Title: Are you bestest best friends with your mailman?
Post by: SourdoughStomper on April 13, 2016, 12:42:46 PM
:mail: :mail:

Back when the Canadian dollar was a bit stronger, and we had a bit more disposable income, I'd probably order something online monthly or every couple of months. Even though I'm in Canada, I'd shop at Amazon America quite a bit. Larger selection of goodies. :)

Now I pretty much stay away from Amazon except for e-books. ^^;

How's about you? Do you get packages regularly? Especially, dare I say it, pony packages? :newpony:

I'd say right now, maybe once a month.  But when I'm back on my feet again financially, I'd like to be getting a couple packages a week. Gotta treat myself to them ponies, ya know.

My husband and I tend to order things online pretty often. Especially from Amazon- he has an Amazon credit card, so yeah...those perks!

I order a lot of clothes online because as a taller girl who is curvier than most, it's hard for me to shop in a store for, say, jeans that are long enough for my legs, or shirts that aren't too short on my torso. So I have a few online stores that I get my clothes from. That's honestly where the bulk of my packages come from.

Every once in a while I'll treat myself to a collectible or two. Not so much ponies anymore, I buy those in stores since I'm mostly a G4 collector.

Anywho, I think we get packages maybe once or twice a week. I feel so bad, because we put a hold on our mail for next week since we'll be away in Portland, and although I tried to order things to be delivered this week, it seems like some things won't be in until next week. Our poor mailman is going to have so many things to put on our porch and in our mailbox when we get back.

My husband is always ordering parts for his motorcycle or truck so we have packages coming in nearly every day.

I have a steady stream of packages coming in-  and a slightly smaller stream going out (if I can manage it)
Usually craft supplies from etsy, or random dolls from ebay or elsewhere, and occasionally a package from the DisneyStore or ToysrUs, oh and from various hobby shops in Japan...

But it is all through my office mail- I don't want my wife to see how much stuff I buy, hehe

For the most part, I prefer to get things from shops because it's less bother than waiting for something to turn up in the post, but the shops in my town are pants, so I usually end up having to get art materials, books and the like online anyway. Still, art stuff lasts me ages and I'm picky beyond belief with books, so parcels tend to be pretty rare unless I find something that is so fabulous that I simply have to have it! The most recent such find was a t-shirt for one of my favourite bands that has a glow-in-the-dark haunted house on it! :D

About once or twice  month. Sometimes more if its bday/holidays. Pony packages can be once or twice a month. Depends on how good she's been, how good I've been and how much they cost. Like under ten and I may get more. 10+ and its only one.

My husband is buying/selling things on eBay a lot so packages come and go often! For me personally, I get a pony every so often but nothing frequent or regular

I don't have a paypal to buy things on my own (trust me, I'd be getting tons of packages if I did) but my mother shops on Amazon frequently so we don't exactly get one once a week but we do get at least a few boxes a month.

Normally it's weekly, but we're saving like crazy right now, so it's more monthly atm... but I selected weekly, because that's the norm for us. Not always pony, often it's other gadgets, other collections, random things I like... but mostly pony. Right now most packages are travel related, spare cables for phones, etc, adapters, Travel sims, that sort of thing...

I shop online somewhat. No transportation means I'm stuck at home most of the time. I've been in the same house for 3 years and our mail lady was just awesome. I baked her cookies every Christmas. In the last month we've had two temporary and now our new permanent one. The temps made a couple mistakes and were a little later, but ok. Our new guy just plain sucks. Our previous lady was forced out due to health. This new guy is young, rude, and really doesn't want to do his job. I'm not that old, but my mother always taught me to treat others the way you want to be treated. If that's what he's doing, then he wants my neighbors to pull a gun on him. He refuses to deliver regular mail if he has to back up at all to get to my box, won't deliver packages to the door in the rain (it rains 300 days a year here), and worst of all, he spit on the ground towards my neighbors.

Few times a week on good time frames.. I collect, buy, sell and trade 80s toys. I enjoy it as a hobby.. don't have an online store or anything like that. :)

I prefer to support local shops so they don't have to close down so I'm not a regular online buyer. It's a pony or a book I can't get anywhere else really.. I think last package I recieved was two months ago?

I tend to order things in batches, so I'll get like 4 or 5 packages one week and it's so fun. Then nothing for a while. It's weird because I don't do it on purpose, I just happen to need/want a handful of stuff at the same time.
As for actually being chummy with the mailman (I thought that's what this was going to be about lol), I gotta say NO WAY. Mail service in big cities + apartments is a nightmare. They are always grouchy and do not care one bit about people or their mail. It was a huge change from when I used to live in a house in a smaller town and my family would actually leave little gifts for the mailman on holidays.

I order my cat food & litter online monthly. It saves me dragging and its way cheaper than the stores charge. Pony packages not mucht atm. For other stuff I'd rather go into the stores to see it in real life. Especially clothes.

Im taking FULL advantage of Taobao while I am here..Everything is Super cheap compared to the USA and shipping is about $2 for most items. They use various delivery companies that deliver in China and most things I get within 2-3 days.

All the time we get packages, however this leads to despising the mailman as sometimes he refuses to get out o he truck, delivers the mail to the wrong house, lies and says we weren't home when we WATCHED him deliver the mail and not the package, etc.

I ordered a ton of stuff last summer, but since then I haven't ordered much, and now I'm officially in save-for-school mode. Certainly won't be seeing any packages soon, unless I use the Amazon gift card I got for my ex's birthday, which was back in August, and she hasn't cared to see me since. I crossed it out, but I'm almost certainly going to do it now.

I get parcels about once or twice per month. I order from Amazon every now and then, and my mum will sometimes send me parcels with goodies. :)

For stores that I've also got locally, I prefer to have items ordered in store, so I can collect them myself. a) It's usually free, and I don't have to worry about a minimum spend. b) Most parcels I receive end up at the depot anyway because I'm hardly ever at home during the day, so collecting a product from the store is actually easier for me.

Once or twice a year--and usually only around the holidays.

To mail something out is hiway robbery right now (it cost me $20 to ship a small package out t the US a few days ago--and that was a late x-mas gift)  So there isn't much I can really do.

Between all the people living here, it seems like there's always something coming in the mail! And I'm usually the one to accept it at the door. I really appreciate our mail person, and I REALLY hope he doesn't get reassigned some day lol. Hes always so cheerful and nice, and he's never left packages in weird unsafe places if I haven't been home.

I usually make him cookies and leave them in the mailbox for him during the holidays, with a note saying how much I appreciate him doing his job as well as he does. xD Especially because the holidays can be so crazy for USPS.

It depends (sometimes I buy a lot of things in a short time, sometimes I go a while without buying online.. etc), but I tend to get at least one thing per month online? A lot of things I like aren't available over here so it's my only option, heh.

I remember when we lived at our old house, my mom had so many packages that came from stuff we ordered that the mail carrier started to get sarcastic with her about it because she always had to bring them to our door. LOL

Very occasionally these days. I've been disappointed with a lot of clothing I've bought online, so found it better to buy in person (also supports local economy)

As for ponies, toys, and other stuff - I've cut down a lot of that, due to having a small living space.

I'm the same way. I'll go months at a time only getting like one thing a month. Then, I'll get a few things within a couple weeks.

I get tiny little blind bag-sized packages from China sometimes, but the frequency varies greatly depending on when new figures show up for sale and how long it takes them to become really cheap. They're definitely a lot less frequent than they used to be, now that I have almost everything I want that's already been released.

I vary anywhere between about once a month and a few times a week. I seem to do most of my online shopping in spurts :) Most of the supplements I feed my horses and dog are ordered and when I put in a bulk order of those is usually what "reminds" me that I can buy things online (for better or worse!). When finances are doing well enough for me to start binging on pony buys, I usually get a few packages a week, but I haven't had the opportunity to do that in a while.

At the moment maybe once every 1-2 weeks.  I used to buy things more regularly, particularly if I was working on some project that I needed little bits and pieces for, but things are a little tighter these days so I'm cutting back.

We have a PO box, so we go and collect our mail, which depending on the person on the counter can be great or ridiculous, There is one lady who wants to see ID all the time, which is stupid, because I just went and got the notice out of the box with my KEY, of course it's my mail! But the family that run the PO are great, and let the people in the household sign for each other's mail, so that all of us don't have to do a mail run, because they never put names on the notices, and you don't know whose it is until you get it! The parcel posties are so bad though, Our gate is about 10 metres from the house, and it's a two-storey, so they'll pull up and beep, but by the time you get downstairs, let alone get near the gate - they're gone, and you have to wait until the next day to pick it up! Which is why we got the PO box for parcels, it's much easier, and we get our parcels quicker.

Probably about once a month for me, give or take!  My brother and dad order more than I do, so we probably have packages coming once a week or so.  My mom only really orders online for holidays.

I get more packages if I have a convention coming up because I'm a cosplayer, so during the lead up to a con I have all kinds of wigs and other costume goodies coming in the mail.  I get figures, art books, and other anime/ manga collectibles in the mail every couple of months because it isn't super unusual for me to have something on preorder from ami ami.  I don't do it all the time though because shipping from Japan is expensive!

We have a couple of mail people that rotate on our route, on guy and one lady are good, but I'm not a fan of one of the guys because he has a nasty habit of leaving the mailbox open in the rain (or even not in the rain).  Once I had a pony either get stolen or blown away in a wind storm because he left our box open and I came home to mail all over the front yard.  Unfortunately, Snuzzle never turned up so I had to buy another one

Varies for me as well - the last couple weeks I've gotten several packages a week, but the three or so months before that I got nothing.  I guess I splurge in spurts, haha.

I live in the middle of nowhere, so the chances of me finding stuff I want offline are slim to none.  I only really buy groceries, household supplies, dog suppplies, clothes and shoes in person (and the clothes and shoes are typically once a year or once every few years depending on how my current wardrobe is faring.)

The last time I was in my local Walmart they had completely decimated the MLP and MH/EAH sections and there was barely any merch there.  I haven't checked in awhile but that Walmart's toy selection has always sucked, so I'm not expecting them to have much of a presence any more.

Plus movies, tv box sets, games and books are ALWAYS cheaper on Amazon.  (I have an Amazon credit card too, LOL).

Also, I imagine our mail person isn't a big fan of me, either.  Whenever we have a package they have to drive up our driveway, get out and put the box on our porch. :P

I always get mail, so many packages of cheap stuff from China or Japan off eBay that the office has a BOX for me in their office closet (mind you they use this for residents' large mail items) that says my apt # in it.... I've also got plenty of those slips from the post office in my door with my apt #written on it in marker that show a cartoon of a man being burried in box saying that your mailbox is full, come and clean it out.
:Rolf:
Once I ordered the first two years of complete G4 McDonalds ponies off eBay and my office manager asked me if I ordered rocks! If my husband doesn't check the mail too often she will ask if I've stopped spending all his money o Japan xD xD xD she knows its mine if the post man has a too-big package from me and its either Disney Store (my le dolls) or something from my Japan. I'm the only one in the complex apparently who orders stuff from Japan.

yeah sadly im clicking the once a month now or buy from stores. (online usually from china)
a few years back the NZ dollar was great buying from the US and the US had cheap shipping. now everything is too expensive and the cost of living in New Zealand is so high there isn't much of a disposable income, so what ever i find at markets etc too or cheap blind bags from china with free shipping

Most of the time there are a couple of packages in the week for me, and I send out 1 or 2.
Because I live in the Netherlands, most of my packages come from the US (delivery costs really stink atm  )
And I also get packages from Japan, with great toys.

When I first moved to the US three years ago I had deliveries coming almost every day - I was totally enamoured by all the things you could buy online with free shipping (and no customs fees!).  I eventually got over the novelty of it though, so we're probably at a couple of times a week now.

That said, the only time I could actually say that I really knew my postman was about five years ago in Canada - I was actually getting fewer packages overall, but a lot of them were BJDs coming from Korea or Japan that I had to sign for (and pay taxes on), so I actually had to talk to him every time, so we got to know each other.  My current delivery people just drop things off, so even though they're around more often I don't really know them.

Nowadays it's a once-in-a-while thing.

Sigh, someday.

I'm a PhD student, and lately I get mostly books. Books from Japan. Books from America. Books from the UK. Books books books....

And this is to two addresses. My family took in 2 book parcels for me this afternoon. Meanwhile, I collected three book parcels from the not so amused security guard here in London this evening.

And there are still some to come. Books!

I pretty much live in the middle of nowhere, and packages go into an old fridge lying on its back by the side of the road to protect them from the elements (if they won't fit in the mailbox nearby). So, I'm just going to count roadside delivery as something being delivered to my home.

I do a lot of shopping online, and my parents sometimes do as well. I can end up finding anything from several packages on the same day to only one or two in a month. Books, games, ponies, craft supplies, clothes, snack foods... it's always fun seeing if I can guess what a package is before I get in the door! I also wonder what the very very few neighbors think seeing me in my fluffy cat-eared hoodie going back and forth three times a week and sometimes carrying huge stacks of mystery packages, never saying a word to any of them...
