Title: Wake up, little Susie, wake up!
Post by: SourdoughStomper on December 08, 2014, 03:07:47 PM
Before I started working on my adrenal fatigue problems, getting up in the morning was insanely hard. I usually had more energy when I went to bed than I did after night's sleep. Not fun! It would take me a good 20 minutes of laying there, being miserably tired, to convince myself to drag my carcass out of bed.

However, with my efforts, it has become easier to wake up in the morning. Even to the point that once I'm awake, I'm really awake and there's no sleeping in with ease. (That presented quite a challenge for me when Daylight Saving ended. It took me about a week before I could sleep in until the "new" 6 am.)

A different story for my girl, though. Sadly, my daughter with her teenage body and brain, desperately wishes she could sleep in until 9 am and HATES getting up. She's actually considering starting a petition with her classmates to lobby the school to have a later starting time.

Anyway, what about you?

:joe: :coffee:  :snore: :sunny:

I work nights, so mornings are like my evenings. Except for on my weekends (right now, yay!) where I stay up like a normal person.

Nevertheless, whether it's waking up in the evening or in the morning, I've never been one who enjoys waking up early, or... well I'll get until to that. Right out of high school I could sleep in until 2PM. However, I have been physically unable to sleep in that long for years now. I don't know if its age, or a matter of medical problems.

I hate waking up 'early', as in before 7 - 8 hours of sleep, but if I've got that I'm typically happy to wake up now. In fact, there have been weekends where I cut my sleep by an hour or two just to have another hour or two to myself.

I'm strange, I know... I really don't know how I'm supposed to answer this question... I'm all over the place.

I read an article a number of years ago, can't remember where, that said that teenagers body clocks run on a different schedule to adults. Basically, they need quite a lot of sleep, but from about two in the morning til 12 noon is when their bodies would need it. Don't know if it's true for all teenagers but it certainly was for me! Just wish I'd known it at the time, I often wondered if I had something wrong with me!!
Now, I mostly can't sleep past 8.30 even if I had the day off to be able to. Unless I'm ill. I set my alarm 15 mins earlier than I need it, just so I can prepare myself! But once I'm up I'm chirpy, always was even as a teenager!! Think that annoys some people  :0D

When I was younger I couldn't wake up to save my life. Weekends meant sleeping until noon or later.
Now waking up at 9 am is "late", I don't even have to set an alarm to be up before then. I think my medicine, change in sleep meds, and vitamin supplements keep this going. Without it, I wouldn't wake up because I'd be too weak to manage it. Medical problems contribute to it greatly.

I love mornings, so I'm glad to be able to enjoy them again.

No, but my hatred isn't limited to just morning people - until about noon (or whenever the caffeine really hits) I hate everyone and everything, then I'm good til the caffeine crash hits and then I despise everything again.  Except more coffee, or whoever brings me more coffee.  These things are exempted from my rage.  XD

I am definitely not a morning person.  I have to get up at 6 during the weekdays, but I usually sleep until around 8 on the weekend. And getting up earlier than 6, even if I get a decent amount of sleep puts me in a crappy mood.  On the plus side, I do (theoretically) have more time in the afternoon after work.

My workday is 7:30 to 4, and getting out of bed to get ready at 6 AM really really irritates me, haha.  I feel the best when I can stay up until midnight or so and then sleep until 8:30 or 9 AM.  Half the time I don't start feeling creative/ambitious until 9 or 10 PM, which is technically when I should be going to bed during the week. :/

All depends. Did I get home at 11 pm and have to be up at 6 am? OR did I get home at 5 pm and have to get up at 6 am? Throw in the factor of how many days there are of late nights Mon-Fri and equate in the dog getting me up at 4:30am to do business and you can imagine that some days I am quite a salty sailor in the morning. No, I do not drink coffee.

For the most part, I am a morning person. I never used to be. I used to be a total night owl. But as I've gotten older, I like waking up early. Though I am in my top shape in the afternoon, I hate when I sleep in that late. It seems not matter how late I am up, I wake up early. I could be up until 4AM and still wake up around 7AM or 8AM. My job has my body programmed to wake up early.

If I slept well I'll be okay in the morning, and I don't even drink coffee. But if I didn't sleep well LOOK OUT.

Mornings are the best for me! Usually I wake up around 4 in the morning to do my studying and homework and I go to bed around 9 at night.  :)

I'm definitely not a morning person! I sleep better during the day for some reason and in the late afternoons I get REALLY drowsy. But when night rolls around I'm wide awake XD

I was soooo bad in high school. It was so bad I almost didn't graduate! All because I couldn't take getting up at 6 am 5 days a week to be there at 730 am. Disgustingly early.  It was impossible for me.

I didn't have much parental supervision so I usually woke up at a NORMAL time and went into school by like 10-12pm if at all. Bad kid. lol.

I'm much better with it as an adult but still wouldn't say I'm a morning person.

I'm not much of a morning person. However, I do find my overall day is much, much more productive when I go to bed early and get up early.

I'm definitely a morning person (regardless of what shift I'm on with my husband). I'm the type of person who gets up with a big smile and hops out bed singing "carpe diem" ^.^

In the very rare instance where I sleep in, I'm miserable, tend to have a headache from sleeping too much and I totally feel as though I've wasted part of the day.

Mornings are when I try to go to bed. I hay the horses then struggle to sleep for a few hours then stomp around the house and hate everything in general.

Insomnia stinks.

Not a morning person by any means. I can be physically awake, but my brain won't wake up and function at an acceptable level till one or two in the afternoon. I would blame my irregular work schedule, but I've always been more of a night owl than a morning person.

Takes a while for me to get going. Normal morning routine is wake up, open my dog's crate so he can come out and cuddle with me, and browse the web on my phone until I feel reasonably conscious or have to go to work. Then load up on the caffeine.

Im not a morning person and never will be. Im on permanent opens with work too, which is a 4am start to get to work by between 6 - 6:30, I am a born night shift worker and always struggle with early mornings, but I do prefer an open over a close, and its only one of the other staff and myself that are qualified to open and close, so I have to be on one end of the shift.

I hate morning people with a passion, god help anyone that makes a sudden movement or loud noise before I am fully woken up. I will get pretty cranky.

It depends on what time I get up. I automatically wake up early-ish whenever I try to have a lie-in (usually between 7 and 8am) and feel fine but getting up for work (5:30am!) is hellish.

Based on other's responses, I'm obviously not a morning person because I can't believe there are people who voluntarily wake up before 8am.

Though I rarely ever get up after 10am, so I'm not a total night-owl.   ;)

Definitely! I've always been one to pop out of bed, ready to go. Even without an alarm, I'm up between 4:00 and 5:00 most mornings. I spend a few minutes online and then I go exercise. This is the time of day when I have the most energy.

I don´t know how to answer this because I normally have always been at the peak of my game before noon, but now I´m on meds that make me really really sleepy and I can easily go to bed at midnight and sleep to noon.
I feel like I´m wasting the whole day, but right now all I wanna do is sleep, and the cold and constant darkness in Sweden this time of year certainly doesn´t improve.

I am such a morning person!  I wake up on days when I don't have class or work in the morning at about 6 without an alarm.  And on days when I have class I have an alarm to wake up a little after 5.  I commute to my university so I need to be up early to take the train to make my 8am class since my commute is about an hour and the trains don't run that often, so if I miss my regular train I miss my whole first class!

I always wake up fully alert and ready to go since I genuinely enjoy waking up early.  The last time I slept past 8 was the morning after prom last year since the after party went until after 3am.

The downside to being a morning person is that I have trouble staying up late at night and tend to start falling asleep in the middle of whatever I'm doing and I become totally useless after about 10:30 or 11 unless I have caffeine in my system.

I am SOOOOOO NOT a morning person     (unless between 12am and 3.30am count - that's usually when I go to bed lol  :P  )   Actually if I'm totally honest I'm an evil dragon woman anytime between 4am and midday and don't you dare try and be too cheery around me  before that  *eyes hubby*  :dragon:  :silly:
I'm alive in the afternoon and at night (or very very early morning which I still count as night ) , and I really have trouble dragging my butt out of bed. I guess I'm slightly excused due to my chronic insomnia....and the fact that I'm not evil to my pony peeps even if my brain is still asleep and I'm online during my dragon woman moments - *is hopeful*  :hope:  :good:

I'm not a morning person. At all. I hate waking up early. My "good morning" is more like "mrhph". I just can't talk or do anything too difficult too early. Morning classes at school, yeah, no. And later I was late like hour or so (probably not the best choice but I graduated with okay grades and got my job title, so...)

I have to get up early about three times per week because I have some activities, psychiatric rehabilitation kind of stuff. Waking up at 7:00 is just meh. Especially when it takes like 20 minutes by bicycle to get to that building and studying/working/whateveryouaresupposedtodo starts at 9:00 (it depends but mostly at 9:00). Good thing is I can focus on studying or working with my games but still... Early wake ups... ugh.

So yeah, I'm evening/night person.

Im not awake until I have a caffine drink on first break LMAO! It was the same when I worked in the daytime.... i frequently slept into late mornings!

I've never had any problem getting up early, even if I've only slept a few hours. I am a light sleeper as well so I wake eaily and has never understood the snooze thing. When the alarm goes off, I'm up. However with my work I only have to set the alarm during weekends. My workshift usually begins late afternoon weekdays so I get to wake up by myself almost everyday which is usually around 10 am.

Morning is probably my favourite part of the day and when I sleep in on weekends I feel like I've wasted a lot of time. But I don't like classes at 8 AM that much :P It's kinda weird that I love mornings, but have a lot of trouble waking up, especially if I haven't slept for over 8 hours. It sounds a lot like what SDS described in the first post, but it still might be that teenager thing (even though I'm 20) that Juliepants mentioned.

It really depends for me. I usually get 5-6 hours of sleep a night, 7 if I'm lucky - I have a lot of trouble falling asleep earlier than 11pm, and I have to get up at 6am :faint:

I'm sure I'd be more of a morning person if I actually got more sleep, haha.

My answer to this question is so extremely complicated. I used to consider myself a morning person. I have a number of chronic illnesses, but in the past I didn't have very much trouble getting up in the morning, and I really enjoyed the morning (with the dew and the morning sun, etc)! But then... dun dun dun... my doctors started messing around with my medications (also, I guess my illnesses may be progressing). Now, due to side effects and all kinds of other issues, it's a major accomplishment if I can get up before noon. Lately I have been doing better about getting up earlier, but I don't know if or when I will be back to waking naturally at 8:00!

I do think that entirely removing caffeine from my diet actually HELPED my sleep problems. The idea that caffeine helps you keep going through the day and feel more energized is kind of a myth (or, at least, not entirely true).

For me, it honestly depends.  I *need* to be active in the morning, as I run my own farm and have a household of critters that all need breakfast (before I even get mine, lol), and if I can keep myself on a good schedule, mornings don't bother me at all.  However, if I get sick and need to take naps/don't sleep well/need more sleep, that throws me off.  If we have overnight company that keeps me up past my set bed time, that throws me off.  During November, when I'm writing my novel, that throws me off.  Heaven forbid a critter needs round-the-clock medical treatment, because that REALLY throws me off!  Getting myself back on schedule is super rough and usually takes a couple of weeks for me.  I try to fix this by setting my alarm half an hour later, but then I'll sometimes end up snoozing a time or two.  This usually goes on for several days before I bite the bullet and move my alarm across the room so I have to physically get out of bed to turn it off.  If I can force myself to do this for a few days, I can turn back into a morning person again :)

I love mornings, but I don't think they love me. I often wake up well-rested and cheerful, but still take a very long time to get going and am often late for morning classes.
Also, I tend to stay up far too late by accident, so I often miss the actual mornings anyway. I'm just a very distracted person!

So I'm not actually sure how to answer this lol.

I'm more productive when I'm up early in the  morning, but I'm also not a person who wakes up early without fail, so I'm not quite a proper morning person.

Close enough though, maybe?  ;)
