Title: Risers?
Post by: Bekuno on April 23, 2017, 07:39:44 AM
Hey guys! I know some of you have risers for your pony displays that way you can make multiple rows visible.

Is there a place I can buy these? And recommendations? Or will I have to make my own?

I currently have hand built ones but when I move out my girls are going into a new display case and I'd like to get some for them.

I use larger spice racks, and they work perfectly!

I made mine! I used some old phone boxes that weren't needed since they were the perfect size for my G3s. I put some wrapping paper on them to make them more colorful.

You can buy them or make them. Most make them out of stuff like cardboard or foam board, or just other boxes XD
I have one of those Spicey Shelves that works great for G4s but I only bought one box and plan on making a look-a-like with 3D printing

You can get cardboard or wood ones from here.  They're more for vendor's tables than anything, but should work well if you'd rather buy them than make them.

I make mine out of project boards from Lowe's.  They're fairly inexpensive and come in different widths.  It can get time-consuming, though.  I've been working on a new shelf arrangement for the past couple of weekends.

All of these ideas are so fancy, I feel so cheap, lol.   I just used 2x4's and cut them to fit my shelves, and it's nice as I can stack 2 of them in the back, then 1 more and then the shelf, and have 3 rows each display shelf.  I had to come up with something as my space is sooo limited and I have too many ponies (ha ha first world problem, right?)  :P

I got myself some wooden blocks so that I could stack them in a variety of ways to get the look I wanted.

I have been using old dvd cases since they are pretty easy to layer into the right heights if you have a bunch.  I've been thinking of switching to spice rack shelves but I have SOOOOOOO many poines that I'm kind of scared of the cost of doing that.

I have white expandable spice racks but have recently decided I need something more customized for my space to maximize the number I can display at once.

I save melty cheese/velveeta boxes, tape and glue them together in stair like stacks and cover them in paper v/////v

I made my own display case, so just used different widths of wood and spaced them how I wanted. It worked out okay, but I'm no longer happy with it, so I may be redoing it when I have both time and money to do so.

Hmmm.... I do have a lot of empty CD cases, if I can find them...

I use books and/or old VHS tapes/cases because why waste something that's perfectly useful. With the VHS boxes - not the plastic ones but the cardboard ones - they are really easy to cover over if you don't want to see the logos and stuff on them. The plastic ones may be as well, to be honest. Either way, those are a good cheap solution and great if you have VHS stuff still lying around the place. (But as I said, books also work, and are easily covered by a sheet or tissue or whatever you want in your display.

I mostly use books as I have too many of them and not enough bookshelves. My ponies have thus been sitting on books for the past ten or fifteen years.

I got some acrylic risers off eBay. They make everything look neat and tidy and I'm a stickler for the details even on my shelves :P

I second craft foam board shelving!  Inexpensive, and there are some really good tutorials on Pinterest, though I would recommend using a cutter specifically made for craft foam; makes cutting waaay easier, lol.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone! Their new display is wood with glass that sort of pulls over the front? It's an odd display case, I'll have to get photos.

I kinda wanted clear acrylic but my grandma left behind a bunch of dirty old book that are just going to be trashed so maybe I can use those! Unless they might hurt the ponies..

I use acrylic refrigerator organization bins and turn them upside down. Clean lines and perfect size for adult ponies. Two fit next to each other on each my Billy bookcases shelves with only about an inch remainder

Anita and I made our own risers.  We purchased clear dinking glasses of varying height (from yard sales or flea markets) and plexiglass.  This way we can control both the height of the shelf and the width.  It's also great when you need to move a shelf to a different sized area. This has worked for years.

I made my own with poster board. The good thing about them is you can adjust the measurements and make them the exact size u need. Link to my post here:
