Title: Was David the Gnome series released on DVD in the US
Post by: Ponyfan on April 14, 2016, 04:47:59 AM
Hi,

Does anyone know if the David the Gnome series was released in the US? I saw there was a copy on Amazon but one of the reviews said it wouldn't play in US players. I just found out how the series ended last night.

Not that I'm aware of but I was just thinking about this series the other day.

Not to my knowledge. You may be able to check amazon

Here you go:

http://www.amazon.com/David-Gnome-4-Disc-Set-Bosley/dp/B008IELRUM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1460657249&sr=8-1&keywords=david+the+gnome

I think there are quality issues since these were originally released in VHS and had to be transferred to DVD-  but that is true for all the old cartoons I think.

Sounds like sometimes some people get a bad disk- if that happens, you can just get a replacement.

Ooooh! Thanks for posting! I need to order one too! Wish I could also find Disney channels the many (merry?) adventures of Winnie the Pooh! I loved that show too and that darn theme always gets stuck in my head!

I've had that DVD set in my Amazon shopping cart for a while but haven't gotten around to buying it yet...

I'm in Missouri, bought the series hmm... a year and a half ago? Maybe two? I haven't watched it in full, but did use it for a brief pick-me-up one day and it played just fine in either my Xbox 360 or XboxOne (can't remember which system). I know they're not quite the same as a DVD player, but at least the first disc was able to be played here in the States :)

I got my copy today. :) I decided to check all of the DVDs to make sure that they played. I was really disappointed when the first episode "Good Medicine" skipped and got stuck constantly while trying to watch it, but I put it in another DVD player and it played fine. :) I'd forgotten how much I liked this series and am looking forward to watching it.

I had no idea how it ended until very recently. It was a little bit of shock to find out how it ended.

I have very vague memories of this show. If its the show I'm thinking of I used to watch it after kindergarten (We only went for half-days). David had a red hat right? And his wife wore a blue dress?

I also have vague memories of some of the other shows in the Nick Jr. lineup although I can't remember most of the titles, other than The Elephant's Web (if I even have that right). There was a cartoon about a girl with two stuffed koalas that came to life when she rubbed their noses or something. And there was another cartoon about a bunch of anthropomorphized animal kids, which I think also included a koala. I have no idea what those cartoons were called.

I remember some of those other shows also. I think the one with the girl and the stuffed koalas was Noozles and the other one was the Adventures of Little Koala.   :)

Yep, you got it. I looked them up on Wikipedia after posting. Hard to believe those cartoons were on Nick Jr. more than a quarter of a century ago.

More than a quarter of a century ago? Man, I do feel old. I don't remember how the show ended. :/ I'm planning to get the DVDs... guess I have more incentive (maybe?) to get them now.

It makes me feel old too. I was surprised that I remember some parts of the episode with The Baby Troll after all these years.

I just finished watching the final episode on Youtube. Wow that was powerful and depressing, especially for a kids' cartoon in a television block aimed at preschoolers.

Seriously, guys, you're scaring me. But I still want to get the show and watch it from beginning to end! Ugggh I think I'm going to go buy the DVD right now and watch it before someone spoils something!

But really, am I going to have nightmares?

Edit: Amazon Prime can be a wonderful and horrible thing. I will have the DVDs on Saturday for a weekend marathon.

I agree. It shouldn't give you nightmares.   I've avoided giving too many details about the ending so I won't spoil it for anyone that hasn't seen it.  :)

I don't know... I can get nightmares from the weirdest things. Last night I dreamed that I was in some sort of war, and I found Bernard from The Rescuers, but he ran over into the enemy's territory so I asked Dumbledore to go rescue him and, of course, Dumbledore died. :(

How about the Lil Bits and Maya the Bee?

Of course all the funny, wacky sitcoms too. I made my daughter sit down to Welcome Freshmen, Salute Your Shorts, Adventures of Pete and Pete and All That! She loves them.

She's yet to see Clarissa Explains It All or Doug.

She likes the crazy game shows too like Wild n Crazy Kids, You can't Do that on television, Double Dare and Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Anyone watch Hey Dude? I found the complete series on DVD for $20 a while back.

A bunch of the series is on Youtube too! Last time I looked for it on DVD I couldn't find it either. Good to know it's available now! I love how the old cartoons treated kids with respect for their intelligence. The modern day ones are almost insulting in comparison. I think it was the very first episode of David The Gnome where he's explaining acupuncture and wildlife issues! So awesome!!

No, you won't have nightmares. I bawled through the entire episode though. Rare that a cartoon series has an ending episode.

I just watched the final episode all the way through and ended up crying even though I never cry during sad movies or TV shows. It's very sad. I was wondering if the episode before this about David and the boy he invited in to the gnome world are supposed to go together since
Spoiler
David gave the old doctor the watch he loved so much as a boy and insisted he keep it

I remember watching this when I was little. Never knew it had an ending episode. I just watched it and it was sad :(. Back in those days, cartoons had good story lines, character development and an ending. Very few shows have that nowadays. I miss all the old Nick Jr. shows.
