Title: Weird Collector's Pose Flutterbye from Argentina
Post by: doxiechic16 on May 02, 2015, 07:32:22 AM
I recently purchased a Collector's Pose Flutterbye from a seller in Argentina on ebay.  I've bought from this seller before and the pony was a reasonably priced BIN so I impulsively bought her.

I couldn't find pictures of her on relceleste's Argentina page (one of my main sources for Argie eye candy) and I didn't see her pictured on the MLP Wiki or Strawberry Reef.

I just picked her up from the PO today, cleaned her up a bit, and took some photos.  She's sort of Applejack-like, perhaps more Butterscotch-like in appearance.  She has 82 Hasbro Pat Pend clearly stamped on one of her front feet and it looks like they started to stamp "HONG KONG" on her other front foot....you can VERY lightly see "HONG" if you hold her just the right way in the light, but I couldn't get it to show up in pictures.

Can someone tell me more about her?  Is she an oddity or factory error of some sort?

That's one of those "after market" ponies. Someone in Argentina got ahold of the original stencils for several different symbols. These ponies are made from less valuable ponies (often Cotton Candy, Snuzzle, Bluebelle, ect.) with their original symbols removed & new symbols applied. They used to be sold with titles like "RARE" "OOAK". It looks like your pony was originally a Butterscotch. Some people like to collect these ponies while others do not. It's hard to place a value on them since they have a shady background, but since some collectors do really like them their value can be all over the place.

Yes I was going to say she looks like one of those shady "home made" ponies. She's very pretty though I really like her!!

Thank you for the info, kitkatvintage!  I knew there had been some ponies of questionable origins floating around Nirvana-land (faked Colombians and ponies that had been discovered to be rehaired come to mind), but I didn't realize there were After Market Argies lurking about!

I guess I'll comfort myself with the fact that at least she's a cute, sketchy little pony.  ^.^

I agree that regardless of the origins she is really beautiful!

I think she's neat. Like a shady little piece of pony history :)

She is so pretty!

There are quite a few of these "home made" ponies floating about and they are neat even though they are not official.

They have their own folder in the nirvana gallery ;)

Interesting! So I wondered, on this page on strawberryreef, some of these are not confirmed?

That's right - some of them on that page are some of the 'After Market' Argies (love that description of them :) ). I can also see a few on that page that may be rehairs as well, which was another thing frequently done by some of the Argentinian sellers ('Repaired the hair.')

Oh wow, is baby Posie on that Argie page real? She is just gorgeous but I've never seen her before!

There are quite a few unconfirmed ponies shown on that page :)

Please check the nirvana gallery as all unconfirmed ponies are either marked or in their own folder :)

Strawberry Reef is an awesome quick ref site for images, but there are a lot of accuracy issues with some of the G1 information. I noticed the other day that ponies that have long since been proven to not be sold in the UK are still listed there based on DV's original errors (White Tootsie, Cupcake, Yellow Moondancer, etc), so I guess it just proves how important cross-referencing is...

I find it sad that people fake ponies to try and generate money. It happened years ago with a whole slew of reverse Gusty customs and deflocks on Truly and Cupcake, and rumours about a white haired Posey variant in the UK. I guess Nirvana is so pricey these days it's a prime place to target, but it's still sad.

I think the pony is really cute though. Shady or not, the colour tones work well together :D The most important thing really with anything collectorish is whether you like her or not. So long as you do, that's what's most important.

One of the reasons I stopped buying any ponies from Argentina for my Personal Collection, way too much customizing coming from down there.  I have to agree with Taffeta about cross referencing sites, especially sites that people use to authenticate something.  The sites have there uses but it's always good to check with the community.

She's cool! And she is technically from Argentina so it's pretty cool :)
