I was talking to my five year old daughter earlier today while we put together pony wish lists. She couldn't believe how many ponies there are, since she assumed the only ponies were the main characters from FiM. We got to talking about how anyone could choose a favorite from such a huge amount of ponies.
For me, it's Firefly. Specifically the Firefly that came with the Firefly's Adventure VHS tape. She was my favorite childhood pony, and I wish I still had her. Someday I'll find another.

Absolute favorite: Wind Whistler.
Second favorite: Fizzy
Honorable mentions: Just about all the ponies from Year 1 to Year 5 with a couple Year 6's thrown in for flavor.

Choosing one is hard, because there are different angles I can see it at.
If I look at it this way, if I could only keep one Hasbro pony it probably would be my childhood Truly. I assume that means she is my favorite. (If we included non-hasbro MLPs in there, I'm not sure I could choose one).
And from a design stand point, *really* like baby sunribbon

A single favorite? Impossible! I could give a top 5 by gens though.
G1- Shady, she holds a place very close to my heart as she was my very first pony. I hope to have all the somewhat limited variants if her one day. Posey, I always liked that she was bit of a quiet hermit living in her garden. Also I love the banana yellow and pale pink color combo. I have a beautiful non faded Oosey in my collection.
G2 - Merry moments, I'm not sure why. I just do. I think it might be her dark teal body color.
G3 - Seaspray, just I love her so much. Her blue green colour scheme, her pose is my favorite g3 pose. Her symbol ... I fo think design wise g3 were as good as early g1.
G4 ) Fluttershy, because she's kind if like Posey and the character they built for her reminded me of a 13 year old me. Well ... Me now too. I've just.learnt to bluster through it. And also back to the pink and yellow again, I just think she's pretty ... Like if Posey and Dancing Butterflies had a baby :)

I love Medley! There were others that I remember being thrilled to get as a kid (like Baby Glory and Cuddles with the nursery), but Medley's always stuck with me. I loved her curly green hair and soothing body color and the fact she could fly and played the more calm to Firefly's high energy.

I have three top favorites!
G1 Medley - because she was my first! :blush:
G1 TE Sweet Stuff and G1 SS Magic Star - are second to none because they remind me of my childhood. Sweet Stuff was given to me as a gift by my Grandma. Her nickname for me was "Sweet/Sweetness," and we were super close. She passed away from leukemia in 1990 (cancer sucks!), and every time I think of / look at Sweet Stuff, it reminds me of her / good times with her. :) Magic Star was the first SS pony I got, I remember petting 'him' like a real horse.. :lol:
My favorite set -- Toss up between the TEs and Sparkle Ponies. ^.^

Very tough question...Glory because I am sentimental towards her. Based on looks, and excluding the TAF baby ponies, I would go with Masquerade. I love the colors used in her mane more than any other G1 MLP out there.

My childhood Tickle, for sentimental reason. Other than that, it varies. Baby Bowtie is the flavor of the month.

my all time favorite pony is g 1 fluterbye. i love everything about her :)

G1 Butterscotch. She just seems so warm and caring. And she also has butterflies, which have some personal meaning for me. :)

Flutterbye is beautiful! I gotta say though, OT, that I think g4 Fluttershy looks more like Posey :)

My first is Surprise. I just loved her in the cartoon and with Danny. Too bad there was no danny doll made I found that a bummer. I loved baby surprise just as much or even more with accessories.
Another vote for Medley I just loved the soothing color combo. She was my favorite in the movie.
My last favorite is Locket. I find her awesome she holds the key to ponyland which I am jealous of man if I only had that darn key. :mad: >_<

I don't have one overall favourite. I have some that have special meaning to me, some from childhood and some from other sources, but I can't play favourites really. I have a special fondness for Taffeta for becoming my online name some 17 years ago but I chose her name originally because all the ponies I loved growing up were taken and so it was a belated fondness that grew after I adopted her name for online.
I suppose I should really say Magic Star because I wrote so many stories about her as a kid - but that was my favourite then. I couldn't name just one now.

Sugarberry is my most overall favorite! That being said, as others have said, it is hard to pick just one favorite...Fluttershy is my favorite G4.

Might be a bit stereotypical but mimic I loved the episode with her in it when I was little and it stook :blush:

Posey, Majesty, Windy and the miniature MacDonalds version of Princess Silver Swirl were my childhood favourites and I still love them just as much now. :lovey:

Yay.. it's a hard mission... I've thinking about it last weeks and I couldn't nominate just one.. But I guess Sugarberry (my fav childhood pony), Glory (because she is a white unicorn with mane and tail in purple and blue and these colors are my faviest) and Raincurl (because I love her mark, colors and everything on her!)

4-Speed, especially the Spanish version.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE Lickety Split. i'm not really a "must have all Ponies of the same set" type girl, but i want ALL the variants of Lickety Split, including the porcelain statue. it won't happen (nirvana Ponies are too much $$$ ;_; ) but i can dream! i really love her in the show. i loved Baby Lickety Split in Bright Lights especially. her voice was funny.
for G2, for some reason i really love Samba and Rumba. they look like they're sisters that work in a circus.
for G3, i'm actually kind of a sucker for the Core 7. i LOOOVE Toola Roola. she's so silly! within the show, i like Sunny Daze and Sky Wishes. i think G3 had the best Cutie Marks.
G4, my favorite Mane 6 is Rarity. i am just crazy for her. design-wise, i love the way Photo Finish and Zecora look.
iif i had to pick an all-time favorite ... Rarity, just because she has the most character.

I've always been really partial to Seashell, though - I really love her color combination, and I have a great fondness for ponies who were made with blazes and freckles. Plus, the beachy symbol. ^.^
I never had her as a child, but I did have quite a few other ponies as a kid so I shouldn't complain, lmao. I'm thrilled to finally have a version of her in my collection now (Italian), but it's not enough, lol I see myself collecting an army of Seashell (and probably Bubbles as well)

My number one has always been Princess Tiffany. Ever since I first saw the princess pony episode in the 80s.
I think because white has always been my favourite colour......and I know, I know, it's not really a colour.
That and the fact that she is in my favourite G1 pose. She's just too perfect. :lovey:

Surprise! Especially the baby, and the Italy one with those gentle blue eyes.
My best friend had them, and I always envied her.

My overall favorites are G1 Mimic and Heart Throb, followed closely by G3 Pinkie Pie.

im a sucker for any variation of Fifi! Whether it be So Soft, Twice as Fancy, or First Tooth- I love them all! I have a small Fifi army forming lol :heart:

My two favorites are Peppermint Crunch and Sherbet. They were the first two ponies I got as a child, so they have sentimental value for me.

I guess when I was a baby it was 'waterlilly baby sea pony'.
At age 9 I think it was 'Likity Split'
And G2 'Sundance'.
Now I am going to say it's 'WigWam'..
But give it a few days or weeks and it will be diffrent.
I have a hard time just chooseing one beacuse there are so many grate ponies.
And I only ever grew up with baby sea ponies or other ponies that I don't remember..

Glory because she was my childhood pony and because of her sweet backstory that won me over.
I can say she's my favorite unicorn. My favorite earth pony is Bubbles. My favorite pegasis is a toss-up between Firefly and Medley. And my favorite baby is lavender Ember... though blue is very close.

Hmmm . . . if I wanted to be thorough I'd choose my favorite from each set, but that would take a ridiculously long time.
Personality-wise, Firefly is my favorite. "Danger is my life, Medley!"
Design-wise, probably Blueberry Baskets. Lovely pose, lovely colors!
Nostalgia-wise, non-BBE Baby Ribbon. In the stories I made up for her when I was younger she was acerbic, strong-willed, smart, guarded, and hardworking. She had a tragic past; since mine is missing half her horn, she had lost that and her mother (who I didn't have) in an incident with a Stronadon.
So, yeah. :)

Windwhistler. She was my first pony and the one who really got me into collecting again, so she gets special ranking. :)
My top four also include: Crumpet, Tux and Baby Princess Sparkle.

My favorite pony is Starry Wings, from the set of Windy Wings during the G1 era. I have loved her ever since I was a kid, and she is one of the only childhood ponies I still have. She has everything I like when it comes to ponies: she's yellow, she has a bold color scheme, she has wings, and she has a celestial themed symbol.

G1 Blossom. She has always been my favorite. I have mine from childhood sitting on my desk.

I'm with everyone else, picking a single favorite is hard!
I suppose my most favorite is the UK Princess Sparkle, because she's SO over the top gaudy and I LOVE that! :lol: I also love Sky Rocket and Star Hopper.

I'm with himmie - Spanish 4-Speed (Viajero). So gorgeous, best boy pony pose, beautiful, thick eyelashes. I just adore him!! Very close second is Citrus Sweetheart... which is odd, because G1 is my favorite generation, but I just love her colors together.

and G4- Nightmare Moon (Luna is good too, but Villains are cooler)

This is so tough, loyalty to ponies I had as a child plays a big part in it. So for that reason I'll go with Wind Whistler.... I'd probably name most of my childhood herd as my favourite if I think about it too long!!!

G4 McDonalds Lily Blossom. I know she's not rare or anything, but she was my first pony ever and she barely has a tail and she's kinda special to me.
