I've got my eye on an adorable mermaid sheetset on ebay. They're Pottery Barn, and a discontinued line so they're hard to find. Plus, overseas shipping and conversion rates make them so expensive! I found a second hand one for half the price. The seller has great feedback and says the set is in great condition.
My first thought was, ew, secondhand! But then as I thought about it, we had second-hand G1 pony sheets growing up, and I have an old duvet cover proudly stashed in my collection. Maybe it's not so bad! What do you think of secondhand linen?
-
I've done that before with my Pokemon ones! As long as they don't have stains of any kind and they are washed twice before they are given to me I will take them! *wants to continue finding missing pieces to Pokemon bed set*
This reminds me that I need to buy the G4 bedsheets at Walmart for my future pony room.....
-
Id say : why not :)
Clean / wash the sheets and enjoy them!
I did that with Pokemon and G1 pony stuff in the past and would do it again! :) Well I would not buy stuff with visible stains that wont come off but if it still looks good, Id buy it!
-
It's not a mattress  haha so do it! X
-
To have the item in my collection, maybe yes. To sleep in them, definitely not. I find the thought alone totally gross.
-
Wash 'em and it should be good. I mean, you sleep in hotel sheets.
-
I've bought them before but not for use. It wouldn't bother me to buy some for use though. I've just never had the need. I mean I wear second hand clothes sometimes and this doesn't seem any worse than that.
-
I'd be very very careful. Bedbugs are rampant in certain areas. They can be very hard to get rid of. We get them at the hospital I work in and a local mcdonalds was even closed because they were infested. I would instantly do multiple hot water washes.
-
yes but i always wash it before putting it on my bed
1st to kill bugs and stuff
2nd to make it smell of my fave smell
3rd to put on the line so it has a fresh smell too !
:D
-
Oh for sure. But I hang it outside for 24 hours and then wash in hot water with Oxiclean!
-
I have no qualms about buying secondhand bedding to use. In fact, aside from a body pillow I bought at Walmart, 90% of the bedding I use (heck, 90% of what I own!) was bought secondhand.
Definitely wash it first, but honestly, I see no problem with buying used.
-
I'd use second hand bedding. But buying online, I don't know. Checking the condition is so much easier in person, you know, wear, tears, fading, yellowing and sweat marks would not be nice surprises. :|
-
I may be in the minority..I don't think id get them to use..the thought creeps me out a bit.
Then again, I suppose if there are no stains or tears/worn patches and its washed (2..3..4 times >>) it might not be that bad.
-
They go in the laundry just like second hand clothes, Iv never seen a problem with it! There was a set of sheets I REALLY wanted at a salvation army the other day, but they were unfortunately to big for my bed, otherwise I would have got them... thinking back on it.. I probably should have got them just for the fabrick xD Could have used it to make curtains or something.. (which is actually a really good idea if you need a ton of fabric but don't want to pay a ton, look at thrift store sheets/curtains, you might find something good!)
I think I would buy used sheets even if they had some spotting on them, as I'm pretty good at getting stains out of fabrics and .. idk its never bothered me? I clean and sterilize things and know that I'm not going to catch any bad germs from it lol.
-
Pottery Barn has awesome bedding!
I say go for it if they look good, or ask more questions/request more photos from the seller. You should be covered by ebay, so if there is a problem you could get your money back hopefully.
I would just wash them a few times with hot water to kill anything that may be there and enjoy them!

Word. Just wash them per the guidelines to get rid of bedbugs just in case.
-
I don't for use, although I have a few vintage sets for display purposes only.
There's a few things I will never buy used and sheets are one of them. Shoes are another.
-
For sure. Just make sure to wash them and it should be good. I've done it with pony linens.
-
Thanks for the input guys!! I'm gonna go ahead and get them :) Yes they will definitely be double or triple-washed and given an oxiclean treatment ;)
Here's a picture, so you can squee with me! Pictures always make things more fun

Yes, but I'd wash them a couple times before putting them on. Just in case.
-
Those are adorable!! I would buy them in a heartbeat xD
-
LOL, I think all the bedsheets I have right now are secondhand, except one. Just wash them before using. That mermaid pattern is adorable!

Not sure if you already bought them, but Australia has a rule about not accepting second hand bedding through quarantine due to bed bugs. If they catch it it will be destroyed.

late to the party , but oh YESSSSSSSSS I buy second hand my little pony bed sets all the time I adore them dont leave them behind no no no no not 1 tiny hair on my heas thinking to leave them behind !! :P :P :P :P
Most of the time when I buy them they allready smell like fresh washing so then I wont wash it again , else I do a wash myself and it smells good

Enjoy you're lovely bedding babe  :lovey:

Just give them another wash before you use them! No problem!
-
My family almost never buys sheets new. So much cheaper secondhand. :P I also wear like 85% used clothing, used furniture, I have bought used shoes in the past...You just wash it before use and there's no problem. I don't need to think about what has happened to the used stuff before it was donated, just like I don't need to think about how gross the water in a pool/lake/ocean is when I'm swimming in it! The sheets and clothes gotta be fresher...
-
I have second hand sheets, blankets, towels, you name it. Just wash them and you're good!
-
If I can purchase something for less used I will. Or better quality. There are some things I will not risk though- a mattress no way. or if I bought a chair or sofa it would be for the frame only, stripped outside treated to be reupholstered- unless I knew the person giving it to me and the history. So, sheets -Yes, I would even from a thrift..... I would seal them however in something and heat treat before I even bring them inside. sadly even new items is no guarantee it'll be bug free. some places allow returns and resell that item..
Items I can't clean I do inspect. even my pony packages (and contents) get inspected for evidence of bugs. (inspect crevices, folds and stitching on fabrics!)
Sorry to be scary, but Bedbugs are horrible, horrible little buggers. A friend still has nightmares about them after being away in Vancouver and getting to experience the magic first hand. Her bites were awful. they are VERY hard to eradicate if you inadvertently bring them home, and having professionals come in to heat treat your home will damage a lot of stuff (and PVC ponies. :( )
I don't purchase things I would destroy like a type of fabric that high heat would ruin. I don't wear fancy clothing anyway. My garment steamer was purchased years ago to help us get down ugly wallpaper that was everywhere in this house. but this is another use it's served well in. I have a carport I can steam stuff in, before loading into my washing machine.
-
Normally, I would stay away from second hand bedsheets, but since I want G1 MLP sheets I have no other choice. Also, as long as you wash it a few extra times before using it, you should be good. :)
-
Update-- I went ahead and got them! Sooo cute. Hopefully they'll arrive soon (from the US). They even come with an extra pillowcase in blue which is adorable :) They were about half the price of new ones and the seller assured me she'd sanitised them as well as several washes. As a bonus they should be a bit softer than brand new having been washed a few times :)
-
I'm pretty picky. I won't even buy second-hand clothes. The only clothes I've ever worn second hand came from my friend's mom and it's because I trust her to be clean. But bedsheets.....the thought of sleeping in them really grosses me out. There are all kinds of body fluids that could have been in those sheets. Not to be disgusting, but it's true. I'm squeamish about that kind of stuff.
-
Like others have said, it's like hotel sheets, although in my opinion, better because you can inspect and clean them to your own satisfaction, while with hotel sheets, you have to just trust it's OK. I have mostly new sheets, but I bought a few used.
-
I probably wouldn't buy a secondhand mattress, but bedsheets, sure, why not. I don't see that it's any different from sleeping in a hotel bed :B I'd just wash 'em a couple of times before using them.
-
Any bedding I buy goes straight into the washer when I bring it home from thrift stores. Plush toys straight to the freezer then washer if they are able. Freezer for the bedding too if I feel the item is a bit iffy on possible bugs. Almost my whole wardrobe is second hand since I've lost weight. Had to can't afford that many new clothes and I dropped two pants sizes quite fast.
-
I bought second hand G1 MLP sheets from CL before!!! :silly: I was super picky about condition and even asked before hand if they had any "pilling" that really annoys me! They were great though and the we even threw in some extra pillow cases lol
-
Yes yes yes!! I adore vintage bed linen. I snap it up whenever I find something pretty. Slightly addicted.......I blame Rachel Ashwell.....darn her for making shabby chic so beautiful!
