Title: Show me your deflocked So Softs!
Post by: Sukey on July 28, 2015, 04:48:51 PM
So Softs really aren't my thing, but there are so many bright and pretty looking So Softs that are covered up with flocking. I saw one recently and thought to myself wow, that pony looks so good without the flocking- I had never seen that pony without flocking and it was like a new undiscovered pony to me. So now I am very curious to what other deflocked So Softs look like. I want to see what I am missing! :D

I've always admired Twilight and Angel as a deflock! I'm about to attempt my first with a Magic Star that looks like she has mange.

Very nice pics so far, love that Cupcake!

This was not as much a deflock as a fullblown restoration. Her condition were so bad when I got her, she needed new hair and symbolpaint as well. My first restoration project and I love her to bits.

Your Twilight is a beautiful restoration Beldarna. Your so lucky to have her. :lovey:

Wow! Get a load of Shady! Hasbro had to have made her flocked so they wouldn't be hit by multi lawsuits for blinding millions of kids.

Here's my shining star! I found her hiding under some clothes at a garage sale with
frizzy hair and filthy flocking.
I paid someone on here to deflock her cuz I was sick of crying every time I looked at her.  :P

I was never able to find Jasco either.  I use very hot water for getting most of the flocking off and then pure acetone on non-painted areas and rubbing alcohol on painted ones to remove the glue residue and any remaining flocking.

I'm slowly gathering upgrades (or downgrades if I find them) of my so softs so I can have a deflocked sister for each so soft I own.  Not sure if I'll ever be able to get another Crumpet, so she may have to wait a looooong time  ^.^
I just couldn't bear the thought of getting rid of my childhood ponies as I got upgrades, so giving them a new lease on life after getting rid of all the nasty flocking seemed like the best idea!
Loving the pics!  I'll upload mine as soon as I can!

I did my second deflock yesterday and it was so much easier than what I attempted years ago. Years ago I tried just using nail polish remover and that was a nightmare. I read someone's tutorial and used the oxiclean and boiling water and scrubbed the flock off with a toothbrush. After I used nail polish remover to get any spots that didn't come off. Here are the before and after pics-

Your Twilight is a beautiful restoration Beldarna. Your so lucky to have her. :lovey:

Wow! Get a load of Shady! Hasbro had to have made her flocked so they wouldn't be hit by multi lawsuits for blinding millions of kids.

Deflocked Shady is really quite tame in comparison to the UK release of Shady, who wasn't flocked and who really does put new meaning into the word 'neon' :) Clearly Hasbro in Europe didn't care about blinding kids, but it might explain her psychadelic personality and her hallucinogenic sunglasses...

The only deflocked pony I have is Ribbon at the moment, and I don't have a picture of her to hand, but she is stunning. Lofty, Ribbon and Paradise appeared in the UK somewhat but never got sold here, and since we didn't properly have SS ponies here, I always wanted nss versions of them. I got my grail thanks to Bibi (Brazilian Paradise) but Brazilian Ribbon is not a unicorn, so she's not the pony I imagined as a child. The deflock fills that gap and one day I will have a Lofty too, to go with.

I would really like to get more deflocks but I don't want any deflocks of ponies that look the same as their UK counterparts. I think there were a lot of frauds in the early days, when the UK Movie ponies were a lot harder to get online, with people deflocking North Star, Buttons etc and trying to pass them off as UK originals. I don't think it matters as much now as it did, thankfully, but there is still that risk with Cupcake and with Truly, so my deflock wantlist will definitely stick only to those ponies that do not have either a NSS version, or their NSS version is different enough not to cause confusion.

It's why I'm glad the US version of WW has all pink symbols, so there can be no confusion with the blue/pink symbolled European/UK version. (I also really like the blue that the deflocked WW is, compared to the pale blue of our release, which is nice but not so nice if the pony has faded hair)

Twist is the one that looks the most amazing to me, but so does Hippety Hop. Those are definitely high on my wants for deflocks in the future, if I ever get a pony in the right condition (though I'd have to commission it. I have no skillz >.>)

IMO, they all look so much better without the flocking. To me, flocking always looks dirty and grubby. The colors underneath are so vibrant!

When I did mine, I boiled it with oxiclean for couple minutes, then I turned the burner on my stove to low. Using a toothbrush I scrubbed a lot around eyes and symbols. While I was working on the head, I still had the body in the oxiclean water on the stove. I kept putting them back in the water and scrubbing some more until almost all the flocking was gone.

Deflocked Fifi is one of my favorites, which probably has a lot to to with the fact that I love her baby, firsttooth, version haha

A part of me wishes for a deflocked Magic Star, she's my favorite pony and I'd love her in an alternate pose

I really love a lot of the so soft releases. I really want to get them in a nice condition, but its also really nice to pick up a ss that is pretty down on its luck and give it a new lease on life!
I'm currently working on a Scrumptious. She's all deflocked, now I'm just waiting on getting hair so I can rehair her. Someone gave her a nasty mane and tail cut. :(

I used to dislike So Soft's when I started collecting. But now I love them to bits! :) I just needed to find them with perfect flocking.
I wanted a defrocked Lofty as  mommy to my brazilian baby Lofty, but when I removed the flocking I realized that she is just to bright yellow to match the baby. I have always loved Lofty because she has that nice soft yellow color.

So my baby has a So Soft  Lofty as her mommy now. :)

It occurs to me that the phrase "I'd love do deflock a Crumpet" only makes sense in the MLP fandom. XD Outside of the fandom it sounds so bizarre.
