Do any of you have ponies you'll never get rid of, even though they aren't your favorites, because they were a gift?
-
Yes, I actually just received a "Day of the Dead" custom pony as a "congrats on your new job" gift, but she a G3 mold, and I only collect G1. She would have been so perfect as a G1!!!!
My friend doesn't get the difference, but it's very nice she tried ^.^

I have a huge fakie that was given to me by the mother of a very sick chiled that I knew she passed away at age 5 and its very meaningful. Anyone who knows me knows that fakies arn't my norm but that's not the point ;p
-
A *very* bait couple of ponies: the white Bluebelle with half her nose missing, that was given to me for my army by kitkatvintage, and a childhood gift; my friend star lost some ponies of mine and to try to make up for it, she found me a Starflower...who is so faded even the chartreuse part of her hair is pale! She also has such bad rust that one side of her is grey, but even if I had to sell my whole collection, those two would stay. :)

I keep any pony who is a gift :) I have some cute G3s who I would not normally have hanging out in my collection but they were a present from my mum years ago (when they were on shelves) and that Sunnydaze especially has a special place in my heart.
-
Yep, I'm sentimental like that. I've a few gift ponies I don't see leaving my herd any time soon, even if they're doubles, because a friend cared enough to buy me ponies. ^.^

I have a few rare ponies that a best friend bought me. They are not going anywhere besides I have got ponies from trades and swaps. I haven't bought all of them. I have Mimic and Alternate Birthflower September, and a bunch of Merry go round ponies from her. Needless to say they are so pretty and I wouldn't trade them for the world.
I also have a big book of notes and cards that pony people have given me over the years and that book will go to my daughter. I want her to have it as a keepsake. Collecting is a long road but a great journey for me. :)

Yep! For sure! :D

I have a few g3's I've received as gifts, as well as g4 plushies.

A friend found a G3 Bow-Tie for me at a car boot sale, which I would have kept anyway because of the sentiment, but it also happened to be an accidental upgrade to one I had with some pink marker spots. There are some that have come in swaps, of course, but I don't necessarily view those the same way unless there is a special meaning attached or if it was a private trade/swap. I have received some totally amazing and unexpected ponies in RAOPKs as well, mainly from two of my best arena friends, Marigold and Shenanigans. I feel spoiled beyond belief to know these two amazing girls. And lastly, I have the cutest ever G1 baby custom that was gifted to me by one of the most talented customizers I know. I shall keep her name anonymous, but if she reads this I hope she knows I mean her.
So, yes, these ponies will be with me always. ^.^

My best friend's two childhood ponies. They're pretty beat up and have bad hair and they were never my favorites, but I'll always keep them because it holds memories of our long-lasting friendship and they're very dear to me :)
-
I will always keep the ponies I got in swaps since I've had two such lovely swap partners from over the pond. They include Night Glider and Starflower which I would never part with anyway, and also June Rose, my birthflower pony. I will also keep the ones given to me by my sister. I have a spare Gypsy so I may give Gypsy back to her at some point, since she kept a few others.

I could never part with any of my ponies that were gifts from friends. :)

All of them. Not just because they were a gift, but also because I happen to like them a lot.

My first best friend in secondary school bought me a G3 cotton candy as a christmas present. We plaited her hair that day and even 3 years later, she still sits happily among my herd. I won't ever get rid of her. I'm still friends with that girl today c:

Any pony I received from a swap is one that stays in my collection. Also, any pony made for me by a pony friend or for a swap stays. Other than that my collection is a pretty fluid thing.
-
I have many things and ponies I received in private swaps from tulagirl (who no longer posts here). I consider her a really good friend and I could never part with anything she has given me.
-
Backstroke. She was given to Baby Quackers by a friend of hers in school because she didn't want her (she didn't collect) Now she is the only sea pony we own and she went from baity, ratty-haired to near-mint, silky-maned beauty
Oh, and some ponies from a friend in the TP (Two friends, actually :))

the 158 ponies my mum nainy and taidy gave for my origanal child hood herd as they have all passed now the ponies have memories attached to them so i wouldent ever sell them xaflame
