So, I have decided to increase my G1 collection, but I really feel I must have a Mimic. How exactly does a person get a Mimic here? What is the bidding strategy or price I need to pay to get her? I hope someone can help me with this here and resolve it.

Mimic is popular but not really THAT uncommon. Her current price seems to be anywhere from $60-100 depending on condition. The best way to get one is to be patient. I prefer to buy from Arena members and not mess with all the bidding nonsense. You might be able to snag one that someone is selling for a set price because it has some flaws. If you aren't going for super mint, keep your peepers peeled here on the Arena and you can probably find one within a year.
I've been collecting for 20 years so I'm all about slow and steady!

With patience. :) She does pop up quite frequently here on the arena sales too, so keep your eyes open!

You have to sell your soul, a couple of limbs and maybe an internal organ or two that you could hopefully live without. Just kidding! :p
She's pretty expensive, if you've got the dough you can wait till you find one, or if you wanna go a cheaper route you could customize/get someone else to customize one for you.

Ebay :P Patience and a willingness to drop around the $90 mark and she will be all yours! Have fun on the search and good luck tracking her down.

Patience and $$. I bought mine here and the lovely lady I bought her from did payments. After the last payment, Mimic came home and my daughter fainted. (pretend)

I found my Mimic in a large lot of ponies several years ago, she was hiding and could barely be seen :D
Sadly she's got a mohawk a symbol rub and mold, but oh well.

^ This is how I bought mine, and in the end only paid $13 for her. She has a scratch on her DS symbol, and her pink has faded, but she's still lovely.

That's all I've been getting lately was dumb auctions ever since I've started following the search, either that or obnoxiously priced BINs 6_9
Until 1 night at 2:19 am (CST) ,I was awake when I got an email from eBay stating a Mimic has popped up for $119 BIN...my jaw dropped because that was in my price range, but the problem was I had already spent my money on other things >_< I was ticked off :mad: I couldn't ask my boyfriend because he was sleeping ,so I turned to ANOTHER person who was awake during the same time I was....my German penpal :lol: I explained to him that this was one of my grail ponies and how annoyed I was that I couldn't get her MYSELF, so I asked him to buy her for me and he did ^.^ (heck he saved up enough money to come visit me, so why not? :P)
And now I have her :) I still find pretty cool that my friend is willing to spend that much money on me :blush: and for a pony for that facg X_X

Mimic is kinda high right now and has been going for insane amounts. I'm also on the look out for a Mimic (she's the last te I need). I say just be patient. She pops up quite often but is also sought after so that drives prices up as well.

Yup like everyone else has said. She's the last of this set for me as well. I'm going with a someday I will find her (in maybe 5 years...).

Be patient. I found mine for a good price on here because she wasn't perfect.
If you wait long enough you will find a cheap lot or a good BIN.

I was really lucky with Mimic, since it was the first pony trade I did online and at the time I had no idea that she was so problematic to get, because she wasn't sold over here. I traded one of the rarer UK ponies for her, I think, and I basically asked the other person what she wanted for it and let her choose what she thought a fair trade would be, so I didn't know she was tricky. I just knew I really wanted one O.o.
BUT after that time I found one at a local carboot sale for about £1, which should NOT happen in the UK!
And I think I had one other Mimic in my time running my pony shoppe in a lot of ponies I bought for some complete other pony, and she turned out to be quite saleable. I think I got $60 for her.
The bottom line with looking for Mimic is that it could be fluke luck, but, at the same time, it might be that you can increase your odds of finding her for a lower price by doing less specific searches on ebay. Instead of searching "Mimic" try "green pony with parrot" or "parrot my little pony" or "pony with gem eyes" or all kinds of different variations. Some people do not bother to look up names, and those ponies can go for a lower price. Also, as someone else said, look out for the BINs. I remember someone getting a MOC Baby CJ for $30 because of one of them. It's all about timing xD
That said, it's harder to do that these days because of the pictures on the left of the links. It is much easier now to see what is in a lot without clicking on it. Still, though, be patient and persevere. She is WELL WORTH the getting, but make sure when you get her, you pay the price YOU are happy with, and she is in the condition YOU want her to be.

I watched her for awhile on a website where I buy toys from and figured I couldn't afford her. So I would just look at her every so often. I ended up going to a comic con one year and this girl had one for $70, but her head and body were slightly different colors and I could not deal with that. After seeing her in person, I wanted her more than I did before. So I contacted the girl with the website and because I ordered more toys she gave me a discount. I think I ended up getting her for $60. She has some small flaws, but they are ones that I can overlook. I am quite happy with her.

There, you will fight rabid parrots for days, until you are seen to be the winner.
From there, you are flown by the ugliest parrot to a rubber volcano, where you will both plunge into the depths, and be made into a Mimic Pony.

I was lucky I guess, If she wasn't a set-completer I would have ignored her. Even so, I paid $70 (at a time she was fetching $150 plus)and she developed a bleach-mark on her hind leg from remove-zit AFTER she arrived...the person I got her of was banned from her not long after anyway. I must say she is WAAAAAYYYYY prettier than any photo can do her justice

I think I'll add Mimic to my list of ponies to look for at the fair. I'm hoping to only spend $250 though so I may not end up getting her if everyone has her priced at $90+.

I never thought I would have a Mimic. I swear I wrote her off as the very last ponies I would have because of her high price.
I did a custom for a friend which turned out me doing more customs for her. I now customize a pony every year for her. She knew I loved Mimic and she bought her for me as a gift. She is one of my best friends now. Shes not really into ponies but she does collect china.
I still have that mimic and when I first got her I was just in awe. I swear I must of looked at her for a few hours. I thought it was a dream.

It was around fifteen years ago. I was out doing some door to door volunteer work with my aunt and I spotted Mimic. My mom and stepdad were coming to town to visit and I told them about Mimic so we left my apartment and went over, taking a bag of ponies to see if the householder might trade or sell her if Mimic wasn't already the favorite of a kid in the house. Turned out it was a little old lady who worked at the Salvation Army and Mimic had been donated to the store. She thought the pony was cute and no one else wanted her so she took her as a window decoration. She didn't want my ponies or money but offered to give the pony. She didn't look well off so my parents gave her some money anyway and I came back one day with a stuffed animal gift. Mimic has sat in my collection shelves ever since and won't ever be leaving. I recently lost my aunt who was with me when we discovered Mimic so the little green unicorn is even more special now.
I'm on the road working for the next few weeks so I don't have a pic of the pony but she's in pretty good shape. Hair is mint. Parrot has a tiny spot damaged but no spots in the plastic. Eyes don't have their sheen anymore but that's ok. Body faded a bit, I guess because she lived in a window.

Yes I am in awe. What a cool story! I can remember when I first started collecting I saw someone had a pony in their window on Main St in the town I lived. I think it was a baby, but I can't remember which one it was.

Well I bought a mimic off ebay for $90-$100 I think. But it was for Mori_lestrange for dog sitting for me for 10 days. With my 4 dogs, not having to send them to a kennel it was the best purchase ever

I won my Mimic on ebay. :biggrin:
She's in very nice condition in my opinion (also I'm not super picky). But I had to pay some money for it.
Mimic is the pony I've paid most for. ^.^
And I'm a fairly new pony collector (been collecting for less than a year).
I'm not a very patience person.. haha ;)

Yes, you must house/pet sit for someone for 10 days. If after the time is over and all pets are alive and you've managed not to burn down the house you are awarded with a Mimic. :newpony:

I don't have a Mimic; I've narrowly missed out on one twice. I've spotted two Craigslist lots with her in it; the first one the seller agreed to sell to me than sold to someone else; the second one, the seller agreed to sell to me and then mentioned the next day that someone had bought a few of them (including Mimic, although I don't think she knew her name) and let me lower my offer price on the remaining lot. I just have to laugh, though. One of these days I'll find a lot with her in it and she won't sneak away! :P She does turn up fairly frequently in Ebay lots, though, as others have mentioned. It's not impossible to find one!

I used to feel that way about her more so I didn't like twinkle eyes then I found a perfect Fizzy at a thrift store and got my own Galaxy and now I think they roped me in....

I know :) it happened to me with G2s they were not appealing to me until i went for "few " ...... Now after hundreds of them ..... they are the queens of my collection :)

Mimic is different. I think she has magic to make people want her. XD. But I loved reading the Mimic in the window story, and congrats to the person with the BIN!

It took me about an 18 month hunt to get mine. I finally bought her here on the arena from a member in the US who was selling her entire collection. I can't remember exactly what I paid for her but it was reasonable and she is in pretty good condition. If you can be patient the right Mimic will come along for you! :)

I was hunting a Mimic a few years ago, and if you want one in fair/poor condition, it seems to be about $50-60. If you want one in good condition, the price could be around $100. For one in great/excellent condition, I've seen prices around $300 or more.
Eventually I just customized my own, which I love just as much =)

I'm not all that fond of her, I don't like her pose. But she grew on me. She has a mohawk which actually suits her. Also she has some cancer spots and a smudged symbol. She tends to fall over, but like I said, she grew on me.

Looks mint with card rather than on card. Which in my estimation makes the card worth about $200 in that sale. O.o. I've seen MOC Mimic on ebay before, but it sold for an obscene price.
I love my Mimic and her card, but you know, if I thought someone would pay $200 for the card on its own, I might be convinced to sell it ><.

Ive been looking in auction lots for her, seeing if anyone doesnt realize what they are selling! She is probably my G1 grail. I love TE ponies soooo much and I have got to collect all of them someday!

I just paid the usual price for her a few years ago, around $80. She was a birthday present to me, from myself! :P I am envious of those who managed to get her for cheap.

Other then the fact that she's a sort of Collector's Status symbol and starred in an episode, I really don't get the crazy triple dollar price tag and high demand. Like Rapunzel, I personally don't like the way she looks. But to each their own and she is certainly exotic, I might be more interested if she was a vibrant green and not that pale green tinted white.

The thing is, that Mimic is not RARE she is just POPULAR. SO the chances of finding her in the wild are just as good as any other twinkle eye pony (which is to say not super common, but not impossible)

I bought one for not much that had a slight haircut in the mane, then PKW kindly repaired the cut bits for me with genuine pony hair, so she's as good as new! Obviously if I was going to resell her I would say about the rehair so she wouldn't be worth the big bucks, but that wouldn't bother me, and I won't ever sell my ponies anyway!!! I don't have the money to buy perfect condition ponies, so I don't mind getting the cheaper ones that need a bit fixing up!! Especially as there's lovely people (PKW :biggrin:) who are so talented at doing all those repairs!!

I got my Mimic on a BIN out of British Columbia, Canada at about 2am for $9.99 :) she had a little mousie nibble to her horn and hoof, hence the low price from the seller. Once she arrived I carefully filed her horn and the hoof to smooth them a little. She was perfect otherwise and even still had her pink streak and the shine on her eyes. She now lives with my best pony friend here on the Arena and I know she's appreciated the way she should be :)

My mom bought me my Mimic off eBay in 2003/2004. I wish she was in better condition, but at the time I screamed from excitement because Mimic was a super grail of mine back then. She's still a proud piece in my collection. As a collector of many things, I can tell you that good things do come to those who wait. I collect Ball-Jointed dolls and it took 2 years for someone to list the doll I was after, and I finally got her. Just check back often and never give up! I know auctions are tricky though, especially for a popular items, I can't help much with that because I rarely bid - i always look for 2nd hand sales from collectors in need of quick cash who will sell off a valued pony/item. :work:

You say you filed yours down? Did you use a certain grit of sandpaper or what because mine is the same way but I've been too nervous to mess with her. >_<

I actually used a nail buffer with varying degrees of grit...it was pretty fun polishing a unicorn's horn!! I found sanding it from below to the point was the best way and didn't use the really coarse side, just the 2 fine sides and the buffer....and a LOT of patience!
