I'm in the middle of cleaning all my G3 ponies and it's been fine... until today. I wasn't watching what I was doing while brushing Baby Tea Lily and when I looked I was shocked to find clumps of hair and little pieces of it coming away as the light wind blew at it! It just seems to be the pink. I checked the other Avon ponies and each of them has brittle hair - just the pink and orange though.
Here's a pic. You can see the part where the hair broke off at the roots and the top pink section where I just pressed it gently and it went!

I'm guessing there's nothing that can be done - so I suppose I'll have to rehair them!
I've also just found baby Romperooni from the Super Long Hair bonus sets has this problem too!
-
Those colors are really prone to breaking sadly, I've never heard this set escaping it. I've always wondered what it was about that color that did it.
-
Yeah, I remember buying those when they first came out and even new out of the package they had terrible hair! :/
-
Yeah, everyone was pumped about the avon ponies until they help them in hand. Everyone hated the hair =/ Obviously, is doesn't age well. I cried over my Jazz Matazz as the hair fell out in clumps (she's my New Orleans/Mardis Gras Pony) and I still have her with me, awaiting the rehair she so desperately needs. I always loved her colors and theme so it broke my heart when it began to happen. Sadly, its just inevitability. I think all of them are just going to end up bald.
-
Yeah those Avon ponies were trouble from the get-go. :(
-
My tea lily is the same :P She doesn't have any pink hair left anymore :P
-
Thanks for the info. I've had them since new and never noticed any problem with their hair and I don't remember hearing about their hair at the time.
I've also found Green Apple and Sunrise with this problem now.
-
I've never noticed that on my Tea Lily before. I'll have to check. Thanks for the bringing this to my attention.
-
Does anyone know if the three pack Tea Lily has the same problem? I don't have her to check.
-
Yep, the Avon ponies and the Dollar General ponies are just AWFUL in the hair department.
-
Does anyone know if the three pack Tea Lily has the same problem? I don't have her to check.
Yeah it does, they were all the same =/
I want to chime in that my Sunrise has silky smooth hair and has absolutely no hint of breakage or damage o.o Can anyone confirm that this a problem with her? She's a favorite of mine and the idea of her hair doing this is not a notion I'm ready for
-
I also have had this trouble with comet tail - I've had two now with hair rot in the bright pink sections in both mane and tail... it's so sad, they're otherwise such nice ponies!
-
Do rehairs using the same color also break, or is that color not available to buy anymore?
-
Do rehairs using the same color also break, or is that color not available to buy anymore?
Rehairs usually come down to match ups, so it's not the same hair that hasbro uses, so it would not be prone to such breakage. :)

Oh, that's good to know. It would be so sad to have it fall out again!
-
I've never heard of this dilemma before, but it makes sense. My Avon girls have always had dry, frizzy hair but I haven't encountered it falling out yet. Thanks for the warning! I guess I'll just have to be extra careful and plan on rehairing eventually. :(

Oh, right - it's just I had a Peach Surprise in my sales box for a long time and never noticed any of her hair breaking. although it seems to be just the orange stripes in hers that are breaking.
My Sunrise might be a bad batch? Here's hoping. I took a pic for you. You can see at the bottom how it's broken off where I pressed it against my nail.

Dear Lord no, I adore this pony to pieces O_O I guess I'm going to be a bit obsessive about checking her now... I just packed her up and saw no issues but maybe I got lucky? *doubts it, pony tantrum*
This is disheartening. At least I know how to rehair in case worst comes to worst but this is such a gorgeous pony and I'm particularly fond of her....
I wonder if anyone else has noticed this on their Sunrise. We should take a list of the ponies who've had this happen to them. I knew about the Avon ponies but not Comet Tail or any of the other girls!
I'm going to go cry now...

Hello
Has anyone had there two Avon ponies with the red hair fall out and the rest of the hair stay completely intact? I literally picked up the pony and "petted her" Yes I petted her softly... and her hair comes off.....
I brought some hair that match the red hair all ready. my sister is going to talk to the Avon seller where she got it from see if I can get a refund. but if I don't get a refund that's ok too.
Thank goodness I have a rerhairing tool.

That's not good...I don't think I have any of the Avon ponies, but if I get one....I guess this is good to know?
-
I just posted something like this happening to my avon red haired ponies a few minutes ago... didn't mean to make a double post about the subject. well now I know there are people having the same problem. How sad.... or awful that this happens to them. well I just brought new hair and it should be coming in the mail next week. :D hope the rehairing goes well for you and me. I'm just a bigginer so at least I have a rehair tool that I can practice with.
-
That's awful! I had no idea they were such bad quality :(
-
This isn't the first time I've heard of the Avon ponies' hair breaking, but have we decided it's the colors of hair that causes it? The dye specifically, or did Hasbro use a different kind of hair for these ponies? That's really awful... What a shame.
-
I have heard about this on multiple occasions... But thankfully my Jazz Matazz has not yet been effected. I would be very heart-broken!
-
I was wondering if the hair was more cheaply made or from a different source? Since another two are discount store ponies. Very little of my Peach Surprise's hair is brittle, at the moment anyway so for her it seems to be colour specific too. So yeah, I have no idea really :)
-
Ok thanks.

YES!!!
I bawled when I took my Family Dollar "Avon" ponies out and her hair just started falling out! The value of that set is now ruined. I'm still glad I have them but I don't know when I will ever get the time/money to get them rehaired.
Now that read the orange is doing it too I am afraid to check them again....
-
I didn't know about this, this is awful D: Is there any way to prevent it, or is it inevitable?

No in my opinion her hair just deteriorates.
For anyone who has not had there avon pony hair fallout yet... i would definetly suggest taking a pic of the ponies hair now before it does falls out. So if the hair does fall out you can re hair the pony accurately. ; )
-
Aw man, this is such a bummer. I recently bought Peach Surprise and Tea Lily (still in the package) because I love the color combinations (that peachy orange) so much, but I kinda noticed their hair didn't feel as nice as the other two G3s I own... I was going to try and lightly style them, but now I'm worried it'll ruin their hair. I'm glad I stumbled on to this though, otherwise I wouldn't have known until it was too late. :<
-
I've just found another pony with brittle hair. Baby Romperooni. She was the one from the Super Long Hair pony two pack. I was quite surprised considering the others have been special releases of time sort.
-
That's terrible! Quality control Hasbro c'mon!

Well I'm rehairing the small baby avan and the adult with a brighter red watermelon martini and unlucky clover wich is greener.
-
Unfortunately this has been an issue for a few years now :( Any of the cheaper store exclusives as well as any of the ponies with the neon pink or orange or green hair are prone to this rotting issue. Its so frustrating!
-
>_< come on everyone its not the end of the world.I for refuse to stop geting a bunch of ponys just
from whats said here.and if look you at other topics you will see a few that are in good shape.I say we can try to find why it happens and try to stop it I just a pony with a little dry hair and its just fine gloon and doom topics where you say so many ponys are like this DOES NOT HELP.
-
I will have to take a look at my Baby Tea Lily...
-
I'm hoping this post is more informative than moaning. If people would like to check their own ponies then it's up to them. The fact is that some people will find this problem and others will not. Perhaps there's a solution that isn't rehairing but until that time healthy discussion is all we have.
-
Yeah I was hoping for at least a definitive list of which ponies get it instead of "any of the cheaper store exclusives".

Yeah I was hoping for at least a definitive list of which ponies get it instead of "any of the cheaper store exclusives".
Unfortunately it is as generic as that. It was any ponies from the cheaper lines then any with the neon pink hair, then it was neon oranges and greens, and now its pretty much any shade of pink. As time passes we are seeing it on more ponies and more one off instances on ponies. So instead of it being "only x pony, y pony and z pony" it does seem to be more and more reports of single cases.

So has this also been shown to affect pink haired ponies that are in mainstream lines? Like Sno Glo? What about ones that are discount store ponies but don't have those colors in their hair, like Starbeam II?

I'd had a Tea Lily and Peach Surprise MIP since they first came out, and a few weeks ago, my girlfriend completely cleaned and organized my bedroom, including my ponies. She decided it was a good idea to open the package for the avon ponies, unbeknownstly, to "save up space". She had no idea the worth, or the reasons behind they were even there. I know she didn't know any better, but I'm still upset about it...
Since I finally remembered she did that, I found where she put them, and my Tea Lily has no pink hair in her mane, and her tail has pieces falling off and still do. I knew the hair was fragile, but not to this extreme. Poor Tea Lily is half bald.... :(

For me the most concerning thing about this is the sheer number of G3 on the second hand market which are literal time bombs for hair loss. Much as it is heartbreaking and devastating to happen to a collector's pony, esp a much loved one, what terrifies me is the potential for kids to pick these up at a second hand sale and have the hair come off when they are simply playing with them. I almost think it an issue Hasbro should not only be aware of but helping to resolve, since it's a disaster waiting to happen.
Just hoping that the cheaper G4 currently on release in the US are not rooted with similarly brittle hair, too...

It seemed to start or at least be worse with the budget lines but recently I have seen mention of the lighter pink shades in the main stream releases. :(

She's been in a plastic bag in a closet for probably 4 years. I won't comb her hair. Tugged on it a little seems to be holding up for the time being. Now I do have her in her own baggie within the bag for the future.

Yikes, I hadn't thought about this occurring to G4s in the future. I seriously hope that the bad hair has been put out of production by now.

Hasbro's not going to do anything about it - toys don't come with warranties, and as long as they outlive the expected use cycle (which is maybe a few years, for most toys these days) parents won't complain and thus it doesn't affect their bottom line. In fact, toys that wear out may well improve it, since it incentives buying new ones rather than passing on older toys. That said, I doubt it was a deliberate planned obsolescence choice by Hasbro, but rather a cost cutting measure. Cheaper materials keeps their profits up.
G4 is likely to have /more/ issues than G3, and those issues will show up sooner. We've already seen plenty of evidence of this.
