Title: Keep Giving My Husband His Childhood
Post by: Koudoawaia on October 14, 2016, 09:45:52 AM
This year I keep giving my husband pieces of his childhood. For his birthday, I got him the entire original Transformers series. For our anniversary, I got him the entire original G.I. Joe series and for Christmas I just ordered him the original Sky Lynx from Transformers toy because he said he really wanted him as a kid and never had him.

That's really cool. I've been collecting shows and toys I loved as a kid for several years now and it's one of my favorite hobbies. :) There is something magical about either regaining a beloved toy or having the power / money to get one you really wanted but for whatever reason never got as a kid.

Yeah he's been loving all of it^^ Something weird about the Transformers dvds though. Part of the special features are showing the original commericials and for some reason they blurred the kids' faces out which makes no sense cuz all of those kids are adults now anyway. =p

Oh I agree. I think the next one we should get is the original Ninja Turtles^^ Wanted to get him The Real Ghostbusters series for Christmas at first but first it was $120. Now it's over $300. Geez.

They probably don't have contact info for those kid actors anymore. In the 80's we didn't keep meticulous records, sometimes. ;) Even if they are grown up now, you can't show people's faces in media without written permission.

OMG!!!!! That is super sweet!!! I do things like that too, and my husband does the same for me! It warms my husbands heart to see him hold a toy he once had as a kid and tear up followed by the giantest hugs ever! Presents like that really are the best gifts and super meaningful! Nothing is better than holding a childhood toy again or finally obtaining a childhood grail item!

The best gift i got Cole was a base set Charizard in Japanese, he used to have one as a kid and left it outside during a thunderstorm when he was a kid so I got him another one years ago and he was super delighted! He keeps dropping hints about him wanting to collect more lf the older Zoids figures (he has a pretty neat collection of those!) and I have to hunt down a special type of liger model kit by his birthday!  :P

He also got me a pretty epic present, so as a kid my first stepdad decided pokemon was poisoning my brain.  I literally came home from the boys and girls club one summer to find my pokemon card/ toy collection gone and I was devestated for like even a decade after. My favorite of which was a pokemon 2000 roaring lugia, a HTF item even back then. Back in 2011 Cole helped me find one and got it for me! Its my favorite thing ever!!!! He is also helping me collect pokedolls now, he tracked an authentic rare Ho Oh pokedoll at a crazy price I saw when we first met, I saw it back at WDW in the epcot pavillion back when HGSS came out ( like two years into usdatinbg!) and never got it. I have our chibi ho oh on the way thanks to him!!!! So slowly we are making some "toy collectors bucket list" of grails dreams come true!

Ahh but enough about us though, but I am trying to get to the point I totally relate to how excited you feel and helping your husbands dreams come true is absolutely amazing and super awesome of you! The old transformers are super cool too, i love the diecast metal ones!!!!

Yep^^ Lol, recently I went through adding old 90s Disney cartoons to my Amazon wish list inspired by all this.

Princess Lala: That's so nice that you and your husband have replaced things you lost in your childhood for each other^^

Yes I have been doing this for my husband R2 for years.  He gets toys toys toys.  It is great fun for him.  We are both addicted to toys its hopeless. I feel sorry for whoever has to clean out our house after we are gone.  Just our luck they will be minimalists with no concept of nostalgia.

You doing that with your brother reminds me of that episode when Cadence and Shining Armor came to visit and Twilight put all kinds of things he loved as a colt in the room they'd be staying in^^

Yeah :) My SO loves Lego and I initially thought 'Aw that's cute! Most guys don't like toys!' - but I guess it's more common than I thought LOL.  :P

Yes there are a lot of adult men into Lego.

My hubby buys ponies for me and I buy Lego/RC/1:16 for him.  The Local TRU calls us their "regulars" and know him by name.
