Hi,
my son just saw a G1 Baby green hair minty pony on ebay with a buy it now price of $1781
[Removing live auction number]
is this for real? I got me thinking, what is the most expensive G1 pony you have seen for sale/sold?
thanks :)
-
Possibly that MIP Rapunzel a few years ago.
-
Greek Baby Bluebell they wanted $3,000 for her. Yikes!
-
The most expensive one I ever saw was Re Unicorno for around £200, but that position has just just been usurped! I had a little look on ebay out of curiosity and the most expensive one that came up was MIB Glittering Gem for £400. :ack:
-
I've seen the South African ponies go for 3000 to 5000, which I think is just ludicrous
-
Takara Kurukuru just sold for $5000+ MIB
-
The most expensive pony I've seen in person (and touched!) was a prototype Cocoberry! She was going for 1250.
-
I think either SA ponies or a Reverse Gusty are the most expensive ones I have seen.
-
Possibly that MIP Rapunzel a few years ago.
That's the one I remember best.
-
We had a few SA ponies on ebay here a while back, they went pretty darned high!
-
Greek Ladybird pony with her egg went for quite a LOT a few years ago.
Edit: around $4000 or $5000....depending on which auction.
-
wow, some very high prices there - we had no idea!
I just bought on ebay what looks to be a lovely Cha-Cha Llama for my son - he is going to love it!
-
Wasn't there a Sundance on eBay listed at like 7k? I remember dying over a reallllllllllly expensive Sundance and people were messaging the seller and the seller was like "it's worth it! It's vintage!"
-
There was a one of a kind Peru pony on eBay a few weeks ago. It sold for $5,650.

This seems familiar to me too.. I feel like I remember hearing something about that too!

c'mon at least do a little research lol
-
I saw an MOC Milky Way for 1000 euros once.

 Ha ha! I love it.

Not sure how much it sold for but I recall an Italian Firefly variant in Posey pose earlier this year which went for quite a sum. Yep seen South African's for $5,000-$7,000.
-
South African pony for I think $3500?
-
Was it spain milkyway? She is worth about that :)
I have seen a few ponies sells for $2000 plus. Most are greeks, south africans and takaras. Some vennie ooaks have sold for a couple of grand also, actually ooaks in general seem to push over 1 k in general

And I thought a 400€ Mimic was out of range for me... knowing some people would pay 3000€ a pony is really amazing.
-
Takara Kurukuru just sold for $5000+ MIB
Ooh, where? I didn't see her!

Do you happen to remember what she looked like? :o I've never heard of a prototype Coco Berry before.
Personally, I think the Peruvian Windtie that KC8114 mentioned wins. Before that, I remember a South African Applejack who went for about $3050.
-
I remember seeing one G1 that was about $1200 that was some kind of prototype at Bronycon of all places.
-
i heard somewhere on here of somebody talking about how they had just spend 8000$ on a south african bubbles. 8 grand is a whole lot!

Yep, Peruvian Ribbon w/ a purple body and rainbow hair. It looks like there was quite the bidding war over her.

Also, a Greek Windy with no tail went for $3,150.00 recently.
-
There's a greek baby Glory going around here whose price goes from 1500 to 2000$

Oh wow, a Greek Windy in the walking pose! I hope her new owner gives her a replacement tail and posts more pictures of her, she looks quite lovely even in rather battered condition,
-
^ yes I saw that one! amazing, she must have been OOAK, I looked her up online and couldn't find a thing :)

This whole thread makes me seriously glad I'm not a proper Nirvana collector. I mean, if someone has the money and it makes them happy, all power to them, but wow, who would've thought when we were kids and these were in stores that any of them would EVER be the price of a cheap car...
-
i wish i had 5 grand to spend on some nirvanas. who would you instantly buy if you had the money?? i would totally buy Peru unicorn bowtie and then all the mountain boys.

you are so right, the funny thing about that is that for the SA nirvana, there was a time when those ponies were sold on stores, the price of common toys and now they are just unaffordable toys...

My Nirvana involves UK packaging, so MIB Mountain Boys from my childhood. Without hesitation, all the ponies I'm still missing MIP from my childhood. Not so much the variants.
The only more expensive pony I care about getting eventually is Baby Sugarcake who keeps eluding me and has for 17 years. But I could never countenance spending thousands on a pony, even if I won the lottery.
Though I've often thought that if I had a ton of money I'd love to buy up all these rare expensive ponies and then secret santa them out to the people who really want them but can't afford them. Collecting is a monetised business and whoever can pay the most wins, but sometimes I think people have reasons for wanting a pony that surpasses price, and it would be nice to level the playing field somehow.
It will never happen, though, since I'm a broke student at present and no sign of millions just yet ;)

true facts! my poor bank account doesn't like it when im out collecting ; )

I showed my sister the peruvian Bow tie/Windy cross, and her comment was, "she doesn't even look that wonky!"
Apparently in my sister's world, expensive ponies ought to look wonky.
-
Some of the really rare nirvanas can go for upto $10,000.
$4000-6000 is the ceiling price for many super rare ponies including OOAKs, prototypes, Takaras, Venezuelans and South Africans to name a few.
Love pkw xxx

I've seen online listings for so many expensive ponies. One that sticks out, even though wasn't the most expensive, was the Greek Ladybird MIP in the Egg. Anyone remember how much that sold for about?
