Title: My MIP G1 Ponies- finally out of storage and into the light!
Post by: Taffeta on March 26, 2015, 02:20:06 PM: So it's been a really long time since I got my MIP ponies out last, but today I kinda had no choice, since today I added the first new MIP to my collection in aaages. This is a kinda double brag post for that reason (although it's more of a wanting to share...xD) because today I got this in the post:

When I was eight or nine, I had Starflash as a present at Christmas. I knew she had come in a box, and had had a pinkish coloured comb, but for the most part the ones I saw online were only the US release ones on card. Collecting MIP versions of ponies I had as a kid has always been one of my collecting aims, but they have to be in the right packaging, so that makes it tricky, UK packages are often much more difficult to locate! Finally I tracked down a Starflash in the UK box I remember as a kid. The trouble is, to get her into my cupboard, I had to take the others all out. SO while I did that, I figured I might as well take some photos....since it'll probably be a while before they see the light of day again!

I downsized my mint in package collection a few years ago, and I counted 70 this time, including Starflash. Many of them are in UK packaging, since that's my 'nirvana', in a sense, and some are in European packaging. Some are US as well, so it's a mixture, but they're all G1.

I am still convinced I have Watercolor Wavedancer somewhere, MOC, but I cannot find her, so maybe I traded her off. I can't think why I wouldve done that, being as I kept the others, but...who knows. I did also find a couple of ponies I never knew I had...which was a nice surprise!

As I said before, these are kinda like my version of nirvana, since the UK's pony history is the thing I'm most obsessed with and always has been xD.

The greek packaging -some years ago, maybe ten now? A whole bunch of Seven Character ponies and ponies like it were on Ebay from Greek sellers, as end of line stock from the nineties. If I remember right the packaging was special to do with easter. They also have a candle. Someone who reads Greek might be able to say more.

The twins...I always wanted Nibbles and Dibbles as a kid but never got them. The Italian box is unique though, sadly not the same as the UK.

@Ponycake, I like the US cards too, but the UK ones are part of my childhood so will always come first to me ;) I generally see the US cards and names as the variations because I came across them much later! I do adore tge older US ponies on card, though, like Glory etc or the So Softs which weren't properly sold here.

Ah, that's so cool! I would really love to see pictures of your collection sometime!

I haven't yet been persuaded to part with any of my UK mip ponies since I'm a pretty sentimental person and the early ones especialky conjure up those memories of childhood. You're real lucky having the others xD.

@Cricket, a bunch of them came up on ebay about ten years ago -Gusty, North Star etc. The card I have is in French and they are called Movie Star Ponies but although the UK card is the same, we don't seem to use that set name which I think is a shame. The card is definitely one of the prettiest...

It is a nice goal but unfortunately I am cursed with the fact 3 of my childhood ponies are Mountain Boys...sigh xD. And looking for them in the right package is also hard since, logically, most Mip ponies around are on US card...

Definitely did find some treasures going through, though. I hadn't realised I aleeady had Sunshower and so only need Ripple, rather than both.

It's so much harder to find the UK/Euro packages for the early ones. :-/ It makes me regret especially having UK exclusive ponies as a kid, too ><. My wallet cannot cope ><.

I agree! I just was looking at old pics with Mum and we found a photo from that Xmas of Dad holding Starflash up to toast instead of his wine glass XD. Made me very nostalgic :)
