Title: G3 prototypes/ odd balls/ test ponies
Post by: nhal039 on January 12, 2017, 11:45:26 PM
Just wondering how many types of these out there (the head/ body/ tails switched around ones i dont really count, nor those with just missing symbols as i think these are to easily forged although i dont deny some where authunitic).

I can only think of the 3
Ribbon and hearts
Aqua haired comic con 2010
Maroon striped hair instead of black hair comic con 2011

Is there others?

There are some dark orange blank ponies floating around somewhere! They are pretty nifty looking! There's also a a pearly white pony with stars as her cutie mark. I think she was a test for the Devine n shine ponies.

Oh yes thats right i forgot all about her, stormy had then sold her to ember. She is such a neat pony i wish she was released.
A few of the blanks where in nz by a collector i remember the orange and purple and there was another colour, pink maybe? Oh its all coming back to me thanks.

Would love to hear of others :)

I've got some blanks, as well as some symbolless ponies who I deboxed myself, so I can confirm their authenticity (I have pictures of them before and after deboxing as well).

I also remember someone selling some g3s on eBay with missing symbols, eyes and hoof hearts, as well as slightly different hair from the official release and the packaging plastic in their hair. I didn't buy any - sadly, I was on a tight budget but I would've loved them 8( - so I can't confirm, but they looked authentic to me.

The pearlized G3 in someones signature is a prototype I think?

I have this girl. Her eyes and hoof heart both seem to be hand painted. She was sold to me as a "G3 prototype", but she could also be an amazing fakie.

Yeah! I've never seen her anywhere else outside the signature. Anyone know what became of her?

Also, Stormy was selling a Morning Monarch with a flipped symbol a while back. I guess she must have sold, but I haven't heard anything about her either.

I like that pose, she seems so happy and proud leaning back like that, as if she was showing something off (that hoof symbol maybe?) :)
I am absolutely no G3 expert, but I have seen several fakies in this exact pose, without any symbols - while the pose and the size seemed to be accurate, and even the "construction" was nicely done, the weight of those ponies definitely differed compared to a regular G3 (they were much lighter, and their body much more... how to say... flexible, compared to a usually rather hard G3 body), and the hair was also very different (very stiff and straight, not falling nicely, but sticking up). how do your pony's features compare to a regular G3? :)

Her plastic seems very similar to a regular G3, but her hair doesn't seem as nice. It has a prema-frizz to it. I'd be completely cool with her being a fakie, but no one ever seems to be like, "Hey I have one of those too!" lol. She is a odd mystery pony. At least to me. Hahahahaha

Oh! And these too: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,373192.msg1459709.html#msg1459709

One of them is a blank Puzzlemint, and as far as I know the others were never produced at all.

The 3 I had were the Pearly one in my sig (she was sold to a member here), then there was a clear glitter version of the purple one (her name escapes me, she was sold to Ember1) and then the morning monarch with the reversed symbol.

Thank you! The one on the left and in the second picture by herself is the prototype, unreleased version, or whatever you want to call her. The other one is the mass produced silver glow and I'm sure you can find her :)

Whoaaa So pretty!

Does anyone have pictures of the original G3 ponies images that were released years ago before G3 came out? Those were so cool and if I remember correctly were pearly and much different from the actual releases. Would be cooler if anyone had one of those prototypes

Here's a stock photo for Abracadabra, who was released in a totally different pose than this. I wonder why they changed their minds?

I can't remember who owned this January Carnation, if someone knows please tell me so I can credit them for the picture :)

And here are my symbolless Pinkie Pie and Candy Apple in their boxes. Sorry the photo quality is so horrible.

I so remember that Carriage pony! Such a shame she didn't get released.

I was trying to find the original images of G3 ponies but I found this (not my image):

The unreleased Awareness pony came in 2 versions, first version clearly a test run. The later version just didn't get released in the end. :) (I have one MIB though)

I have longed for that carriage pony since she was first seen. I so wish that prototype could surface! (And I don't really collect G3's)

Funny, they also changed their minds about her sister, Pumpkin Tart - she was released with a purple tail although the proto pic shows it in pink and orange.

Oh, and the proto has a bell attached to her ribbon too!

Good catch! I didn't even notice that. I wonder how many other g3s have subtle differences in their stock photos vs official releases?

No I have the clear glitter belle... She's more shimmery silver rather than clear from the tons of silver glitter put into her plastic.
Apparently she was the inspiration behind the genie project. The original art was designed with magenta hair like her.
