course!

and then...

if they can't provide pictures, then of course I can't buy her! The price is great, but I don't need the hassle of having to upgrade if she's not what I'm looking for!

 :snicker:

EDIT: GAHHH! Some listings appear to have auto-replies!!! I've been thwarted!!

Exact same message I received several times over a few listings from various seller accounts. Either copy and paste, or an auto-reply bot.

Well ive reported as many as i can but more just seem to keep reappearing! Is it maybe time to bring in authorities outside of ebay? I mean with the auto replies, stolen photographs and asking for certain CC details do you think we would have enough?

@Stormness "Is her tail washer neatly aligned?" How would someone even check for that?
The tail is even, as in, half isn't longer than the other half, because the washer is sitting properly and hasn't slipped or been pushed/pulled sideways.

*adds Stormness_1 at the top of my list of collectors never to piss off!*

Hehe, it's the red hair...
 :enraged:

But seriously, I've been scammed before, so I get really annoyed at people using something I love to hurt people.

I saw those listings too and new ones popping up after the first few. I have lost track of most of them but I noticed at least one of them was actually bought (a Nightlight). Did someone her buy it?
