Title: Real ponies that seemed like fakies
Post by: Ackryllis on May 07, 2015, 06:03:17 AM
We all know that there are some strange nirvana variants that makes you think of a fakie, but how about the normal ponies?

I got fooled today by an Favorite Friend Sunny Daze today. She was really hard and didn't have that nice soft feel to her like every other g3 I've encountered so far. She's in a pose I don't think I've yet met so the size difference between the body and the head was off setting. And the symbol is really fakie material. So I didn't take her but maybe I'll snatch her tomorrow now that I know she's real.

Have you ever had an encounter like this before?

I have a g3 forsythia and when I first saw her I thought she was a fakie! She is just so exceptionally bright red and mine had rather terrifying hair, I thought she was a very interesting fakie! It didn't click until I got an actuall forsythia fakie in the same colours that she is indeed a real pony, I believe the fakie is a pegasus lol

I hope sunny daze is still there for you!

I remember when G3 Pepper Berry came out and was in packaging and body colours unlike any of the other ponies, there was a lot of talk as to whether she was legit or a fakie.

The Year 9 Princess ponies. What was Hasbro thinking with those eyelashes?

(right before I started getting interested in the older gen ponies since I came from the G4 line of toys) I was looking though a flea market I saw one of the sweetheart sisters and laughed how fake she looked until I looked under her to see the Hasbro text on her stomach  :ninja:

Definitely the princess ponies with the eyelashes, haha.  They look like eyebrows so much.  I think the G4 Pop ponies look a lot like fakies too, they just look so... kitschy!

>.> So regretfully cheap.... and yet I still buy them. What's wrong with me?

UK Princess Sparkle.  I thought this girl was a fake for years.  She still doesn't feel very MLP to me for some reason.

I thought my UK variant tail-less Romper (happy tails pony) was a fakie, so I donated her in a shoebox to a child during the one of the Balkan conflicts.

Serves me right for not giving her one of my good ponies.

Yup, gotta agree with you on that one.  They're quite small, and they're even more expensive than the G3's.  At least I've noticed that they're about $1 to $3 more than the G3 line.

I bought several, but only to customize and I've found out they're not even fun to customize!

I thought Little Flitter was a fakie when she turned up in an Etsy listing, then I found out about Summer Wing ponies and they swiftly became one of my favourite sets (and that exact pony who confused me at first is now one of the favourites in my herd!) :D

Before I was all too knowledgeable about how much variety G1 had I thought a Sweetheart Sister I found at a thrift store was a fakie. Thankfully I decided to look under the hooves regardless of my suspicions otherwise I would have left Twinkler behind.

I love G4 to bits but I have to agree.

Also I think the reason they're more expensive is what makes them a pain to customize. The regular playfuls have that ridiculous plastic plug in their heads. X-X Just... why? So the head can turn? I thought that was possible without some chunk. Alicorn molds are also mostly solid, too. I like them but I still don't understand why they can't be hollow-molds like other ponies? Anyway, most of the plastic budget for each figure is probably wasted on solid bits where ponies in the past have gotten along just fine without it.

For me, pretty much all of the Family Dollar exclusive G3s seem like fakies to me.  Honestly, the three bonus ponies that came with the castle they sold on Black Friday in uh... 2007 (?) and the second 4-pack of the TRU G3s (or the one that has Flutter Butter in it) at a glance seem not authentic to me, too.

I'm in the same boat about G4s.  I'm not particularly crazy about them, but still buy them for some reason.  All of the G4Zillas look sort of fake to me, too :)

It was a confusing pony that first got me to look up ponies online: G1 colorswirl Springy.  I'd never seen a bride pose pony before, but I *knew* those were my little pony eyes, and it did say Hasbro on the hooves...

I was very confused when I first laid my eyes on a So Soft pony (Fifi) at my friend's place 12 years ago. There was a box on the floor which had his little sister's stuff in it, and I recognized the hoof shape sticking out of the box immediately (after all ponies were my favourite toys). So Softs were never sold here in Finland so I had no idea they existed, and obviously I couldn't see the stamps. My friend gave the pony to me, and then I realized I could try to check from the internet, although there probably isn't any pony stuff in there....I mean I must be the only adult with a pony collection.. You can probably guess where that lead..

Heh. When the big Brothers first came out, I thought they were fakies because they were so different. It took my best friend getting one to convince me they belonged with the rest of the ponies. (They were in stores before the Sonombula episode aired for me.) :silly:

My mistakes were thinking my water color sea ponies were fakes cause of the hair XD

Oh and when I found the big sleepy newborns with the bottle/duck as a kid in a second hand store, thought they were fake too. Glad I got them though =D

This is very close to what happened to me!  After I found G3s, I thought they were kid toys and nothing else and picked some up for nostalgia.  Then, I dug my childhood ones out of storage and realized that some needed restoration, so I ventured to the internet, expect to come up with nothing.  Landed myself here, and still haven't left ;)

The first time I saw G2s in stores, I thought they looked like fakes.

And the polybag G4s look extremely cheap because of their packaging.

Same here. Also even though I've never seen one in person, the Dream Beauties, they look more like Mattel horses or Fashion Star fillies then MLP. Gorgeous though and I'd love to have at least one.

Pina Colada for me. I saw her in a local listing, and the unusual bright (and not too coordinated) colours, paired with knowing there indeed are existing Crumpet pose fakies just didn't let me believe she's real. later I learned she was snatched up by another member here, and I don't really like her colours, so all is well, but back then I was kicking myself a little for not jumping on the listing with the awesome price she was offered for.

My daughter thought the Hair Do Pony Bangles we found at a thrift store was a fakie.  Good thing I study the books!  LOL  Though what a UK pony was doing in a thrift store in the US is beyond me.

Oh and when my daughter first started collecting G3's we had some G2's we though where fake till we got our first book on ponies.

I'll bet it's the hair... they don't really have enough plugs for how big their heads are!
