Title: Evilbay help question: problem buyer
Post by: Iceglider on January 25, 2016, 05:13:34 AM
My husband was trying to sell some legos and finally got them sold after a non-paying bidder, so annoying. This time though, the buyer paid, but gave my hubby the wrong address and the package was returned to us after a long journey. He now wants us to ship it to a different address. Is there a way we can bill him for the 2nd round of shipping? I don't want to be out $8 for the buyers mistake. Should we just cut our losses and not bother with it. We are still making a small profit, though it will be $8 less. How would Ebay view this situation? I just don't know what the next step should be.

If he pays you through paypal for shipping and provides you the correct address through paypal, I think you should be covered. I think the BUYER should pay for the shipping since they provided you the wrong address to begin with, IMHO.

However, if you listed free shipping on your listing, I'd maybe call eBay and ask their opinion on this matter.

He already paid for the item to begin with (to the wrong address). Can we send him another bill or something? We did not do free shippping.

Do you print your labels?

You have their PayPal info, you can bill them for $8.

You'll have to ask them to change their ship to address on eBay and PayPal.

I think you should call eBay. You wouldn't want to do anything that might void your seller protection.

Was "the wrong address" given to you by eBay, like on a shipping label?  How about the new address?

I don't think you should ship anywhere that isn't on the PayPal payment or eBay shipping label.  The buyer could claim the package never arrived and eBay would side with them.

I agree with calling eBay or asking this on their seller forum (http://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/bd-p/selling-db).

You will lose your seller protection if you reship to an address other than what the buyer used at checkout. As the seller you should refund in full, then re-invoice with the additional second shipping charge before the buyer repays.  If this process isn't followed, the original incorrect ship-to address will remain in your PayPal transaction details, which totally defeats the purpose of eBay's & PayPal's seller protections.

I would explain that to your buyer. I would also explain that she must change the address in her Paypal account before she resends payment and before you are able to reship the legos.

At this point, I would refund the buyer and cut my losses. As said above, you lose seller protection if you ship to a different address than their Paypal / eBay checkout address. It's already such a big headache I don't imagine it would just stop.

But yeah, if you do decide ship to a different address, I would absolutely hold the buyer responsible for shipping charges, and collect them before it ships. The shipping error wasn't yours to begin with - this is the buyer's problem.

But if he turns around and files any sort of claim on the purchase, you would be SOL for shipping to an unverified address.

I would send him a refund and cut your losses-  this could go poorly.
