Title: Interplanet Janet, she's a galaxy girl
Post by: SourdoughStomper on August 29, 2015, 10:41:24 AM
I would love to have teleportation. Whether it was like a Star Trek style transporter or even a shuttle craft. Something that can get me around various places of the earth in very short order. Maybe the shuttle craft would be better as I'm not so keen on the idea of my molecules getting scrambled. :P

After that, virtual reality like a holodeck would be fun. :D

Medical scanners would be nice so that way we don't have to get MRIs, X-rays, blood tests, etc. Just a wave of the scanner, and BAM! There you go.

I know there are probably all kinds of science-fiction technology that I didn't think of. So feel free to vote "other" if you like and then tell us what you have in mind.

You know what I've always wanted?

Some sort of headset device like in "Meet The Robinsons" that allows you to display your memories and/or thoughts on a screen. Or your dreams!

I have such vivid daydreams and thoughts, especially when listening to music, and I'd love to show them to others. I just wish there was technology to do that!

Teleportation. So I can visit people easier.

I think that we can all agree here that if time travel were possible, we'd all be in the 80's buying out all the brand new MLPs....
....Suddenly there's a LOT more moc Mimics around!

A dream recorder would be fascinating! :) And potentially embarrassing.

I chose the things I thought would be most useful: Interstellar travel, Food/item replicators, Teleportation.

Time travel sounds really cool and would be great for learning history, but I've seen enough sci-fi to know things can get real weird real fast.

Every time I'm up for a long drive or a day in the airport I'm like godddddd why can't I just teleport. So yes. That.

My friends and I ALWAYS talked about someone trying to invent a dream recorder... you basically would get the plug in installed in your brain and plug yourself up to the "machine/dream recorder" every night....

So glad I wasn't the only one who wants this!!!

We need gravity manipulation not just to creative gravity fields in zero gravity and anti-gravity fields to counter natural gravity, but gravity based propulsion for space ships.

Interstellar travel is also on my list.

And something we need to cross ourselves with sharks so we have gills and webbed hands to live both on land and underwater.

Aaaaand that's why I'm learning animation.

I grew up on Star Trek, I can't choose just 3!!!

Teleportation would solve a lot of issues I have with the idea of long distance flight, never mind the cost. Its always been the superpower Imwould choose.

Time travel is my other but under one condition...things in the past could be witnessed but not necessarily changed. Changing it asks for a whole load of trouble, even if it would be nice to go back and buy up ponies or prevent wars.

However, what I think should be a thing is the so called 'Orbital Sunglasses'.

Interstellar travel!! Yes!!!

Also food replication because wow that would be very useful, and antigravity because I want to float.

I also want the ability to give humans extra parts like tails and wings to be real. I always wanted a tail!

My life would be infinitely easier if I could just push a button and have food appear for me.

Also I think replicators as they are in Trek could do a lot of good - cure world hunger, make building safer buildings easier by making the better materials just as much 'cost' as the poorer ones, clean water, clothes, and help us stop destroying the environment with excessive resource mining.

Time travel, teleportation, time travel, teleportation, time travel, teleportation, time travel, teleportation, time travel, teleportation!!!!! :P

Its Time travel is my other but under one condition...things in the past could be witnessed but not necessarily changed. Changing it asks for a whole load of trouble, even if it would be nice to go back and buy up ponies or prevent wars.

True that. I would be more than happy just to float around in the past a some sort of ghost, though

Teleportation would have to have some kinds of control on it too, though. Imagine how many crimes you could get away with if there were such a thing as a personal machine   I suppose there would have to be certain ports to go to...

A dream recorder would be fascinating! :) And potentially embarrassing.

Haha, my thoughts exactly XD

Teleportation! Think about it....never having to worry about traffic and being to work on time always! And not needing to worry about driving. Less car wrecks in the world.

I picked Interstellar travel, food/item replicators and teleportation. I am particularly fond of the food replicator.. imagine all the luxury meals that usually takes hours to cook being done within seconds.. :satisfied:

I'm totally up for teleportation and time travel!  bring it on!! :frolic:  :frolic:  :frolic:  I could escape the UK any day I wanted ..go somewhere awesome, go somewhere I feel well... go meet my best friend who happens to live on a different continent and neither of us can visit face to face ATM
and time travel ... that would be epic too!

I want a replicator so I can replicate all the ponies!  And then there will be no rare ones and I shall have a swimming pool full of Crumpets.   :frolic:

A dream recorder would be fascinating! :) And potentially embarrassing.

This... So. Much. WANT.  My dreams are (usually) SUPER-entertaining, and some would make GREAT story-prompts, but sometimes I can't remember them...or remember them incorrectly or incompletely when I wake up... :/  (Unless it's the annoying ones where I'm constantly searching for something I can't seem to find or get to (usually a way home), or those ones that turn into a search for a bathroom. (those ones are usually trying to tell me something >_> I've...kinda trained myself to wake up when I start having one of those.))

Aside from that, I picked teleporter because then I wouldn't have to take the bus everywhere all the time and spend so much time waiting for them, arg; medical scanners, cuz they would be able to tell what exactly is going on when I have my dizzyness issues right off the bat, instead of going to doctor after doctor after doctor and stumping every single one of them.  And VR Holodecks because cool (and we seem to be headed in that direction anyway).

I want a replicator so I can replicate all the ponies!

Also seconding this. :P

Edit: GAH text wall.  I totally didn't mean to write so much. XD;

Medical scanners
Anti-gravity/artificial gravity
Teleportation

I choose these three, and my number one choice is for medical scanners! Just because there are so much painful and very uncomfortable examinations doctors must do before the actual surgery or other procedure....been there done that the last weeks.... :(

Anti Gravity, I think it would be so much fun to fly in my space ship to the places I want to go!
Teleportation, Bye bye planes!!! You can get from the Netherlands to the US in a blink of an eye! No more paying absurd shipping costs for ponies! If you get up in the morning you can decide....Where should we go today? US/Japan or the South Pole? :)

Unintentional semi-hijacking here to comment on the human-like AI aspect... It's here... and it terrifies the daylights out of me.  Look up Bina 48   :yikes:

I'm sure plenty of you will think this is amazing and awesome, but I have a long-standing fear of robots and OH... em gee...

Damn, I missed the teleportation option or I would've voted for that, too!! That and time travel would be *amazing*. Although I can think of lots of potential problems linked with time travel, so.. I dunno. Maybe it wouldn't work out in practice, but in theory TIME TRAVEL YES PLEASE AAAAAAAAA

You know what I've always wanted?

I'm of the mind that Time Travel would be safe if all you could do is just tape record it or something. Not interact. That would be cool.

*tape records dinosaurs and the Krakatoa going off and other cool stuffs like that there* ^.^

Replicators (I feel we could really use those with current food issues)
Medical scanners (enough said, they'd be super helpful, speed things up and hey non invasive testing would be rather good)
Interstellar travel (it's about time)

Teleportation would broaden people's horizons and bring us together ... not to mention eliminate traffic related accidents and pollution. :)

Not listed is a clean and renewable energy source to eliminate the global warming, environmental destruction and poverty cycle created by the energy industry. Something with a gentle blue glow would be nice. ;)

holodeck, medical scanners and teleportation

I want to time travel but I don't think it would be safe if it were real. People would do too much damage. If we had really interactive holodecks then we could program fake time travel and not mess up history (well, worse than our ancestors already did).

I also want crime scene scanners that take perfect impressions of crime scenes so that investigators and jurors can revisit the fresh crime scenes. Also, can we get some flawless lie detectors? That would be helpful.

I agree. If Time Travel was possible there would have to be a way that you could see what was happening but not interact with major events in history because you wouldn't want to change the future. Maybe there could be a way to prevent changing history but you could still go back and buy ponies or other or stop yourself from throwing away a toy that is worth hundreds later.

of all the items on that list, I think medical scanners would be the most amazing.

I have friends who have been misdiagnosed or even malpracticed on due to error on the part of doctors, some even rookie mistakes.

If there was a device that could scan your entire body and identify every possible symptom foreign bodies/bacteria, malfunctioning organs, or other anomalies, it would save a lot of people time from going in and out of the doctors' office. :)

Teleportation would also be AWESOME! I didn't see it at first, though, so i didn't vote for it :C
