I've been wearing glasses since I was a kid. Perhaps the 3rd grade? I have a brief dalliance with contacts about a decade ago. I liked them well enough, but it made my eyes and head feel a little funny if I looked at a computer screen for a long time while wearing them. When the lenses wore out, I didn't renew my prescription and just stick to glasses. Perhaps I will get them again someday, but I don't have an optometrist. I just order my glasses online.

How's about you? :)

My eyesight has always been good, however I did have surgery to fix a strabismus in my left eye.  If I didn't get it fixed, I would look like setup hooves. But blind in one eye...

I mainly wear contacts, but I just got a new pair of glasses so I'll wear those when I don't have my contacts in.

My eyesight is *almost* perfect.  My right eye is like 20-30 or something, but my left eye makes up for it, so I have 20-20 overall.

I always joke with the eye doctor (who always writes me a prescription just in case) that I will have to order a monocle, haha.

I got glasses in 2nd grade and wore them for 20 years.  I was never a candidate for laser surgery because my eyes were too bad.  Laser surgery basically sculpts your cornea so if your cornea are too thin, it will just punch holes through them--not a good alternative.  In 2009 my eye doctor told me about Varisyse.  Basically, it's permanent contact lenses.  They open up your eye, slip in the lens and sew up your eye again.  Then they can use lasik to fine tune your sight.  My prescription was -10 in one eye and -12 in the other.  It is now 20/20 and has been for about 7 years.  According to the surgeon who did my eyes, they can do Varisyse on people with a prescription of up to -24, so people who are legally blind can get this done and have success seeing again.  Though he did also say that people who were in the range for lasik found that they preferred just doing lasik over Varisyse.

I had cataract surgery last November on both eyes.  The doctor inserted lenses when he removed the cateracts.  I was supposed to be able to see both near and far with these lenses, but currently am unable to see close up.  He has adopted a wait and see approach, waiting to see if the lenses will "settle" in better.  If not, he will use his laser to adjust my eyes so that I can see close up.  So, right now I am having trouble reading and even worse, I can't sew!!  I am hoping to have this problem taken care of in plenty of time to make some plushies for the Fair in September.  Got my fingers crossed.

Even though my close up vision isn't quite right yet, I love not having to wear glasses.  I have worn them since I was 9 years old!  LOL, for me, that's a really loooong time.

I've worn glasses since I was about 8. So I'd guess it's been about ten years now.

No, but I need to get glasses. My eyesight is a bit blurry these days. My mom always warned me not to read, play and watch tv in the dark. That'll teach me to ignore her.

I have glasses and I have them since elementary school. I have really tried contacts but I couldnt get used to them. I thought about surgery but that is expensive too. :/

Glasses here - have since I was a kid. I went a few years without them in grade school, after my eye corrected some, and then went back to them in high school. I've never done contacts and won't try them - I am waaaaaaaaay too squeamish around my eyes to be able to handle putting them in. I can't even do drops properly (seriously, even the professionals have trouble getting drops in my eyes).

I've had to wear glasses since I was about 13 years old, my eyesight is atrocious (both of my parents have similarly terrible vision - thanks for that, guys!) XD I tried contact lenses for all of about 1 minute but couldn't get my hand near my eye without freaking out so an optometrist had to take them out for me. I'm hoping to get laser surgery at some point, that is provided my eyes arent too messed up for it. Fingers crossed!

I did a correction surgery about sig months ago which is one of the best things I've ever done. I used to have contacts up till five years ago when my optician discovered a cold virus in both eyes. It never went away so I was forbidden to use contacts and was stuck with glasses which i never got comfortable with.

I have worn glasses since I was around 6 years old. I used to have bifocal glasses but my eye doctor finally decided the little benefit I was getting from them wasn't worth the cost. I am so used to wearing glasses that if feels strange not to wear them.

My distance vision started getting worse last year, but I didn't do anything about it until I added the vision plan to my insurance for this year.  I got my glasses last week, and I only really put them on when I'm driving or going out  somewhere, and tend to take them off when I'm at work or home since I'm not used to wearing glasses.

Back when I was 11, I went to Disney World in December, and I remember explaining to my mom that a lamp in the distance looked blurry, afterwards she told me that I probably needed glasses (which I felt bad about because I needed braces at the time as well)

So ever since I've been wearing glasses ever since, I could wear contacts, but putting something in your eyes like that always disturbed me :yikes:

I remember starting to notice that the white board was blurry when I was 12/13. I got my first pair of glasses right as I was starting high school, I did my orientation days half blind and turned up for my first classes with glasses. :P

The funniest moment was when I first put them on and was like "Omg trees have leaves?!"

I don't really wear them around the house if I don't need. I love to shop for new frames though, I get tired of frames sooner than my prescription changes.

Which is weird because I use the computer and other tech stuff probably more than anyone else in my family...and they all wear glasses or contacts.

I've had glasses since I was 15. At first just for reading, writing, computer use and watching TV (so basically, most of the time!), been wearing them full-time since I was about 20. The idea of contacts or surgery makes me feel icky! I actually really like my glasses, and (rather vainly) I think they quite suit me, so I am happy being a short-sighted person :)

I'm like, -12 in contacts and -14 in glasses.  I wear glasses at home, but they make everything look smaller which is annoying.  I'd consider laser surgery, a couple of family members had it.  But I'm also afraid of blindness, sort of a phobia, so I'd need some convincing :)

When I did the eye test for my driver's licence (long, looooooong ago), they told me to wear glasses for driving. I did so, but I don't drive anymore, so I haven't worn glasses in years. I haven't even got them in the UK with me. If I ever get the impression that my eyesight might benefit from a little help, I'd have to do a new eye test and get new glasses fitted anyway.

I wore glasses from age 5-7 to strengthen one of my eyes. It corrected and I haven't had to wear them since. Although I am approaching 40, and my vision at night is not what it used to be. I'm guessing I'll have glasses again in the next few years.

I wear glasses. One eye is nearsighted and the other is farsighted so one lense is always thicker than the other. I am due for an eye exam soon. I've had these glasses for over five years. Probably why I am a bad nighttime driver.

I did both eyes at the same time. It wasn't painful at all. I had my husband do his a year before me because I was a chicken. But his turned out so well I went for it. He gets halos (headlights and streetlights emits halos for him) at night sometimes because of it but he's gotten used to it. It can happen as a result of this procedure. But both of us are happy. Just be sure to go somewhere accredited.

BTW, my Dad has a high risk of glaucoma. He might even have it already and have had surgery for it, I don't remember. And he had lasik.

I wear glasses when I have to see things from far away.  Like the tv or a sign when im in the car and have to read out what street is coming up.

Im on the line...like ON the line for being able to drive with or without glasses--if I ever decide I want to learn how (MA is accident prone and theres a whole thing surrounding that so..yeah).  Im sure another year or two and id have to legally wear them.

I got glasses when I was 26.  I hadn't been to the eye doctor for quite a few years and my mom suggested I go because she saw me squinting.  I was surprised to hear that I needed glasses.  I need to wear them all the time, except in bed and in the shower.  Once I got my glasses, my headaches lessened quite a bit.  I would really like to get Lasik, but with Lupus it might not be a good idea.

Same here -- I expect to need glasses when I get older, but don't need them right now. That's a good thing because I'd probably want to wear contacts and putting them in has always freaked me out, ever since I was little and watched my older brother struggle to put his in when he was learning :/

I've needed glasses since I was about 12 but was then told I only needed them for close work and driving which was fine up until about 4 years ago when it became apparent that I needed something full time and I hated glasses so gave contacts a go and haven't looked back (Pardon the pun there!)

I've needed corrective lenses since 2nd grade, possibly earlier. When I was younger, about every 3-6 months I would tell my mother we had to go back to the eye doctor, because I couldn't read the VCR from the couch. Luckily, the changes slowed way down and I was finally able to get contacts for my high school graduation. I've never looked back.

Currently, I use my glasses to find my contacts in the morning and my bed at night. Without them, I'd be close to legally blind. I certainly wouldn't want to be driving.

I admit that Lasik interests me. I worry about the cost but I would really like to know what it feels like to open my eyes in the middle of the night and actually see things, instead of masses of darker and slightly lighter blurred shapes. I mean, I know that's probably my bookcase, but don't ask me where the actual shelves are on it.

I had really good eyesight for a long time and all of the sudden I could not see to read.  It has gotten worse and worse to the point I can't really see anything up close as it is a big blur.  I have glasses and use them constantly. I also have to have a magnifying glass for small things like threading a needle and stuff like that.  Its a huge bummer. I want to have surgery on my eyes to fix this because, it is getting on my nerves.

My eyes have been tested last years and I should be wearing glasses. Though at the time I had no proper ensurance to cover the cost. In the Netherlands you can choose different ensurance "packages" which covers certain medical needs like extra dental care etc. I never had issues with my eyes untill a few years ago when I noticed I was always squinting to see or read things in the distance, not even that far actalualy. People always told me I look angry. So I tested my eyes and afterwards the lady told me to look around in the optician store for a frame. I told her I wasn't sure if my ensurance covered glasses so I told her I'd come back, but I never did.

My eyesight isn't that horrible. But it begins to bother me and seems to get slightly worse as time goes by. So I probably should go back.

So far I'm in the small percentage of my family to not need glasses. I do need to make an eye doctor appointment though, I've never been and it's not super high on my priority list. So it's been being pushed off for about 2 years now?

I have an allergy to plastics, plus a condition that makes my eyes dry.... trying contacts wasn't a good idea. I've never had trouble touching my eyes. The allergy made it horrible.
The rest of my family over the age of ten, literally all of them, wear glasses, but say that they wouldn't be able to put contacts in.

Glasses have been in my life for a very long time. I was in preschool (age 4). I will never be able to wear contacts; I have a lazy eye and wear glasses for protection. I see OK out of the dominant eye. Plus as an adult I have allergies that settled into my eyes, even more reason to avoid touching my eyes at all costs.

Had glasses from second grade till I was 28 or so when my husband convinced me to see about Lazik. I love swimming and took the kids to local pools and swimming holes, tubing etc.. but kept my glasses on because I needed to see if my kids were safe. Contacts wouldn't work for the either, so he finally told me that it was a quality of life issue and the cost wasn't prohibitive as they had 4 years no interest financing at the time.
It was scary but not painful, I did have dry eyes and rainbows during night driving for a few months but that's gone now and I have 20-15 vision now. It's amazing!

I've had to wear glasses for long-range vision since I was a kid, but I narrowly passed my driver's exam and don't need the "corrective lenses" endorsement on my license. Which is very handy if i get pulled over and forgot to get my glasses that day!

My sister just got bit by this last week! Big fat fine! They take this seriously! I would get LASIK if I could afford it.

I got my glasses when I was 10. At 14 I tried contacts for about 6 months. It was okay, but kind of too much work in the mornings and once my left contact lense just went missing. It was horrible feeling not seeing with one eye. Worst thing was that the lense was on back of my eye somehow and it stayd there for several hours. That really creeped me out!  :|

I've had glasses for so long that they feel like part of me. It feels naked to be without them plus I really don't see much without, only very very close. I've been told that Lasik would not be long term effective on my eyes. I don't know if that is true but I rather wear my glasses than have to go trough some operation that wouldn't help. I'm happy with my glasses.  ^.^

I use glasses since I had...  12 or 13, I think. From a day to other I just cant read the board in class. Sadly in all this time, nearly 10 years, my vision got worse every day  Years ago I only need glasses to see far away from me, now I cant read things 50cm ahead my face, sigh.

I tryed to use contacts but I just dont like them, I prefer common glasses  ;)

I've worn glasses since I was six years old - I am short sighted, and my eyes are getting steadily worse as time goes on  :( I've had four, maybe five, goes of laser surgery - not corrective, but preventative, as I have early stage glaucoma, and if I dont have repetitive goes of that lasering, I could end up with strained and/or burst blood vessels which would cause permanant black patches in my vision. This actually did happen to a former work manager who is now registered blind, so I make very sure that I go for regular eyecheck ups at the hospital.

To add to that joy, I have recently been diagnosed with cataract in my right eye.

I'm doing well  :lookround:

My eyes are....hm. Well.

EVERYONE in my family, including extended family, has glasses. All of them. Everyone has bad eyesight in one way or another.  My mom, her father, and I are distinctly farsighted. I had reading glasses once as a child, but I barely wore them and they just sat in a drawer for years. I'm kind of fussy when it comes to having things on my face or head, and glasses are one of them.

Somewhat recently I noticed my vision getting noticeably worse with focusing on things, especially if it's small font (probably because I spend so much on time on computers/staring at small text at work). Turns out I have slight astigmatism and farsightedness, but it only really affects me when I'm looking at a screen or a book or something. Even still, I don't wear my glasses like I should--I've been glasses-less for so long that wearing them makes my head hurt, so I don't put them on. And now that my new job involves staring at a screen or flipping through giant tomes of text all day, I think it's getting worse.

Long story short, I don't, but I probably should.

As a child I was told I needed glasses/contacts, but could never get myself to actually wear them much. I was required to wear them to drive. But I would never drive in the end, so... Yeah.

I wear glasses. I looked into getting contacts at one point. However, as a result of two separate eye lacerations as a child, I have a terrible blink reflex that makes it impossible to get anything even remotely close to my eyeballs.

Recently had to get some Rx reading glasses. I feel so scholarly when I wear them. :)

I started wearing glasses full time about 4-5 years ago. Back in middle school and high school I only wore reading glasses. I haven't considered wearing contacts - honestly the idea kinda freaks me out.

How crazy is it that the vast majority are sight impared? :O I mean like, genetically? That's a weird trait to become dominant lol

I wear glasses.

Weirdly, when I got a new prescription last year my vision had actually gotten better!

My contact lens fell out and ripped in the middle of the workday yesterday. I usually keep spares in my desk but I didn't. I drove home one-eyed.

I feel like I'm in the minority. I LOVE wearing glasses. I just think I have a face for them. I order all mine online though zennioptical.com but I'm looking for a funkier pair soon.

it's pretty fascinating to me that only 22% of people on here have good vision  Like, it's a genetic abnormality that is not good, yet has become dominant! How strange.

I've worn glasses since I was 4 years old, I feel weird without them now! I honestly love them and I don't think I'd go without them even if I could. People always say they suit me.

I usually wear glasses. I have soft-ish facial features, so sharper specs kind of help offset them, and I can't really afford to go without-- I can only see colored blobs anything more than a foot or so from my face without.

I'll wear contact lenses for special occasions, but I don't really enjoy it. For some reason my eyes get dry really fast.

I think I first got glasses in 5th or 6th grade? I'll probably continue sticking with glasses. Taking contacts in and out seems like it would be annoying, and sometimes I'll hear about people getting them stuck in their eyelids and it takes a while to get them out. Plus glasses can be more fashionable.

I wear my glasses constantly, the only exceptions are when I'm sleeping or in the shower/bath/swimming/etc, my vision is poor enough to where I wouldn't be able to function without them. Taking off my glasses while typing just this sentence and the only reason I'm doing it half-way decently is because I type a lot so I'm memorized the placement of all the letters, I can barely make out what I've typed while sitting at my normal distance away from my laptop.

*puts glasses back on*

I'm near-sighted, when I first needed glasses I just had trouble reading things on the white boards at school sometimes, and then when I got my glasses the difference was amazing, I could see the individual leaves on trees more clearly, I hadn't even noticed much that I needed glasses that badly until I actually got them.

Now however, it's super obvious when I take off my glasses that I need them. Things a little less than a foot away from me become blurry, things further away are just like blurry colors vaguely shaped like things. I'd probably die if I were to go outside and try to function without my glasses. :P
