Title: Is this really typical?
Post by: Wardah on April 19, 2017, 01:33:16 AM
There's something than never appeared in the US thanks to stores overordering earlier waves on ebay. It's in Australia and the shipping is $15 to the US. Is it normally that high or is the seller trying to make some extra money?

shipping going any direction in or out of australia is extremely expensive, some of the most expensive in the world. Because so many people in AUS are just...way out there off the grid, and its a Really Really REALLY big country. like, REALLY big. And most of it isn't even populated. Days upon days of travel just to get to the next town sometimes..  So yes, i would say 15$ is really typical of AUS shipping costs.

Yep, I'd say that's typical. It costs about the same to get a single G1 posted to Australia from the US, postage prices are going up globally and governments are actively trying to discourage buying overseas.

It doesn't sound too outlandish to me. I know Australia has high shipping costs in general.

Yeah, that's about normal to Australia. My relatives are over there, and that makes packaging Christmas gifts and sending them a bit of a headache both ways.

If anything it sounds a little discounted. I ship outside the US, including to Australia, quite often. And even for a 5oz padded envelope it starts at like 20$

It does sound discounted, I've done this so many times now with various sellers. Lowest shipping tier that works for ponies typically works out to about $18 USD to get from Australia to the US.

Yeah, it actually sounds a bit cheaper than I'd expect.

Whenever I ship to Australia its a minimum of $15 but mostly $20 + for anything, even small things. It is expensive!

Aussie post is very expensive, that price sounds cheap the seller is likey to be losing money (plus ebay tskes 9% plus paypal fees of post money). You can check the prices for yourself at auspost.com.au

Yep, I'd say that's been reduced to try to get some international business! I can never get international sales due to high shipping costs, I've actually stopped trying and just put 'Australia only' on all my listings - I had a LOOSE FS AJ online that someone from South Africa wanted a postage quote for - get ready for it.. $70AUD, in a bubble mailer!
