Title: Commissioning a non-pony watercolor
Post by: Tak on June 21, 2016, 10:10:12 AM
I wasn't sure what forum for this. I'm wanting to commission a watercolor portrait. 8x10 I could send a picture to work off of. I'm hoping for Christmas or next April. That gives plenty of time.

I'm going to move this over to the A&C Corral since it is art related. The A&C forum is for all art, including non-pony.

What style and subject are you looking for? Human, animal?  Photorealistic or semi-realistic?

Thanks kiwi :)

I'm looking for pretty realistic. I know watercolor doesn't really have defined lines usually, but I want a portrait. Just my daughter's face from the shoulders up. I have a relative who did an oil painting portrait when she was four. It's framed and I just think it's an awesome piece of art for her to have in the future. My relative is a professional.

I'm not expecting quite as detailed and would provide several current pictures to work off of. As stated earlier I have plenty of time to work with. I know for art to come out right there has to be some drive or desire to do the project. I'm looking for 8x10 ideally since that's the size of the oil painting.

Oh!  I remember you from my art thread where I mentioned my service dog fundraiser.  I think you mentioned a portrait then as well. I can upload some more realistic sketches I have a bit later.  But in the mean time here's some watercolors

And some people (not quite realistic, but I'm better at likenesses than photorealism)

Gothicsugar, I love the look and style of celestia.

Ponyqueen, I like the foxes.

I do like more than that I'm just trying to keep the project in mind.

Thanks! Also, I didn't realize you wanted a portrait of a human... I've never done one of those before!

Thank you (It's Luna as Nightmare Moon).   And I understand.  These are just some samples of watercolor and people pieces that I have online at the moment to give you an idea of what I can do which is why they're what I've shown.  I'll have to wait till morning when the light's a bit better to take pictures of sketches I've done of actual people as likenesses rather than something stylized like what I've posted.

Gothicsugar, I look forward to seeing your work. :) I wish my artistic talent wasn't physical.

Ponyqueen, if you don't think you're up to a real person, I'm thinking of getting a painting of my service dog. He has a fox face. I'm not ready to start that yet. I can only afford one at a time.

Physical?  Do you dance?

And here are some of the pictures I've done.  Like I mentioned they're sketches but I can do them in another medium.  I tend to them this way just to keep up my ability to draw them since I mostly do ponies and other more styalized things at the moment.

Yes dance. For 17 years. Pro. And, no not the exotic kind. I'm pure ballet. Zumba is pretty fun, too.

I love the jem portrait. It has that soft look I'm wanting for the portrait, too.

Ballet is one of those things that always makes me go  :enthralled:.  That's really neat.

And thank you.  If you decide that you want one from me, then let me know.  My prices are quite reasonable.    The size you mentioned would be $35 before shipping.

Hi Tak!  Good to see you are making progress on finding someone to do your portrait(s) for you.

I just want to say:  if I were receiving a portrait of myself from my mom in the future, I would want it to be of me and my mom together.

Especially if my mom was a pony....but even if she was just my mom.  Definitely.

I'm not the biggest fan of my looks. Only males seem to like them, and lesbians. I wouldn't want to ruin a picture with my face. The paintings are somewhat for me. To see how much my baby has grown, but she'll have them to pass down to her kids. The oil painting was done by a rather sought after artist, so will likely be worth money, too. I'll try a few pictures with me just in case.

I generally work in mixed media, but I do some watercolors. :)

I haven't had many chances lately to play with watercolor pieces as I was finishing up a big commission, but here are a few pieces that are mostly watercolor with a touch of colored pencil. :D

And here are a couple, fairly recent portraits I've done. Though, the first one is in pastels, and the last one is copics and some colored pencil. :)
