Annual Holiday Art Swap!

Last year the ornament swap was one of our most successful swaps ever. So we are bringing back the ornaments again!

Information:

As with last year, there will be two categories:

2D: This category is for a more simple ornament. Your design may be painted, drawn, or made digitally. Any materials are acceptable; be as creative as you want! If you choose to make your ornament on paper, then it must be done on sturdy paper and laminated or otherwise reinforced for durability.

3D: This category is for those who want to get a little craftier! You may paint onto an ornament, sculpt, sew, knit, and create a unique ornament for your partner. Use your imagination and showcase your skills!

Rules:

* Each person will make an ornament for only one member.
* Put your screen name somewhere on the ornament so your partner knows who you are.
* Please mail on time. If you run into troubles or delays, PM this account ASAP.
* Please post a brag in the Art Swap Brag Thread once you have received your package.
* The swap is secret; we won't reveal anything until the packages are received and ask that you do the same.
* There can be no drop-outs once the partners have been assigned. If you have any doubts about meeting the requirements, please don't join.
* Feedback will be left by each swapper for their partner once the swap is completed.

Other considerations:

* Please package your ornament carefully. This is a fun swap and we don't want to have any broken or bent artwork. Ornaments in the 2D category may be shipped in an envelope, but please reinforce your ornament with cardboard or something similarly sturdy to protect them from bending. For fragile 3D ornaments, please wrap carefully and ship in a box with enough padding to protect your creation.

* If you choose to include extras in your swap box, please keep them under $5. Extras are NOT compulsory.

Requirements to join:

* You have been an Arena member for 3 months and have at least 100 posts.
* Swappers must have 3 trading or selling references.
* Must be willing to mail internationally. If you can't, please do not sign up.

Glad to have you! I'm participating again this year also. Sorry for the super short signup window this year, guys. Life since our move has been totally crazy and hectic and I've hardly been on the Arena at all. This was the first time I've had a chance to get the swap going. Eek!

Keep in mind that if you do a greeting card-sized 2D art, international shipping from the US is ONLY a $1.15 stamp! This is THE most economical swap in the Arena, shipping-wise!

That said- I'm undecided... I'm participating in lots of art comps and such, but I'll probably end up joining! ;)

Exactly! That's why we included two categories. 2D to save money on shipping or for those who prefer to do their art on paper. And 3D for the artists who like to sculpt or sew or anything else. Going to be checking on references and applications for the night in just a little bit. We would love to have you all! :)

I am STILL super proud of them

I love them so much! :heart: They're currently displayed in my pony cabinet among custom ponies but they'll be moved to the tree as soon as we get one! For the first time we actually have room for a full sized tree, I'm dreaming of getting one even though we'll be spending the holidays with our families as usual. IKEA had some very realistic looking trees last year, I wonder if they are bringing them back this year. I think they were only medium sized, though... But even that would be better than my mini tree of about 1 or 1.5 ft. :D

Partner, what are your feelings on a non-pony ornament?
Since it is an ornament swap on the mlp arena I would prefer the ornament to be pony related. THat being said if you want to make another ornament and have it as an extra i'm ok with that. I'm on swap-bot and I have signed up for few ornaments swaps there so I prefer non pony stuff on swap-bot pony stuff on mlparena

What are your thoughts on a freestanding tabletop decoration instead of a tree ornament?
I love all types of decorations, pony ornaments end up getting hung up with my pony stuff so if its a stand alone ornament or decoration thats totally ok.

Glitter: yay or nay?
I don't really care for glitter, I guess a little here and there would be ok but honestly if you can get a pretty look without it I prefer that!

Partner, who is your favorite pony (and what generation)
This was really difficult I tried so hard and this was about as far as I could narrow it down to:

(Just exploring all the possibilities here...) I'm fine with any type of decoration really, even a wreath or something like that... Feel free to go with any idea you like, partner! Ornaments tend to be smaller and more lightweight -> less expensive to ship, so I guess that's the most viable option anyway.

I'm not a fan of excessive glitter but if the ornament involves snow... glitter goes perfectly with that! ;)

Pony vs Non-pony
I'm happy to receive either partner, or even a mix of both! Whatever your creative mind comes up with!!

Table or tree ornament?
I'd prefer a tree ornament. We have cats who will gravity test any item that is on a table, and dogs who will then follow up with durability testing.

I had family in all last week and I've been sick for almost a month now, but then by Sunday I totally crashed. Went to the doctor and I have pneumonia. Yay me. Been home from work all week (except Tuesday, when I thought I could make it through a day and was very mistaken) and I was finishing up my ornament yesterday. Got into a coughing fit, grabbed for the saucepan that I've been coughing into (gross, I know), and sent the ornament to the floor. And of COURSE it shattered. :( I have started something new, but I'm totally disgusted. It had turned out so pretty and I hadn't taken pics yet because it wasn't quite done. UGH!!!!!!! Mine's going international, but I'll try to send it express if it's not too pricey so it still makes it for Christmas.

Today's the first day I've been able to sit up much at all, so I'll mark items as shipped shortly.

I finished painting my replacement ornament today! I used the same design as my original but a very different overall style. I like how it came out and will be able to finish assembly tomorrow when the paint is 100% dry. I should be able to get it out tomorrow with the mail. Whooppee!

I finished up my new ornament to replace the one I broke (just when I think I can't get any less coordinated, I do something like break an ornament that I've been working on forever. UGH!) and made it to the PO before they closed today. So my box is on its way! Hopefully it won't take too long for the box to arrive. I actually ended up liking the replacement that I just made better than the original anyway, so I guess all's well that ends well.

Gah, out for the weekend doesn't even begin to describe it. Its been super hectic here I've really only had my ipad (which is so difficult for me to use the arena on) so I apologize for the late response.

We had a lovely Christmas here. I got three coloring books, two teddy bears, two Fluttershy ponies (one pony and 1 plush), some craft kits, and a Frozen calendar lol. It was like being a kid again and I'm totally cool with that! I also got grownup things too, but the sheer amount of kid stuff this year cracks me up.

It must have gotten really jostled though! Originally she was putting the star on the tree. I'm glad you like her anyway :blush:
