Title: [insert witty title about phones here]
Post by: SourdoughStomper on April 26, 2016, 03:21:23 PM
I have an "old fashioned" flip cell phone. Not a smart phone. It can go online, but it's a painful and slow process, so I don't bother. I use it mostly for sending and receiving texts, and even then, I only get a couple per week. (Most of which are automatic notifications). It rarely rings and I rarely call anyone.

So I guess I don't use my cell phone all that much.  ^.^

However, I do have a tablet that I use for web browsing and video watching. If I had a smart phone, I'd probably be using it for those things, and I'd probably use the apps like crazy.

What's about you?  :) :phone:

I have an iPhone and I'm way too addicted to it... I use it for Facebook a lot and I play games on it, as well as texting... I guess I'm one of those people everyone says is awful for looking at my phone too much.  I do know how to put it away at dinner and movies and social settings though.  :P

My phone is quite old by current standards. It has a touch screen but it's definitely not smart. This is the best kind of phone in this area of London, where people are known to snatch smartphones out of people's hands...so yeah. But it's not the most up to date thing and it gave up with the internet 3 years ago.

I hate phones though. So as long as it texts and calls if I need it to, I'm fine. I don't need to be glued to it. Not that it's an issue if other people want to do that, but it does annoy me when they have them out in the theatre or cinema to go on facebook.

I use my phone for like...everything. I use it to listen to music in the car via the AUX cord (I pay for Spotify monthly), I use it to browse the web (I'm in between laptops right now), and well...pretty much everything else.

I also play games on it, mostly to keep busy during downtime at work.

I make calls and text on it, of course. I actually make more calls than you might think, but I honestly so prefer talking over texting. We also don't have a landline because that's kinda pointless anymore (especially considering I'm hardly at hone anyway), so having a cell phone is pretty necessary for me.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 that I've had for nearly two years now, so naturally it's already considered "old" because the S7 came out. I'm thinking I'll upgrade soon and let my husband have this phone. For the past several years, that's how its been. He refuses to upgrade, but it annoys me because he wants to be able to do all these things with his phone, so he ends up getting my old one when I upgrade.

Much like buttonso, I know how to put my phone down when I need to. I'm not really one of those people that's glued to their phone in social settings.

Ooh that's a tough one.. I think social media beats out Texting by just a little though, only a little mind you

I avoid phone calls because the anxiety they give me (I never really get any anyway). I don't play too many games (Gameloft MLP, Picross, Godzilla smash, Moominvalley, and Puzzles & Dragons) and I don't play them enough to be addicted, not often music or videos because im in front of a computer all day for that, I text my boyfriend 24/7 but thats mainly it (not a big talker), I use it to check social media outside of home and I only browse the web if I'm not at my computer.

Mine tends to be a social crutch. I try to avoid using it when I'm with a lot of people but if I'm on my phone I'm likely looking something up, finding a funny photo to share, or it's because I'm really uncomfortable with the situation.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and I originally got it to use it's pen/tablet-like functionality. I have a few art apps on it, but I've gone back to using my old Intuos for drawing. Using the pen is very nice though.

I use it for a lot of stuff - I used to have a Droid, and on it I had the Gameloft MLP game. Got super into it, but when I switched phones, I lost all of my progress, got bummed,  and just have not felt like restarting. lol
I do use it for social media, I have a few game apps but don't use them a lot. I tried to use Tapatalk the other day just for this forum and it won't even load posts or notifications. Sometimes it says "forum administrator has disabled use for this app" or something, so I've just given up on it.  :( I really liked using it on my other phone though.

Social media (which is mostly a distraction for break at work/when I'm bored) , weather, and web browsing. I use it a lot for video watching/movies. Since I don't have a tablet, I basically use it for that when I can't get to my laptop (which is huge) , and texting and calling. It's how I stay in contact with family out of state and husband who leaves for weeks sometimes. I really enjoy my phone, but not the bill. xP

Not addicted to it, and I only use it in social meetings if I'm bored/want to look preoccupied.

I use mine for the Internet, texting and taking pictures. Oh and also for work! I much prefer texting to talking. I also much prefer texting to people sending me social media messages- I'm not sure why, but that annoys me- just text me!

The main use my phone has is take pictures and edit them  I have a Note 3 because I wanted a good Camera

So I chose web and other apps ;) I also use Instagram on the phone, but the pics are more important.

I have a Droid and I get the newest one every time I am up to renew. I use it mainly to browse the net and keep track of my eBay auctions. I text a lot, too, but not as much as I used to.

I haven't had a phone for 3 or 4 years. Before that I just used my phone for texting and taking dumb pictures of my dogs, haha. I do use my boyfriend's tablet sort of like a phone, for web browsing and game apps. I use it to talk to people a little bit but not much.

I should finally be getting a new phone soon, my boyfriend's old iPhone. I'll mostly use it for texting/calling and business stuff (Etsy, Instagram, Pinterest). And probably snapchatting dumb photos of stuff to my friends xD

I have no cell phone right now. I washed it with my pants. Go me. I didn't have and don't want a smart phone. The only purpose for my cell is texting, a way for my daughter to get a hold of me if I'm not home, and long distance. I live right by the border and the next state over is long distance.

I have an iPhone 5S (hoping for an upgrade soonish.). I mainly use it for surfing the web/social media and texting though, at home, I'm more often on my iPad or laptop.  :)

While I didn't *need* the phone when I got it, it's been very useful at work (I don't often have access to a computer) and for meeting up with friends.  So, I'm rather attached to it now.  :)

All of the above but playing games.
I got my iPhone 6s Plus last November, it's my first smartphone of any kind, and I totally love it! It's so handy to have a map with you at all times, or a dictionary. And the camera is pretty great as well!

I'm still rocking the Ericsson W200i I got way back in 2008 - it's such a groovy little phone! :D I did have a smartphone briefly but hated the very existence of it after about 2 days and returned it soon after. My phone gets a lot more mileage for taking pictures of strange/amusing things I see while out and about than it does for calls and texts; I prefer to talk to people face-to-face whenever possible.

I have a smartphone, a Galaxy S5, but the only interneting I do with it is Instagram, checking my workschedule and do my banking. I think it's too small for any surfing. I do have some games but rarely play. I listen to music but only on my way home from work which is like 20 minutes a day three times a week. I hate to call and prefer to text so that's what I checked, I rarely do that either to be honest ^.^ I usually have it for people to reach me, not the other way around. I mostly use it for the calendar but that was not an option. I'm so not a phony person, mostly my phone just lay around and my boyfriend has to call it in order for me to find it when I need it XD.

I chose "texting". Most of the texts I send and receive are work-related (members of my team texting me when they're going to be late for their shift etc), but I've got unlimited texts anyway, so I don't mind.

I also use my phone for browsing the internet, mostly when I'm at my friend's place and haven't got my laptop with me, and for reading ebooks.

of the options I use mine for social media.  But actually, it's kind of just my camera mostly.  I have it in case of needing to call someone.  I use my tablet for apps and social media.  My phone is a crappy but easy to carry camera.

I couldn't check a box cos there isn't one that fits really   :yikes:
I am electrosensitive   (EHS. Yes its real. inconvenient , no fun and a real PITA *siiiigh* ) so I cannot use a cell phone of any kind (that goes for all things Wireless BTW not just cell phones in my case)  for talking or anything other than the occasional text without becoming extremely ill. Smartphones are a huuuge no no for me.  I have my old  sony erisson something or other ordinary phone from 2008 before I knew what I was reacting to and I keep it for the occasional text or emergency situation but its always turned off otherwise.   Sooo I cant say I haven't got a phone, but I don't use it either unless its a real emergency and even then its short texts or someone else has to borrow it  :awake:
Of course I'm not anti-internet . I love the internet  and I use my wired laptop for all the other stuff  (games, social media, uploading my pics, web browsing, watching videos, music etc )  and a landline for calls  :)  :lovey:

For years I used my phone primarily for internet and music. Texting some, calling a tiny bit. I don't have much of a social life, so... >.< However, recently the data has gotten worse and I've had to cut back on my checking of the internet, and my workplace banned having earbuds on so I can't listen to my music anymore.

With limited data I started playing a few mobile games. An "HD" remake of the first three Phoenix Wright games and Kingdom Hearts Unchained. I've enjoyed them both quite a bit. I actually beat the Phoenix Wright games and am using KH to keep me occupied on breaks now. lol

Mobile games suck up soooo much battery, though. I do not like that. And generally I do not like mobile games at all. Most genres do not transfer to mobile at all. Only a select few can.

Mostly web searching or texting my sister. I cant call outside of China - only within china and the only people I know are my 9 co-workers..so yeah. I am in the countryside and not a big city like Shanghai
What shocked me is how well connected everything is here. You can easily order dinner and pay using your phone in less then 30 seconds. You can also pay bills (I only do it for my phone) - its a pay as you go deal but all I do is log into an app called we chat (their version of facebook) and click on top off Mobil, enter my code and minutes added instantly. You want to add a new friend to wechat - just scan their little bar code thing.

Well the only reason I have *any* mobile phone at all is because my mum just gave me her old ones when she was done with them, lol.. otherwise I probably wouldn't have one ^^; I have an old flip phone and a comparitively newer smart phone. The flip phone still pretty much works, but the smart phone's cheaper to pay for so. -shrug-

I use it for internet browsing (usually just when I'm bored, or for looking stuff up quickly) and sometimes listening to music and that's about it.. not much of a texter here, I only use it for that to talk to my mum when one of us is out XD or to text stuff to my other phone (reminders, etc - the flip phone beeps like every 10 mins if it has an unread message, so I find it useful if I need to remember something). Otherwise I don't use it that much, I prefer computers.

I use mine for texting, playing apps/games and making calls although I don't call people that often. I run my battery down a lot playing with the apps/games. I only got a smartphone for the first time last summer and I love it.  I do also use it to check Facebook and browse the Internet some.

I use my phone a lot - generally people my age don't really text too much anymore, when you can use the direct messages on instagram or free texting apps. I'm not on pay-as-you-go, but a lot of my friends are, so messaging them through apps is a lot easier. I don't call people if I can avoid it, and I'm not too fond of texting either. Generally I use social media - having a smartphone makes it a lot easier to do stuff like that.

Mine is old-fashioned so I basically only use it for texting and calling (I prefer texting though), as well as keeping track of time (I was never a wrist watch person). Plus the alarm feature of course. It has some sort of internet access thing which I've never used and a crappy camera that takes tiny photos. I've been thinking of upgrading soon, it's getting old - obviously - and the keys are startiing to fall off and whatnot, but I hate the idea of all the research I need to do because I know nothing about smart phones and their features. Ugh. I do want a smart phone though because having an internet access on the go would be super handy (+ maps, GPS etc.) but I don't think I really need one. At least my current phone has the benefit of long battery life compared to smart phones, I can go days, even a week without recharging if I don't do phone calls.

I got a smartphone for Christmas and love it.  I wanted one so I could take and receive photos (especially receive pics of my 2 year old niece! so much joy in those pixels!  :) )  I mostly use it for calls and texts.  I'm too paranoid to do banking on my phone, most of my internet use is on my laptop.  Prior to the smartphone I had an old one that lasted for 9 years and was still working.

Hah, I have a smartphone, but I primarily use it as a PHONE -- for making calls and texting! Yes, I do use it to shop online and stuff, but I don't walk around looking at my phone and running into people on the sidewalk because I'm not paying attention. And don't even get me started on phone games. Games are meant to be played on consoles or computers -- not phones. *waves cane and yells at kids to get off my lawn*

I mainly use mine for checking facebook, which I also use the messenger app a lot of the time. I don't get great cell phone reception at my apartment, so it's nice being able to use wifi to get messages out, so my gf and I mainly "text" each other on the fb messenger app. I also use it for instagram a lot, and I pretty much only check my email on my phone. :) I also do a fair bit of texting, and call my mom a few times a week lol

I'm not sure whether Tumblr counts as social media or other web browsing. But mostly Tumblr!

But also for tracking bus times and for maps.  There's a citywide app that tracks the buses in real-time, which is great because their times don't match the printed schedules.   I have a terrible sense of direction, but between Google Maps and the bus app, my smartphone has made me more confident about going to new places.

Mostly text, as I have unlimited to certain numbers, but refuse to pay for data, so only go online if I'm using Wifi. I have wifi access at home and work, and most of the local shopping centres, so pretty connected unless I'm on the move. I do use my phone for internet if I'm comfy and want to look something up, like something I saw on tv, or something I just thought of, but the computer is turned off. I do have a few games, but I'm pretty fussy about phone games, I have several gaming platforms on the go, so I'm picky about what I get for what. I use it for music a lot, I have pandora on my phone, which is fun. I love the notes app on my temporary phone, the Note 3. If it were waterproof, I'd prefer it to my broken S5. I love the waterproofing! I've accidentally wet my note about 4 times... close calls! I use social media too - on my breaks at work mostly, and one of my work colleagues is too difficult to get any other way, so I use it to contact him if I need to when one of us is not at work. I don't read books on it, I can't read on back-lit devices, it just kills my eyes. I have an old black and white kindle for ebooks on the go, but I prefer real books at home.

I'm old school.  I have a plain old tracfone. I just got a 3gig in the mail, because that's how the new tracfone's are now.  Slightly upgraded from my old phone, I call, text, I can download a few different rings tones (but very few I actually like), and something new is I can take videos (but not pictures) and I can insert voice recordings I say into text messages.  Honestly, I don't know what I would do with a smart phone or an iphone. I don't use my phone except to call and text, but only when I need to.
