I'm just curious what the Arena's opinion on tinsel pony hair is.
For me, I really hate it. It's pretty hard to tame and in my opinion, looks a bit tacky except on a rare few ponies. With G4's I usually sit there for an hour or two and try to pluck most of it out but with the older generations I don't want to do anything irreversible I might potentially regret a few years down the line, who knows.
What do you think? :what:
(everytime I come back from a hiatus I remember about the pony emoticons, they're just so cute and I love using them at every chance I get, lol)
-
In general I don't mind it. Well not on G3s, I can't detinselize em because they're not made anymore
When a G4 has tinsel, I get to detinselizing em ASAP :/ I don't like it...
So overall, I dislike iridescent tinsel, it gets all crinkly and raggedy when heat is applied to it, but I LOVE colored tinsel. MLPs that have colored have no problems when it comes to heat c:
Probably didn't make any sense...I'm kinda outta it O.o

rawr! that's how i feel about it.
me no likey.
i don't hate it, but i avoid ponies with tinsel, unless it's braided and completely pinned down. no likey.
-
I actually really like ponies with tinsel hair, in fact, most of my collection has tinsel hair. Even when it's crinkled, I still like the look and feel of it
:lovey:
I dunno why I like it so much, it feels kinda princessy to m *shrugs* I've never felt the need t de tinsel a pony, though i have been annoyed with g4 tinsel in the past, it (like most things I tend to dislike) grew on me.
-
I like it alot. :3
-
I can't stand G3/4 tinsel, it's so hard to tame. :( I have one G1 Princess and even though her tinsel is crinkled a little bit, it's much nicer to handle.
-
I only like it when it's new and straight ;)
-
I'm generally ok with it. In some ponies I even actively like it. I'm not a fan of the iridescent stuff you see in a lot of the G3s. That stuff's impossible to tame. I do like really mint tinsel though. The G1 princess ponies had some nice tinsel, and a mint Rapunzel is a wonder to behold.
-
It depends on the pony. I like the iridescent tinsel in G3 Cloud Climber's hair, as it looks quite elegant against that really dark shade of purple, but on Desert Palm it looked kind of tacky to me, so I de-tinselled him and he looks much better. G1/2 tinsel irks me a little overall because it is difficult beyond belief to keep tidy, although I do like the look of coloured tinsel in ponies' hair.
-
In terms of G4, the thick iridescent 'Canterlot' style tinsel annoys me. It frizzes and curls and sticks out every which way and doesn't want to be tamed at all! The G4 bodies are already so tiny with such an unruly length of hair, they don't need any more help being messy. I always have to tightly braid it away to make it look tidy. I have one G3 pony, Candy Cane, and she has thick tinsel of a similar kind to the G4s. I managed to straighten her out with some careful cold watering and I'm afraid to handle her too much and ruin it.
The thinner, coloured tinsel is alright though. A quick run under boiling water, a comb and a cold rinse straightens it out nicely, and it doesn't frizz from combing or light play. I have Ploomette displayed with her hair loose and her gold tinsel actually looks very nice. It annoys me on the main characters because it looks stapled on as an afterthought, I'm not keen on the bolder colours like navy blue or pink unless the pony's colour scheme is built around incorporating that particular shade.
If Hasbro has to put tinsel somewhere, I wouldn't mind it if more 'special' ponies had metallic tinsel accents in their hair. Princess Gold Lily would have looked fine in gold, and Princess Sterling in silver. I'd like to see ponies with bronze, copper or white/pearly tinsel too. The G2 unicorns with magic wings all look so beautiful in metallic accents, I'd like to see another line like them.
-
I used to hate it, but since collecting the G1 princesses I've grown rather fond of it :) Though I don't like crinkled tinsel. I like it new and straight like they were just taken out of the box!
I think G3 Strawberry Reef looks especially pretty with her red tinsel :)
-
I like it.
I like to put it in customs too!
-
I hate it with a fiery passion!
-
I like it but then again I don't like it. Wild, unruly tinsels...
-
I like it :)
But then again, I like ponies original and unchanged from how they were released. So if a pony had tinsel when made I am cool with it.
-
I love tinsel. XD It's pretty, even if it can be a styling nightmare. I especially love the colored kind; it just adds something, in my opinion.
-
I don't hate it, don't love it either. Some ponies look fantastic with tinsel, some look ridiculous.
The only pony I ever detinseled was a Waterfire, for whatever reason I just really hated her tinsel and figured she's common enough that no one would care. Haven't regretted it since, I love her perfect orange curtain of hair!
The pony in my collection that wears her tinsel best is SHS Twinkler. I love to braid her tail and make her red tinsel weave through. Very pretty!
-
Oh I adore tinsel! I have a very heavy hand when it comes to putting tinsel in my customs. I think it adds a beautiful shimmer. Granted, when you try to style with heat or it gets old and crumpled, it can look... Sad. But I'm under the impression that all things can be fixed, and sometimes frizzy tinsel on a G1 just makes her look loved!
-
Love it! It's fiddly to work with for custom ponies, but looks amazing when finished.
-
I hate it. Tinsel belongs in trees, not on toys. I pulled it out of all my G4 ponies, else it just looks a horrific mess that refuses to be tamed and is ruined if you brush it too much. Also, all those companies putting tinsel in plush fur and in clothing? Stop that. That crap is scratchy and uncomfortable  Oh sure it looks pretty but if it makes the product hard to use then it's a Bad Idea.
-
I wish they'd instead just add alternate colors normal hair instead. -- but since they never do that.... I'm okay with tinsel!
-
I LOVE tinsel. It's so shiny and sparkly. Right up my alley XD
-
Hate it. :-p
-
I dont mind it on G1s they used the option sparingly. However G3s its just not that great. :/ G4s is so/so.
-
I meticulously and painstakingly de-tinsel my ponies. I can't stand it.
-
No to tinsel. The latest wave with just a solid block of tinsel makes me shudder because the texture feels so icky. I've only detinseled one pony since it takes so long but it's so menial and repetitive I like it. (I love little busy tasks!)
-
I live for tinsel and glitter.
-
I don't have any hard feelings against tinsel, in fact, some of the ponies wouldn't look as good if they didn't have any. :)
-
I'm actually a big fan of tinsel. I'm always attracted to things that sparkle and glitter, and tinsel certainly fits the bill. It's one of the reasons I loved the G1 Princess Ponies so much..... pretty colorful tinsel in their hair.
I really like the color of the iridescent tinsel too. It's so pretty.
-
I love tinsel! I don't really bother with styling my ponies' hair all that often anyway so it's not that much of an issue for me.
Also, I don't understand the whole "I won't de-tinsel old ponies but new ponies it has to go!" Eventually G4 will stop being produced so why is their tinsel any different from G3 or G1 tinseled ponies? Just because they no longer make 'em? At one point in time I'm sure there were just as many of the older gens being pumped into the market.
-
It depends on the pony.
This. I love it on the sparkle ponies, and I like it on the G1 princess ponies, but I don't like the tinsel forelocks on the Year 6 princesses. Not a fan of the iridescent stuff, either.
-
I like it fine except for the fact that it seems to be a cat magnet. =p
-
I don't really like it. I accept it on my G1s but I've detinseled most of my G3s.
-
I find it lovely on some Pony's. But I more prefer the ones without cause it is indeed harder to keep in tow. ;) Still, it doesn't prevent me from still searching a few Pony's I adore and want for my shelf.

I actually found pony tinsel that I HAAAATE! XD
I found the Princess Twilight brushable single today, and oh man, that tinsel is just yuck. I think mine will be getting a head swap with a regular Twi shortly.
-
The crinkled tinsel really is a thorn in my eye, lol, but I do like the tinsel on the G1 princesses. Not to fond of the big chunks of tinsel sticking out of their foreheads though, but I like it when it's in their mane.
-
I like it :). But I usually want a pony who has pretty good hair and tinsel that aren't too wild..
But I do not get why g1 princess got this big chunk of tinsels in their forehead.. looks so weird.
-
I think it's pretty. It wouldn't suit a lot of ponies though. I like it on princesses. Despite how unruly it makes their hair, I feel like the glitter makes them look more princess-like.
-
I love how it looks, I hate the fact that it pulls out so easy in the stupid comb. my poor princess tiffany lost a lot of hers and I try to be careful with Fire Water and my Boley Fake Pegasus
-
I hate, especially when I buy g3 Trucks and the tinsel is ruined, my will and to boot, but scared of regret later, the point of most of my small collection Do not have tinsel, I think that devalues the pony itself, like much of the effect of hair shades, do not understand how you can have as many ponies with this material, from what I saw, most of the collectors So like it in ponys type princesses,
-
I love G1 tinsel, it has a stronger texture and a more metallic appearance IMHO. Even when it does the messy balling up it sometimes has in baity ponies, I just love it (mostly for nostalgia's sake I guess) . G3 tinsel I mainly took out back in the day because it seemed more plastic like, not as reflective, and broke easily. In G4s I haven't gotten an of the ones with tinsel yet, but it looks promising. I don't think I will be de-tinseling any of them.
-
I much prefer the coloured tinsel like with with G3 WaterFire.. The standard tinsel can look ok... but only when it's straight. Nappy tinsel looks so gross and it's impossible to tame, even when the rest of the hair is totally saveable.
-
Moonstar has a good point. G1 Pony's with tinsel can't be compared to the other generations. I also have to admit that when I say that I don't mind it on some Pony's, these are all G1 Pony's cause the tinsel is there way better in my opinion.

I'm a de-tinseler.
I love my G4 Luna now that I managed to remove it entirely...one of my faves, actually!
-
As a collector, I like G1 tinsel.
HOWEVER, as a kid I'm pretty sure I would have hated it. Especially if, heaven forbid, it ever got out of control or frizzled.
Even as a collector I don't like G3 tinsel hair (except the series that had Waterfire in it, because that tinsel was more manageable) and I don't like any of the G4 tinsel.
-
Hmm I think if I were to make my own custom and it was part of the design, it would be fine. I mean in that case it hasn't had the chance to get damaged and fizzed out. On regular ponies though, unless they're in very good condition I'd probably avoid tinsel. It's a shame because I love the stuff but on ponies it can be a nightmare.
-
My wife looks at me, and says "You'd better get used to tinsel!! You've got a fair bit of your own!" *points at the silver streaks i'm getting in my hair*
:whoa:
-
I generally like the tinsel on ponies, but I hate it when it's all crinkled because I avoid de-tinselling. If there was a pony I really liked but it looked good only without the tinsel or be very hard or expensive to get with straight tinsel, I'd probably de-tinsel.
I don't like tinsel on any other things, though.
-
At first I hated tinsel because it was hard to take care of. But after discovering that you can iron it with great results, I'm starting to like it a bit more ^^

Iron? I thought heat application melted the tinsel. o_o
