Title: Pokemon Centers are bad for me. (Update: Kyoto Pokemon Center Pics, new 13th )
Post by: Taffeta on March 18, 2017, 01:16:21 AM
Before I came to Japan I really thought there was only a Pokemon Center in Tokyo, at Ikebukuro. But I have since discovered there are more of them around the country. And visiting them is a very bad idea for my wallet...

It's bad enough that this happened in Kyoto...

Very unique! I love them! I would have to make space for them, if it were me.

The worst things are the little tsumtsum type floppy pokemon. They are all so adorable and I keep wanting to buy more of them...

So cute! May I ask what Lilligant is holding in that picture? I high-key thought it was a dorito at first glance

On one hand, I'm super jealous that you have access to all of those cute, exclusive plushies over there in Japan. On the other hand, I'm kind of lucky that I don't have a Pokemon Center near me because all of my savings would be spent on Rowlet and Rockruff merch. :P

Haha that looks like restraint to me :)
Congrats on the cute merch!

I have seen a ton of merchandise for both of those, so you would probably be doomed xD.
I don't even like Pikachu that much, but the Maiko Pikachu is somehow so cute that I had to have her. Sigh.

Lillie is holding a Fuji Senbei. I'm in Kyoto now, but I spent a week in Tokyo and did a trip out to Fuji. I bought some of the senbei or rice crackers from there and I still have a few left. It was just the right size for her to hold, and with it in package, her hands (leaves?) didn't get dirty xD. It was just the right size for her!

They're this kind of thing:
http://tokyopic.com/article/544

It only looks like restraint because most of my favourite pokemon don't get plushed. I am principally a grass pokemon lover, and most of them don't get attention like some of the others. But I'm also lately obsessed with white Vulpix. In fact, the reason I went to three pokemon centers was originally that I was searching for the Alolan Vulpix and Hiroshima was the only one that had her. There is an exclusive version of her up in Sapporo, apparently, which is way too far away, but I am just happy with the basic plush.

There is actually a fourth Pokemon Center store I can get to from here, which is in Osaka, but I don't think my wallet can cope.

So that's what those things are called! I've seen those crackers in anime a couple of times in the past and have always wondered what the characters were munching on.

They have tons of merchandise for Rowlet and Rockruff over there, you say? Darn. Now I am jealous! XD
Last time I checked, there is little to no Sun and Moon stuff (especially plushies) where I live. The only Rowlet related thing I've seen in the wild is this Jumbo Sized/Trainer Sized plush that I can in no way afford space wise or price wise.

And here I thought Rowlet was this American soccer ball sized bird friend. Nope. Apparently he's bigger than my head.

Yep, there is a ton of sun and moon stuff out here. But the positive is that some of that will probably trickle to other places with time. They also seem to bring out new stuff practically weekly, so it would be impossible to keep up with it all.

The worst thing about the tsumtsumish ones is that there are 2 versions of each - open eye and closed eye. As if there wasn't enough to choose from...><

I had a look to see if I had any pictures of Sun and Moon stuff but I don't...I only took pics in Ikebukuro and I have seen most of the SunMoon stuff in the others.

Oh boy yeah are Pokemon Centers dangerous. When I found out about their existence I vowed to visit Japan and make a Pokemon Center my first stop. However, if they don't have Rattata merch then I will be very disappointed. Rattata is my favourite Pokemon and he doesn't get enough recognition!

I haven't seen Rattata, but with the new Alola version he will probably appear.
I feel the same about Vileplume (Kusaihana) and Bellossom (Kireihana). Grassies are often overlooked.

My Ratata is in the highest percentage of Ratatas.

I went back to the Kyoto store yesterday to buy my sister a present for finally getting her PhD confirmed (yes, she's as mature as I am ;)) and so I took some pictures for anyone who is interested. They were really low on the floppy tsumtsum type characters - I think those are really popular as they only had a handful of Absol, Zorua Gardevoir.

Hiroshima and Tokyo both have different figure statues. Hohou is one of the Kyoto mascots, I think. The kimono-clad Pikachu are only available in Kyoto, but the little one in Japanese dress is available in all the stores; it's part of their pokemon of the world collection (you can see the Statue of Liberty is the American Pikachu, and there's a Dutch one, I think a UK one, etc)

So anyhow, pictures are here - this is the link for the whole folder:

But here's a taster ;)

Warning - the images are large on the link list because basically I'm too lazy to fight my horrible PC to resize them ;)

I'm a pikachu fan, so yeah, I would be absolutely doomed if I walked in there. I'd buy all the current easter stuff... and the gummy pikachu.........*__* Things that I wish were on the USA pokemon center webpage. bah.

Okay the UK needs them. How do they expect you to be the very best if they don't have any in your home region?

We do?

We have 2 vending machines in Washington, and the Nintendo store in NYC (Which USED to be a Pokemon Center). BUT, we have the online store, which is great. Unfortunately we don't get all of the stuff that's released in Japan. u_u;

-DROOL- I'm so jealous, aaaa!! I so wish we had Pokemon Centers over here. That Marill plushie!! *__*

I agree w/ you about the Kuttari plushies (the Tsum Tsum-ish ones), they're adorable! I've got a few and I'm so tempted to just get them all XD

(And it's so nice to see another Oddish line fan ^^)

Ahhh the stuffels are super cute! dunno on spelling of it's name on the fly... The main reason I want to visit Japan is Disney Tokyo, Food, and a pokemon center. Otherwise UK is still top of my to travel list. Sadly both are expensive to visit.

The UK is a ton cheaper for someone from the US to visit at present, thanks to Brexit taking 40 cents off the value of each pound. Sigh. But that's another matter.

Every time I go to that store there's something different. Today it was Ditto-ed pokemon en masse ( basically a whole lot of pokemon merch of different characters but with a goofy Ditto face).

Depending on what you want to see UK is cheaper, but overall Japan is cheaper in my budget with the things I want to visit. Vs UK which there are many more things I want to see. Majority of my family history is all over UK so I'd probably want to check out a few cemeteries/libraries etc for research. Where in Japan I have less of a tie to so less things on the bucket list. Though I think I'd gain like 15 lbs going to Japan just from their food haha.

Japanese food <3

It would depend on where in the country, to be honest. London and the South East is more expensive than the rest of the country.

Also, someone mentioned Rockruff earlier in the thread. Last time I went, they'd got a big bin of some new cutesy Rockruff plush with a big head and little body. I think he's going to be popular for a while.

@Carrehz - I did get an Oddish plush in Tokyo but I posted her home so I don't have a photo. Here the best I managed was what I am calling Dittoplume - Ditto vileplume keychain. She has a goofy face. She is also now in the post home, though.

I paid probably my last visit to the Kyoto Pokemon Center today and as usual there was more new stuff I hadn't seen before, so I took some more photos.

Especially Olympus - Rockruff and Rowlett feature here :)

I also got a photo of the zonked Ditto-faced Vileplumes and others. It's a bit scary...

Same folder as before, photos with a 13th date.
