I started out as G4 fan- "Brony", who only collected the Funko figures. My fiance has a gigantic G4 brushable collection that I've been determined to help her 'complete' so I started looking online and joined groups and forums. Long story short, seeing all other Gens of pony made me appreciate them a lot more than I had before, so I recently started collecting G1...and now I'm thinking I might take up G3...
I've noticed that Applejack is present throughout many Gens, and that G3 has many of the "mane 6" from G4, as well as some "background ponies"
Those of you who've spent a lot more time researching and collecting than I, who are all of the G4 named/themed ponies present in other Gens?
This collecting thing has become dangerous.... :P

There's very many.
Skywishes, Minty, Starswirl, RainbowFlash...., All of the mane six ponies were inspired by gen one ponies. Rarity=Sparkler, Firefly=RainbowDash, Posey=Fluttershy, Twilight= Twilight Sparkle, Surprise= PinkiePie, And of course Apple Jack.
There's a lot of re-imaginings of previous generation ponies in Generation 4.

Alot of the g4 blindbags I noticed are based around g3s as well which is always fun!

At least in the mini-size world you'll find plenty of cross-overs. There was a whole set made in 2012 called "Pinkie Pie & Friends" which featured Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Kiwi Tart, Seascape, Star Dasher, Dainty Daisy, Periwinkle, Applejack, Rarity, Waterfire, Pick-a-lily and Rainbow Swirl, and the Blind Bag line has plenty too. :) It would be fun to get all of the cross-gen minis and display them with their bigger counterparts :silly:

I don't think there was a G3 toy of Spike (correct me if I'm wrong!) but he showed up in at least one of the videos! Part of the reason I love the blind bags is because I love seeing ponies from the earlier generations pop up, and seeing them re imagined as other species is cool, too, like unicorn Water Fire! Cupcake is another pony that has popped up as a toy in lots of generations. There has been a G1 Cupcake, a G2 Cupcake, a G3 Cupcake, and a G4 Cupcake! The only generation without one is G3.5 because that only had the core seven plus those mom ponies.

A simple one is Cheerilee, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle are all based on G3 ponies. Check out this page!

Those links are a great compilation of cross generational ponies, though I think there are a few more ponies that could be added.
I do have to say that I think G1 Glory should get some mention as an inspiration for Rarity in addition to Sparkler. And even though I know that Posy was supposedly the inspiration for Fluttershy, I can't help but think that Faust might have also had Dancing Butterflies in the back of her mind, too.
Also, the G4 breezies were inspired by the G3 breezies, though I don't know that any particular breezie character crosses over.
There is a BB called Sprinkle Medley (I think?) that looks a lot like G1 Medley.

Welcome to pony collecting! What a great way to learn more about earlier generations by looking for cross over.
I agree tracking down the G1 ponies who the G4 main 6 are supposedly based on is a great stepping stone for G1 collecting - so G1 Applejack, Posey, Firefly, Surprise, Twilight and Sparkler :)

Who is the G3 Twilight Unicorn there XD I'm not that well verse in picking the counterparts

I believe that is Twilight Twinkle.
The one thing about those pics is that the breeds are not quit accurate because they are re-colors of the G4 artwork. All of the G3 ponies pictured except Rarity are actually earth ponies. G1 Posey was an earth pony and G1 Surprise was a Pegasus ( which may explain the occasional error images showing Pinkie Pie with wings)

I love G1/G4 Crossovers just check out some of these! Some of these I made awhile back for fun :P Some are recolors so not the best quality although you get the point, hopefully this won't make you go further down the slippery slope haha I have more too feel free to check them out on my deviantart. (PS. I wish I would have but both Brighteyes and Starlight on Twilight AJ does not fit in Tales really)

Fire Fly-though the original name of that Aerial bot is Fire Flight
Sea Spray
those are the only ones I can think of atm, its to be expected really, when you pump out that many toys you tend to forget which names you may have already used and may like a name enough to re-use it elsewhere. :cool:

I did the same thing, I went for the mane 6 on their g3 and g1 ponies :) and when I looked into G2 I only Saw 2 at first for them , like Sky skimmer for Fluttershy and Ivy for Rainbow Dash but then I got to learn more about them and found all of them within the Gen 2 as well ,either by color scheme or character on the comics and back card stories/profiles :)
RD = Ivy ( as the rd g3 she is the fashionista and kinda same color scheme)
Fluttershy = Sky skimmer (color combo)
AJ =could be Bright Bramley (apple symbol)
Rarity = Diamond Glow Magic (same color combo)
Twily = DragonFly Magic ( color scheme)
Pinkie = SweetBerry (they are both bakers and pink :))
But as the generation 3 and 4 have a core 7 or mane 6 group of ponies
G2 also had their Favorite 6
these ponies got releases in mostly every pose and variation
the following ponies had from 6 to 8 releases within the G2
Ivy
Light Heart
Sky Skimmer
Sweet Berry
SunSparkle
Morning Glory/Flora

I think of Flutterbye, name and butterfly symbol and species all fit but then that might have been Hasbro's inspiration for G3 Fluttershy and it all came from there too...
I agree 100% on Glory and Rarity. I would have guessed Glory was the inspiration if one of my ponymad students hadn't insisted on printing out the concepts for me!
