How do you get identical (symmetrical) symbols/cutie mark on a custom? any "trick"??
Thanks :)
-
I just eyeball it.... not very easy which is why I typically do not like re-creating G1's :)
-
i would normally find a picture of the right and left side and just paint it from there. but then looking at the original picture every once in a while to make sure that it looks similar
-
The person commissionning me wants the exact same one on both sides.

Draw it on thin paper with a charcoal pencil. Flip the paper over and trace the drawing with another pencil on another piece of paper. The charcoal will transfer to the new piece of paper the right side up. Then transfer the charcoal to the pony, using it as a guide :)

Oooh and the paper will not "crease" too much?

Be careful with tracing the symbol. It is very efficient, but the pencil can come thru the paint. I recommend using a pencil the same color as the symbol. And if you have to use white paint, try yellow pencil.

I made it by hand in the end. Result can be seen on my Jack Sparrow custom on the forum.
Thanks everypony!!

I eyeball it. When I go to start the NDS symbol (which I always do second lol), I look at the pony's tail hole and try to set my brush down at a point to indicate the symbols will be at the same height. then look from the top down (looking at the pony's back) to do the side/side of the symbol. keep looking from these as reference as you go
