Title: Best offer higher than buy it now?
Post by: giggles on July 26, 2016, 09:00:12 AM
Asking for a friend who doesn't do message boards.  She has an item up on ebay and has it listed with a buy it now of $400, and she has received two best offers from the same bidder of $450.  First, has anyone experienced this, how is it even possible?

Then, secondly, while the offer is higher than the buy it now, she's obviously concerned about a glitch and whether to accept it or not, especially since the bidder is brand new as of 7/18 and with zero feedback in Sweden :(

Thoughts?

Since the buyer is new to eBay, my guess is they don't know how best offer works which is why they offered more. Since best offer is a contract, if I was your friend I would accept since the buyer is willing to pay that amount.

I have received Best Offers higher than the starting price, but usually the buyer will ask for extra terms such as free shipping (or shipping included for that total) or they make an offer on 1 listing but actually request to purchase items from another listing included in that offer price (this is super frustrating, imo).

I would suggest your friend message the buyer to be sure they don't have any special terms they want included in that price before she accepts. While eBay gives a place to type in additional terms, it's possible the buyer has something in mind but didn't type it out for some reason.

I think the newbie bidder thinks $400 is the current high bid.

I think your friend needs to message the buyer ...
it could be that they would like free shipping included so they are offering more, or that they got confused and think its an auction.
She could just accept the offer if she wants to.
If your friend sells the item to this new buyer she should definitely send it with tracking and delivery confirmation- I think she probably knows that already though  :) :awake:

these were my thoughts exactly. probably the buyer doesn't realise the item your friend has up isn't listed in an auction format.

besides this, if I were your friend I'd also message the potential buyer before proceeding, just to clarify things before anything goes firm. I hope all goes well! ^^
