Title: Please help ID this Moonstone
Post by: Pikaboo on November 19, 2014, 08:26:17 AM
So I have this Moonstone that I thought was just a regular one until I put her next to another one.  I looked on mylittlewiki but she doesn't quite match any of the descriptions.  I had a hard time getting a good pic of her color, she's definitely more green than blue, not faded or discolored.

Honestly, she looks discolored to me. If she's yellowed, then that on top of her original blue will give her a greenish tint. But like you said, it's hard to tell from the pictures. I can say that I've had two with slightly different shades of blue: one more clearly light blue and one a bit more turquoise, with slightly different symbols, like on your two. I assumed they were just different releases.

Ok, that makes sense!  I didn't realize she was re-released and also a mail order too.  Honestly I was leaning towards German since I have some other German ponies but that's probably just wishful thinking.

The "German" version that most people refer to - from the Regenbogen set has completely matt symbols, no glitter in sight.

I agree with Elisto; she was released so many times - across 2 years, MO and so many countries that there is a lot of variety in her from body colour to actual hair shade. I think the one you have here is a combination of being just another batch difference as well as a general discolouration/fading.

I believe the bigger symbol one is from the Mail order release. Both moonstone and parasol were released with the 2nd edition rainbow ponies as a Mail order offer. It's to my understanding that the bigger symbol versions of these ponies were the Mail order versions.

I have both versions too ad I love the green one!!!!
I think too, that she is just discoloured or yellowed - but she is sooo pretty!

Being discolored looks good on her, most ponies aren't so lucky!

German Moonstone has no PAT PEND mark ;) her symbols are also painted/metallic rather than glitter.

The smaller symbol doesnt unfortunately confirm her as a MO as her second store release had the same thing and a I think her portrait angled card also had her that way (that last one I ll need to check on). Her mail order release normally had a much more matt glitter to her symbols.

This is exactly the reason why it's so hard to let go of the doubles, because there are so many variations between even the same release ponies.  ^.^

That's right, my childhood Moonstone came on a portrait card and she has a small symbol ;) I still have the card too :)
