I found a bunch a great baits at the fair last weekend! Many of them have mold or cancer, which I have never personally painted over. Are there any defects that end up coming through a coat of paint? Does bad smooze show as a texture through paint?

the only thing I've ever seen / had issue with is reeeeeeaaaaaaallllly bad pindot. If the "pores" becomeenlarged due to pindot, they may still be seen even with a FBR. however, you can still do the FBR, and it will still be an improvement ;)

With pin dot, if you go over it with a dullcote or whatever you use as a sealer, it will help too. So do lots of coats of paint.

Thanks so much for the advice! I may try to sand the pin dot a little to see how that affects it. If not, the advice of adding several coats sounds like it could help a lot.

I found that regrind can show through sometimes. The pony was painted green (was blue) and the regrind spots seem to make the green paint turn yellow  I've repainted over those places two or three times, but the yellow marks eventually work their way to the top again.
Kinda given up on that pony now!
