Title: Has anyone ever attempted to re-animate the G1 episodes?
Post by: Deep Purple Crystal on March 29, 2017, 12:29:10 AM
Watching through some of the G1 episodes, it came to my attention that while many of the stories in the G1 show were fairly strong at their core, the impact of too many scenes was lessen by awkward (often stilted) animation undeserved by the episode - just look at the climax of 'Crunch the Rockdog' and pretty much the entirety of 'Spike's Search' (where I could barely even deduce what was occurring on-screen). I've heard some people (such as Al1701) suggesting a re-animation of specific G1 episodes, but has anyone in living memory actually taken on the project?

It would be awesome to see them reanimated! I haven't heard of anyone trying it, unfortunately. But the poor animation bugs me, too.

I have ideas to test out. I am somewhat experienced with Anime Studio Pro (now Moho Pro).

It's literally always been my ambition to do this! I'm currently studying for a Bachelor of Animation, and when I feel I'm good enough/have graduated, I really want to attempt this!

That would be something to see.

I think the animation is beautiful though, it's realistic and cartoony, there's tons of detail and the way things like characters, or trees or rivers move, flow well.  I'm honestly tired of the claim that older hand drawn animation is bad and inferior to flash just because it has errors. Flash to me is flat, simple, cookie cutter and lacks detail.

As interesting as it sounds, it would not be an easy task. Animation is so time consuming, and if I were reanimating an episode I'd put a lot of detail in. Plus Hasbro has been known to C&D things and may destroy the artists hard work making it a moot point.

It would take sooo much work, but I'd love to see it.  People always try to excuse MLP & Friends with "But it was the 80s, and for the time--"  LOL, compare it to "Real Ghostbusters", "Dungeons & Dragons" (which I believe was done by the same company who did RaMC), "Thundercats", "Alvin & the Chipmunks", or even the other 80s Sunbow shows and you'll see that the animation was terrible "for the time" as well.

But take heart: it's still not as bad as Filmation's He-Man.  That was truly bottom of the barrel.

Ahh, I like it even with all its flaws and whatnot. It would be interesting to see a re-animated version though (as long as it wasn't in the G4 style >__>), although like others have said, it'd be a LOT of work, especially since there's every chance that Hasbro would shut it down.

and pretty much the entirety of 'Spike's Search' (where I could barely even deduce what was occurring on-screen).

(Slightly off-topic I guess, but omg I am so glad to hear I'm not the only one that has that problem w/ this ep ^^;; Good ep, but man that one had some wonky animation.)
