Title: Twisty Twirly Hairstyles Brushables
Post by: Wardah on December 15, 2016, 12:00:56 PM
http://www.mlpmerch.com/2016/12/first-images-of-twisty-twirly-hair.html

They remind me a lot of the Crimp and Curl CPK Magic Meadow Ponies.

Yarn haired ponies. why?

C'mon Hasbro.

They do look like those CPK ponies. I'm not a fan but my kids would love these.

Who cares? It's the mane 6 over and over again...

yep.

they have a myriad of opportunities for characters, and this is what they do.

I'm not sure about their faces?
I mean, the wacky yarn hair is certainly a gimmick, and I can agree that kids will probably love it. It's something super new and I don't think any current toy has it, so it could be a draw. I guess it's just that...combined with the faces makes them seem extra weird to me.

But, also, I don't want the bore-6 again, just with this new hair and open...er...mouths. The Rarity one seems sort of unfitting for her? I mean, they could have done like...a couple bore6, but then put 3 new characters or like Cheerilee or something with the yarn too to mix it up. I have no problem with ponies having gimmicks (I do like a good gimmick!) but why is it the same ponies.

Yes, if they had made other characters there might have been a chance I'd get them. But these, probably not.

I really want to see how they look with their mouths painted.

Well to me their mouths at least look better than one one of the Articulated ponies (Fluttershy and RD)

They remind me of CPK pony hair too.  Their hair would "hold" really well when you curled it with your fingers.  :)

Egads, their faces.... *stares then backs away slowly*
I remember why I don't collect G4 now.  Yikes.

I like the hair :)

The faces, on the other hand....I am not a fan. They will probably grow on me and I will probably still get them as I am stupid but they do remind me of something uncomplimentary, I just can't remember what.

This. I think they should have a mane 6 set they keep in stores all the time that's just their show appearance, and then for the other sets with gimmicks they release other characters. But I hate the new style of brushables (are we calling them G4.5??) anyway so I guess it doesn't really affect me. I won't be buying them whoever they are.

I think my kid might like them but even she wants new characters. I wonder if Hasbro will ever maybe listen to that. :/

yeah, I'm not going to buy any of these either. I thought that the Guardians of Harmony ones looked alright because they had molded hair, but these look terrible. I understand that Hasbro is trying to do something new, but they could just keep the old mold and make some new characters. I like the action figure-ness of the GoH, but they don't have to replace the old brushable mold.

They have been pretty good about adding new characters to the regular brushables at least. Even the new mold style regular brushables, which have to include the mane 6 because it's a new mold style, have 2 other characters.

Yet if they released a new character only as a gimmick pony everyone would be complaining that they didn't get a regular brushable.

I think it was pretty genius to use Pinkie and Rarity for these since those two have distinctive hair styles with curly hair. They should have had Cheerilee with a hair crimper instead of AJ tho. Oh well maybe next wave.

I know some kids who want new characters, but for some reason my kids tend to like more of the mane 6. I showed these to my ten year old and she was all "Pinkieee!!"

I agree with Wardah. If they released new characters with this gimmick, most collectors would be complaining about it. Collectors will want a regular release of a new pony.

At this point I meant to say any type of new character would be a blessing. I know they through us a new one now and then but it doesn't seem like it sometimes. People will complain about everything.

They were actually getting really good with variety the past few years, after the dumpster fire of mane 6 rereleases that was Rainbow Power.

But now they seem to have defaulted back to seeing how many ways they can rerelease the mane 6 - we have the singles, the gala dresses, these yam hairs, the chariots, the purses, the new Rarity playset, the rereleased Rarity and Fluttershy playsets, the rereleased Rarity and Fluttershy styling sizes, and the 2-packs including Celestia, Shining and Cadence. That's 9 different ways to release the same 6 ponies over and over again with minimal variation. Of course there are a few other characters thrown in, but these too, so far, have all been rereleases of ponies we've seen MANY releases of before.

We haven't seen all of the reboot line yet (hopefully), so there's still hope for new characters, but tbh I find the new molds and poses so atrocious that I kind of lowkey hope they don't release any new characters after this, so I won't want to buy the ugly things for completion's sake :\

At least the blindbag line is looking awesome. Too much so, in fact - 2 new waves of almost entirely new characters? My poor wallet!

would we rather have sets like these (same characters doing different things) then the awful rainbow power era? with rainbow power there wasn't very many good sets, it was just the various characters with different colors in their mane.

I personally would rather see them in their normal colors doing different things, and at least we have the GoH line which is something completely new.

I wonder if they're using the same "technology" as the old Crimp'n Curls... I can't help but think they're going to be gross, sticky dust-magnets in a year's time. :(

Probably not - Generation numbers are normally changed when there's a major stylistic shift between releases.  While unappealing (to me at least) the new moulds still look like G4.  Compare to some of the variety we got with G1, where everything from a Teeny Tiny, Petite, Bridal Beauty, Secret Surprise, Wingers, Flutters, Sea Ponies, etc. were all the same generation.

True, true! I do like that they're trying with the new poses, and some of them are starting to grow on me. It's mainly the faces that throw me off. Sorry, I'm not trying to be overly negative, G4 is still my favorite gen, haha.

Like I think I've mentioned before, I think painting the mouths in will make a world of difference on the ones with open mouths. Just look at GoH Twilight. The proto with the painted teeth looks tons better than the actual release with unpainted teeth.

I'll reserve judgement until I see these in person. If I'm going to buy any of these new mould ponies it'll probably just be the basic releases tbh.

Though I do like the box art, especially AJ's vector. No hat and braids, cute. ^.^

Since the heads on these look pretty much the same, the mouth being painted in makes a big difference.

It wasn't MLP that had similar hair but another line of ponies that was produced by Hasbro as a tie in to the Cabbage Patch Kids brand called Magic Meadow Ponies. If it's anything like them then the yarn is treated with wax.

Pinkie's hair reminds me of Egan's hair from that old Ghostbusters cartoon.

I don't really mind the action figure setup (or mold, I think that it was a good idea), but there is no reason why they should be replacing the old brushable mold.

I always thought that the mold was fine, I didn't think that it needed to look any more "accurate" to the show. And now that they have tried to make it more show accurate, they are just creepy! I like the GoH, but by trying to take that mold, and then putting rooted hair on it just makes it look creepy, their heads look swollen without the molded hair that covered up some of their head.

I will probably purchase at least one of the GoH sets, but not the new rebooted brushables.

I think just the opposite.  Make the mane 6 be all the gimmicky ponies and just give us plain new characters.
