So, I was regaling one of my co-workers about my pony hunting adventures when she asked me how to tell a real My Little Pony so she could keep an eye out when she was thrift shopping. From that conversation, I decided to make her up a little card that she could quickly reference when she comes across ponies in the wild. This is the result. I printed it out on card stock, cut it out, and folded it in half. It comes out to a card about the size of a cd case pamphlet. I used clear packaging tape to do a cheap laminating job to help protect it.
Just thought I would share this with y'all. Of course, not everyone has the same collecting preferences as me so you might need to alter it to accommodate your own preferences.

Oooh, very nice! I'll have to print out one of these for my dad.
-
SO cool, this is a perfect little guide!

That's a good idea. I just took my brother with me all the time and now he's trained. He goes to thrift stores more often than I do and almost every time I see him, he has new ponies for me. He knows that I customize so I'm not picky about getting duplicates. He actually found me a G1 Twinkle Eye Masquerade a few months back and it was one I didn't have yet.

Neat idea! And awesome that you have friends who pony hunt for you. Thanks for sharing!

What a lovely idea.. :)

I would've included a picture of a g2 (if you're also looking for them, that is), with maybe a picture of their hooves (the rainbow), since they look a bit different from the other gens. Any way, this is a super smart little field guide :D I once put together a little help booklet for my ex for pony hunting, not that he ever read it. This is much smarter than the one I made, it was pretty big and long.

love it !!!
more people joining the "pony army". that is what i call my family and friends hunting for ponies for me.
i just tell them if it is marked Hasbro and under 3 dollars pick it up but that was before the fim stuff hit the market

This is brilliant.

Yeah, I'm not too fussed about g2 myself so I didn't include a lot of info. I mean, I will be pleased if someone finds me a pony and it's a g2 just because it was sweet of them to be looking for me. But I was trying to keep the amount of info down to just the basics for my own collecting preferences.

You know I actually had a similar idea that I started a few years ago and never finished lol. You did a nice job!

Ooh, I like this! My dad loves thrifting and has occasionally found me a few ponies and is happy to find them for me. He's even started using the word "fakie" and is getting good at spotting them. :P

I like it. :3 Though fortunately my boyfriend is very willing to be trained in the fine arts of pony hunting.

Lucky. My husband still has issues identifying ponies between generations. I'll get him eventually... :P He doesn't do any thrifting much anyway so any ponies he'd spot are very few and far between.

Definitely printing a couple of these out for family!
-
Very cool idea! :)
Both my mom and my sister have bought g1s for me. My mom is actually pretty good at recognizing g1s. :)

Nice idea! I've had my family well trained for years, but I do need to education friends and co-workers. :)

Thanks, everyone!

I understand! If it was me writing, I probably would have done the same with g4s, mentioning them but without a picture. In any case, super nice little guide ^^
