Title: A night at the movies
Post by: SourdoughStomper on May 02, 2015, 05:08:19 PM
 :soda:

I'm not sure what my favorite movie watching method is, but my typical way is to watch it on a tablet while laying down in bed in the evening. After that, my next choice would be watching it on TV.

I don't watch too often at a theater because a) too expensive b) they don't play movies I'm interested in.

I've had one IMAX experience, though, and it was pretty cool. I wouldn't mind doing it again someday.

Computer? Not too often because I usually am distracted by the compulsion to web surf and type stuffs. :arena:

My least favorite choice would be watching on a phone or otherwise small screen. :search: My eyes would murder me.

How's about you? :)

I'm the same as you Stomper. I love watching movies on my tablet in bed. Since we only have one tv in our house I often do it while my hubby watches all of the sports that he likes lol.

I like the cinema. Which is ironic, actually, considering for most of my childhood the noise/smells of the cinema was something I was afraid of. But now I love going.

I like watching on my TV too, though. Hate watching anything on PC. Tablet is ok, but TV is preferred if not at the cinema.

TV, we just inherited a speaker system so we can go LOUD.  Note to self: must check out how Vader sounds this way.
I also like watching Netflix on my Fire.  Mostly on mute and captioned as usually daughter/hubby is doing something as well.  Orange Is The New Black is best watched this way with a 9 yr old in the room.  ;)

I prefer to watch movies at home on my TV. For some reason, I always feel a bit phobic in theatres. I think because I'm always quite restless and fidgety. When I watch a film at home I'm always up and down in and out of the room. Need something to occupy my hands with too. Hard to do that in a theatre!

Usually I'll watch movies on my laptop or TV (using the PS3, normally) but I do enjoy the theater experience just because I love going with friends!

And I know this isn't an option, probably because Pennsylvania is one of the few places left with these, but the drive-in is probably my absolute favorite way to watch movies.  You can bring your own food, you get two movies for less than the price of one at the movie theater AND you can sit comfortably in the back of your car- my fiance has a car with a hatch-back so we just lift up the trunk door up, lay the back seats down, spread out a blanket with some pillows and get comfy.  Or you can set up a picnic outside!  We live five minutes away from a drive-in, so we do this a lot over the summer.

I got to experience a drive-in when I was a kid! Too bad I was too young to appreciate it fully, and also didn't know those days were ending as they fell out of favor. My first time was my last time. But it would be neat to go to one again. :)

^ I miss having a drive-in so much.  They are perfect in everything.

I love the movie theater but only if its a good movie.  If it's only so-so, it's frustrating to be trapped there.  My tie favorite is TV, only because it's still a good sized screen but I can also pause or end the movie whenever I want.

I can't watch a movie on my phone simply because I end up playing video games or surfing instead.   :P

I only like going to the movies as a social experience with friends or family. If I'm just going to watch it by myself I'd rather be able to stay in my jammies. I won't even bother going to the free movies in the student lounge if my friends aren't joining me. I hope I get a chance to go to the drive in with my family over the summer.

I love going to the theater, especially when I can go with my hubby.  :P Company is always great, but I've always wanted to experience what it is like to go by myself.
There is so much excitement and elegance about a theater, its intoxicating (and food is very over priced).

Second most favorite thing to do is hunker down and watch a good one on the TV. Very convenient, can eat lots of cheap food in the comfort of home.
A tie with the second is PC watching. I think I might be the only one who likes to watch stuff on their laptop.

I would love to try to watch stuff on a tablet, but I would never try something like that on my phone, I get way too many text messages.

I like going to the movies, but only for movies I'm super pumped about... Its just too darn expensive and there are very inconsiderate people who can ruin the whole experience (talkers, texters with their bright-ass screens etc.)
I'd much rather wait and watch the movie at home... We don't have a TV, but we do have a 9x11ft projection screen so its like being at the big screen

I am such a cinephile. I LOVE movies. I love good movies, I love bad movies. Bring 'em on.

My favorite way is to go to the theater. Especially since our theater had a major make-over recently and they have these huge, comfy recliners with TONS of elbow room and foot room. Its PERFECT. I love the trailers before the film and I love the energy of the audience, especially for opening day.

Even though we have surround sound and a new 65" 4K flatscreen (that I LOVE), I still adore the theater experience. We have a drive-in here in Oregon but I've never gone with my kids. I just imagine it being a fiasco with my boys (8 & 11) and its an hour drive away so I'd be driving back at 2 a.m.

(We saw Age of Ultron yesterday and it was AMAZING.)

I like a movie theater. I can't concentrate on movies at home usually, especially on a computer/mobile device. I can never just sit there and watch. Gotta be browsing online.

You can only vote for one? i'd pick the all of the above category.
well maybe not imax... they make me motion sick.

if you can watch it and hear it. then yes to all.
i've been slowly transfering all my library to digital, but it's taking a while because of the cost.
love having my favorite movies at my fingertips. mwhahahahaha

but i also believe in supporting the movies i enjoy, so if i really like it, i'll see it in theaters a few times.

I work at a movietheatre and we have a huuuge discount (I go for free as long as the screen don't get full) so naturally I go there as much as I can and even watch movies I would never consider if I had to pay. I even make hole days out of it and watch three to four movies in one go. It is nice to go with friends and boyfriend but I have no problem with going alone. For some films I kind of prefer it.

Second choice is at home on TV. I am a huge Netflixoholic and can easily take eight hours out of the day and just watch movies or a good series.

I would love to experience an IMAX but the closest one is in the UK. They are building one in Stockholm but it's still too far off and flying there just to watch a movie seems stupid.

I've watched a few movies and documentaries on my tablet and it works but I would never watch on my phone as the screen is too small. I occassionaly watch from my laptop but only if it's hooked to the TV so I get to see on a larger screen. I'm watching US Netflix this way.

I either watch them on the TV when I just want to focus on the film, or on the laptop if I'm after some background noise while working on something else. Cinemas are a major no-go, I just don't like the atmosphere at all; it feels very tense and unpleasant (then again, maybe I've just been to really rubbish cinemas!) XD

IMAX for sure! Me and my friends have a movie card, we can go to the movies as many times as we want in a month at our local theater, and we always choose the IMAX version if we have the choice! It's the best!

I absolutely love going to the movie theater. It's such a nice experience to watch a movie with many people and to be totally absorbed by it. It's just not the same at home. Plus, I just love popcorn ^^"

I chose TV, for that's how I watch movies most often. Especially now that movies are getting longer and longer, I enjoy watching them at home, where I can interrupt them as needed to get food, go to the bathroom etc.

I do enjoy going to the movies, but it's so pricey that I only do it a couple of times a year. I only go if there's a movie on that I'd really love to see and cannot wait till it's out on DVD. Plus, there are some movies that are simply nicer on the big screen ("Avatar" comes to mind).

Technically at the theatre but I haven't been able to go to one in years.

Otherwise I like watching them on tv.  I can pause whenever I need to and I don't have to stress out about the ride home^^

My favorite way is really just "any way that involves me and my best friend getting to sit down and watch a movie together" :P I voted "on my television" because it's great when we get to hang out and watch movies together in person (we live on opposite ends of the country), but honestly we're normally watching movies (or tv shows) together online.

Usually we watch movies at home on the computer - comfier, cheaper, and we can pause for breaks whenever we need (but no commercials). We do go out to the theatre sometimes (or the drive-in).

Theatre is good! If I want to watch a movie, it's nice to be able to go to a place, sit down, and have it all be about THE MOVIE with no distractions!

But TV at home is really nice too. Comfy sofa, snacks at non-ridiculous prices, pyjamas...
Unfortunately the TV here in my flat is old, the sound is half busted, and the screen is permanently pink tinted! So I only watch things on my laptop here. It's good enough, I guess!

I like them on my computer screen in a smaller window - that's easiest on my eyes.

I despise going to movie theaters. Too many people, too loud, and if you have to go to the bathroom you miss part of the movie. That's a big one for me, because I hate public bathrooms sooo much.

When I lived in Alaska, we went to the movies all the time - not really much else to do when its -40F outside but here, not so much. Although there is a seasonal Drive in theater. I like to go there as its 2 movies for $7 o it was. The probably raised the admissions fee since they went digital or whatever it was they did.

Otherwise, I want netflix on my laptop

We are still living with my in-laws while we get all the traveling out of our system and save for a house of our own, and they have a 'theatre' downstairs. Huge projector screen, surround sound, the works... and the tech box is a tardis - it's pretty epic. Who wouldn't love a tardis full of DVD's?!

Lol, I'm kinda glad that so far no one has chosen the phone option. I have always been baffled by the concept of buying a movie just to watch it on your tiny little phone! But that doesn't baffle me as much as that time Sony decided to make the PSP a device for watching movies... That you had to buy on a cartridge.

I answered my tv because though I go to the theater sometimes, I don't like the sticky floors and dirty chairs and all the other people (though occasionally opening night for a movie can be fun).

I love to watch movies at the theater. Hardly get to go, though. I don't really like watching movies on TV by myself. With others it's pretty fun.

And watching a movie on a computer is not fun at all.

I haven't been to the movies since Watchmen was out.  It's not that I can't afford to go, its that i have no one to go with.  And going by yourself just sucks.  My parents haven't been to the movies since Lion King...

I chose the "movie theater" option, but a close second is watching movies at home with a TV. I love going to theaters, but I try to go when a movie's been out for a while and it won't be too crowded. I also have a nice, newish, clean theater near me, so that's a blessing. I don't like to go alone to movies, either. I'm okay with watching them alone at home, but I'd rather have someone with me so we can add our snarky comments. :)

While I love the theatre /cinema I chose TV (specifically a DVD of a movie I love or am really interested in seeing rather than random movie showing).  No interruptions, no people talking through bits you wanna see, no people taller than you sitting in front, not being surrounded by tons of cell phone screens! (why have people got their cell phone on and are texting or surfing the web when they have just paid out a ton of cash to watch a movie!??!! )  plus its really expensive now - those are the things I hate about the theatre. If I do go then I go to a really late showing (10pm/midnight) when there is hardly anyone else around ;)

I voted "On my television" because that's generally true...I don't like going to the theater because there are too many people and they're loud and playing on their cell phones.  If i'm gonna pay that much to see a movie, I want it to be undisturbed.

But I LOVE the big screen...so my all-time fave way to see a movie is at the drive-in.  Big screen, in my own car with my fave snacks and nobody to bother me.

I usually watch movies on our TV (we have a fairly big screen and surround sound, so it's fun), but on occasion my hubs and I will go on a date to a movie.  But it has to be one that we really, REALLY want to watch for us to fork over the cash.  I think our average of seeing movies in theaters is about 2 a year.

I love the movie theater. Its sooooo close to where we live we usually walk there! I look forward to the popcorn the most- my movie theater has the BEST! Its not over-salted and doesnt taste like generic microwave popcorn-its PERFECT and i always drown in in the butter-flavor oil then toss some Crunch bar bunches into it! I always sit in the back middle of the theater. I LOVE the movies! Never been to an imax theater, but i saw a mpvie in 3D and almost threw up because of how dizzy it made me.

Movies i plan on seeing soon are.....
-Minions
-Avengers2
-Tomorrowland
-Jurassic World

I ocassionally watch movies on my tablet or phone, but only to pass time not so much to enjoy.

I do enjoy going to the theater so see movies sometimes, but I usually prefer to wait and watch them on my own tv. I have a hearing disability so I like to have the subtitles on. I know theaters have certain things you can request if you're hearing impaired, but I'd prefer not to draw that kind of attention to myself in a theater.

It depends on what the movie is.  We usually go see the super hero movies such as Thor, Captain America, Iron Man and Avengers, etc. in the movies first because of the special effects and sound, etc.  Some movies are best seeing in theaters first.  If we're just renting a movie to for something to watch we watch on our television on on demand or redbox or something we recorded on our dvr.

Tablet works best for me. I'm usually doing a couple things at the same time (surfing the internet, texting, doodling) so I can just move my tablet around to accommodate wherever I'm sitting. I do like going to the movies, but I probably only go twice a year or so. Usually I only go for movies I really want to see. I like that you get to see all the previews in the theater and I usually indulge in butter slathered popcorn. I used to be deathly afraid of movie theaters because I am not big on the loud noise and the dark. But I've gradually gotten over it. I still hate Imax movies though, it's just way too intense for me. I have tried watching movies on my phone but it's just the worst, haha!

At home on my television screen. Snuggling up with a blanket and a hot cup of choccy!

I would say cinema, but since most of the movies I watch are Disney... I just can't handle screaming during a movie. And it's too expensive anyway.

Can't beat watching a movie in the comfort of my home with whatever snacks I want that don't cost twice as much as a ticket.

However, our local theater does have a bar with food, and they'll let you take beer and food into the theater, and that's incredibly fun. My hubby and I don't do it much though, as it gets really pricey. Maybe a 3-4 times a year.
