Title: Shopping at Goodwill
Post by: mlp_loving on January 28, 2015, 01:13:35 PM
I think i'm gonna stop by a Goodwill after work. Hopefully I'll find some ponies. Wish me luck!  :thumb: If I happen to see any of the 90's Littlest Pet Shop or the Polly Pockets I will for sure have to get them since they were big childhood toys.

How often do you all shop at Goodwill (if you have one)? And what types of 80's/90's vintage toys do you usually find there?

I never go to Goodwill.  None of my local ones even carry toys anymore, though they all used to!  There's at least 6 nearby and no toys at any of them.  It's where Target clearance items get marked back up and go to die.  I'm so jealous of all of you that have a Savers or Value Village near you, I have this image in my head where you just walk in and there are bags and bags of ponies thanks to all the hauls here!

I go often after work since it's just an exit away. I find something pony related often! Found a g1 playset a few weeks ago, some g3s two weeks ago, and today a styling size g3 with her hair cut that I passed on. The only annoying thing is they write the price in marker on the bottom of the ponies feet. -_-

I try and go once a month. I score G3 galore there, which I don't even collect but can't seem to leave behind.

Probably rather frequently normally but haven't been in a few weeks.

Usually once a week, but not always. Only have time on weekends. Occasionally go to the actual store in the area, but more often the pay per pound. Every once and a while there's a gem or two for ponies or 80's toys. Last weekend, three G1 puzzles within two bins, G1's not that often...
I mainly go for ponies, rainbow brite, smurfette, other 80's stuffies...

Me and my bestie LOOOOOOOVE going to goodwill! We try to go at least once a week. Although it is hard to find toys there! The pay-by-pound one is one of our favorites...I get some pony things and other cute toys there, and my friend loves getting tons of clothes (which we wash!) at dirt cheap prices!

I am tempted to go into one though I despise the idea of supporting them in any way as a charity.  But... ponies...  want to find ponies...

I've only ever found a couple of 80s/90s toys at my Goodwill (a Lady Lovely Locks, a 90s Teresa doll, and a '99 Pikachu plush are the only ones I've brought home) but they at least tend to have a decent amount of toys, which is... a lot more than I can say for the other thrift stores around here. I'm still hoping I'll find a G1 or G2 one day...

I kinda feel that way about Salvies but in the end I shop there because I have no control over where people donate the things they don't want. If I didn't buy them some ebay reseller who thinks "vintage" means worth hundreds even for a Posey or a parent of a destructive toddler will snatch them up instead. I still refuse to donate to them but I'm not going to lose out on something because of it.

Well my trip to Goodwill was an absolute fail. Not only did they not have any ponies, but they barely had any toys at all.  -_-

I decided to check out an even bigger and better thrift store though. I had to drive a little further but it was worth it. The only pony I found was a purple G1 Baby Ember. I already have one so this one was extra and only 89 cents. When I got home and removed the price sticker though, I noticed it was covering the dark pink highlighter on her.  -_- ANy tips on how to try and remove that? I also found a bunch of 1990 and 1992 McDonald's Happy Meal Barbies still in their original packaging! I had to buy them! I also scored a cute Care Bear Friend Bear plush keychain and a Cheer Bear mug. A few more items as well. I'll post a pic tonight. I'm defitely going back soon!

I find ponies at the local salvo once in a blue moon, they are not very common at all anymore.

Lucky you found her!  My local goodwill closed, though I do have a savers in walking distance.  Hardly find anything there, latest find was a CB AJ (first G1 I've found in years) with pin dot missing an ear ^^;;  I rescued her anyways.

In the UK we don't have massive thrift stores just small charity shops. I never find anything in my local charity shops. Sometimes you can get lucky with 80s and 90s toys at car boot sales but they are often asking stupidly high, ebay, prices for their stuff. Would love to go thrifting in the US though!
