Title: Success sunfading a yellowed deflocked Paradise
Post by: Shy Violet on April 05, 2017, 10:40:09 PM
So I got a really yellowed and dirty SS Paradise last Summer in a lot. I already have a beautiful white Paradise with near perfect flocking so I decided to do my first deflock. Her flocking came off very easily with a hot oxy bath. Unfortunately her plastic was all yellowed from the glue. We don't get very much sun in the Fall and Winter here in Canada so she has been sitting in a window since September with me rotating her around every few days. I can't remember if I read if she was safe or not to sunfade but I decided to try it anyway and wow does she look amazing now! I covered her eyes with painters tape and her symbol with white acrylic paint. I did not cover her hair and her mane appears to have lightened slightly. All in all it worked wonderfully with her and I hope my yellow So Soft Gusty can get this white too. Here she is next to my nice white SS Paradise for comparison.

That's really nice! I never succeeded in sunfading (not much sun around these parts either and I have no patience to let a pony be for so long, haha)
I'm amazed how good she turned out! :D

Wow! And you're even farther north than I am. That's some strong sun, how long was she in the window may I ask?

Beautiful.  Paradise is my favorite pony.  I have a Paradise that was moc, but her outward facing side is yellowed.  Can you Sun fade flocking?  Or is she a goner?

Thanks everyone! For those of you saying you don't have the patience. I look at it this way, she could have spent the last 7 months on my pony shelf, a box or the window sill, lol. So really patience had nothing to do with it other than maybe wanting to take the paint of her symbols sooner. I got to walk by her several times a day and enjoy seeing her sunbathing in the window. When ever I thought about it I turned her around or upside down to get a different angle, no consistent schedule.  :)

She was in the window for 7 months! Lol! Not strong sun at all, it took a long time. The summer should be much better for sunfading now.

I'm trying to sunfade my SS Gusty too so I'll see if she's showing improvement. I would think it could work but I wonder if the sun is what yellowed her if it's only the one side? So weird.

i guess thats true! its just a different place in the house for her to sit. im just so impatient..i would want her to be done already! i hate having long term projects.

That, I totally get. I guess it makes the wait bearable because if she was sitting on my shelf she would be doing the same thing but staying ugly yellow, haha.
