Title: New Zealand earthquake thread [merged]
Post by: ghouldilocks on November 13, 2016, 10:17:53 AM
I don't know how many of you are round abouts the Christchurch area or down the east coast, but I hope you're all okay and that you're staying safe! When we checked in early this morning with my family, they were all alright, so I hope the worst of it is over for this one!

Thanks! I live 10min outside of Christchurch and have lived through all the previous earthquakes but not many have felt like this. The shaking went on for a good 2 minutes! My office is closed until inspection so I plan on cleaning my ponies after a bit more sleep.

thank you so much for your concern, my family are down south in chch, we (me hubby and the kids) moved away after the first big one. my brother and his kids were evacuated from there shore home in Red cliffs and sent up the hills behind them.
Spoiler
reminds my of the Iron Maiden song

gosh i feel so bad for the people closer to the epicenter, my thoughts go out to all. big hugs guys.
and i feel so bad for the familys who's houses have been looted already  -_- disgusting

hugs to you chch peeps also, we just don't need anymore quakes.

xoxox

ps my concerns now are for Californians and up the coast, iv notice alot of activity, hopefully the super moon doesn't do too much damages to other countrys as its done here  :(

Just head about the earthquake that happened this "morning" (evening for you).  7.8 sounds bad. :yikes: I've heard two people were killed. I'm hoping you and our families are ok.

So glad to hear yous are okay! I read that the damage is mostly infrastructure, but in some of the coastal communities, it seems to me that people would really be quite cut off from things.   :(

We spoke again with my grandad, and another tremor was starting up as we were on the phone. He's not terribly close to the coast as far as New Zealand distance standards go, lol, but it's such a small island, that I can't help but worry regardless. I'm just glad that at least he isn't in a flat on his own anymore, he has a flat in a retirement village, so the administrative staff at least will check in on residents and help with evacuation if necessary.

oh thats really good, where is he located?

yeah they are very cut of poor things, they can't flee your town as i think the main highways both have slips on them and or broken up :(

btw way where are the army? they should be setting up tents/shelter and supply's for them, some people are living in little tents in a heavy storm :(
my heart goes out to them.

anyways  i was talking to my bro in christchurch yesterday also when a heavy and long tremor was going on.

I know - isn't that absolutely disgusting? One girl had her hearing aid equipment taken. I can't believe there are such lowlifes out there who seek to take such selfish and corrupt advantage in a situation like this.

The aftershocks are ongoing and food/aid is struggling to get through.

My grandad is in Christchurch as well; he has a flat in a retirement village, so we're glad the staff are always nearby to check on him if we can't reach him.

now Japan has a huge earthquake, thats the 2nd time thats happened after us (nz), they must share the same fault line as us.

If anyone sees any horsemen, we're all going to live with the penguins.

I really wish Mother Nature would just stay quiet for a while. I'm sick of these things, we've had too many and I hate the sinking feeling I get when a big one happens. The city is STILL recovering after our 2011 quake and it's nearly 6 years on.

That's a shame! I'm sure it's really scary, but just keep in mind that everywhere has its own big natural disaster that's typical for their region - for us, it's tornadoes, and those can be every bit as devastating as an earthquake, just in different ways. California and the PNW have wildfires and mudslides; the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee recently had a really horrible wildfire, and flash flooding can occur pretty much anywhere.
