Title: Best way to lighten and color doll hair?
Post by: artful_fox_customs on May 04, 2017, 11:40:40 AM
Hey guys, so I have been looking around on the internet trying to figure out the best way, besides sun fading, to lighten doll hair. I have seen and read that rubbing alcohol could work, but it doesn't seem likely. Any suggestions? I want to keep the hair intac since I can't reroot just yet.

Also, whats the best way to color doll hair? I know some people use sharpie, but I've done that and it has made the hair sticky and slightly stiff.

After years of trying to lighten and/or color doll hair and I've come to the conclusion that as hard as it may be, rehairing/making wigs is really going to be your best bet.
Please I beg you as a doll/toy lover stay away from things like Sharpie/paint etc for changing the hair color, it may take time but it will bleed at some point or another and ruin the doll in question if it doesn't just ruin the hair outright.

As for coloring, I'd go with a dye.

It really depends on what kind of artificial hair you're using in the first place - some respond to dye better than others. As for lightening hair, unless it's a 'fading' colour (like Posey pink, also found on some versions of G4 Fluttershy) you're really better off rerooting, as pretty much any other method leads to degradation down the line.

If you look at my hair guide in the forum, it'll tell you what kind of dye works for each type of hair-
