The past month has been incredibly rough for me and it's been a long time since I logged on here. I know we've got quite a few writers at the Arena - who's participating in NaNoWriMo this year? This is the first year I'm attempting more than one novel... in fact, I'm *just* crazy enough that I'm aiming for... five. Yes, five. We'll see how that goes :P
For those of you new to the concept of NaNoWriMo, it stands for National Novel Writing Month and happens every year in November. The challenge is to write 50k words worth of new fiction through the course of the month. It's loads of fun (if you're a writer ;) ) and a fantastic motivation/kick in the pants to write that story idea you always daydream about :)

Yay for NaNoWriMo! :read: I finished my goal in the younger kids and teens version last year by writing 25,000 words. (I won a coupon to get a book printed but I never used it and now I realize what a waste that was...but anyways...)
I don't think I'll be doing it this year, I'm not much of a novel writer. But perhaps I can set my goal to write several short stories or a novella.

There are also two events in the spring time called "Camp NaNoWriMo" where you set your own goal - anywhere from 10k to 1M words. For some reason, I've never been able to stay on track for the Camp months, but November's sacred ground for me :)

I will be :) Took part two years ago and finished a book, then last year i wrote a sequel for it and this year will be another continuation of the series lol XD Wasn't a series two years ago but it is now lol XD Can't wait to get started ^_^

I will be. I've done it for several years (Camp NaNo as well) but I'm still nervous as I've not planned much, and due to depression motivation has been... lacking. But we'll see!

not doing Nano -almost wrote that ton gniod anan- don't even know how.
But I'm doing SKetchVember which is the artists equivalent of Nano we have to draw everyday.

I say I'm going to participate every year, and every year I get to a grand total of zero words. Maybe this will be my year? ^^;

I'll be participating. I tried it last year and didn't get the 50k words, but I did get some work done on several fanfics, started two new novels and got some work done on another novel that had already been in progress. If my muse can calm its ADHD I might get something done this year :lol: Same user name on the nano site.

I'm not a novel writer, but last year I gave myself a similar challenge. My poor LiveJournal tends to collect dust. Last year, I gave myself the modest goal of writing 20,000 words in my LJ for the month of November. I surpassed it a little ways. I will set the same goal this year. I do most of my writing on weekdays, so that rounds out to be about 1,000 words per day. :)

Yay to all of this year's participants! And those of you who can't make it this year, remember that there's always next year :) Life happens, and that's okay! Wishing all of you many wonderful words over the next month... we're down to hours now! (And I believe it's even started in some parts of the world?)

I am! But I have 0% confidence I will actually finish this year. I'm so busy with a new job, a new website, a photography hobby, a wedding coming up and friends who need me that I don't think I can find the peace of mind to write.
I will try, though!

I've never done the official NaNoWriMo. I can't spare time to write fiction at the moment because of my PhD work, but when I had the time for fanfic and other writing, I usually averaged more than 50k a month, so it didn't really appeal to me. I figured if I did something "official" I'd give myself terminal writer's block or something xD.

I'm doing it! I did it for the first time last year, and got 50k, and now I'm at it again :) got 7k down already.
