Title: My new little girl
Post by: kaoskat on November 04, 2014, 06:54:26 AM
As of yesterday I am officially committed to being her sponsor and I'm completely and totally thrilled! I know I'm completely weird but I'm excited and I don't care how weird it is, I'm sharing! Her name is Joyce and she's 12 and she's from the Philippines. She has the same name as my gramma. :lovey: Isn't she just darling? I can't wait to get to know her! I love her to bits already though and I know she's going to be completely awesome!

That's amazing!  Being a sponsor seems like a really cool thing to do!  Also, she's just the cutest... I hope she's just as thrilled to get to know you as you are.

And I just got a letter from my littlest girl today (Ariana, she's 8) and she is just so ridiculously sweet! :lovey: I'm so excited right now all my happies are trying to explode out!

It is the most awesome thing ever and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to make a difference and have tons of fun doing it!

Ummmmm....... *thinks* 13 years this November 21st! And I wouldn't trade it for the world. And that is awesome! You won't ever regret it! You'll have to tell me all about your child sometime!

I sponsor through Children International. I definitely recommend checking them out if you are interested in sponsorship. You can sponsor children from 10 different countries (including the US) and, while they are based in the US, they welcome international sponsors as well. If you (or anyone for that matter) wants more information about CI or child sponsorship, feel free to message me anytime. I love to talk about my kids and sponsorship. It's like....My favorite thing ever!

That's awesome  After a lot of research, that was the organization that we chose to go through as well :) I look forward to speaking with you more in depth about your experiences as well as ours

She's so sweet!  :lovey:  It must be so fulfilling to watch them prosper with you help.

This actually makes me impatient to adopt, but our life is not secure enough for a child yet.

That is so cool! I don't know anything about how child sponsorship works but it would definitely be something I'd be interested in doing. Do you ever have a chance to meet your child or anything? And how do children become eligible to receive sponsors? Sorry for all the questions - I just find it really interesting.

Edit: I've been doing some research and I think I will do it! It's not too expensive for me and it looks like it would really help a child who needs the help. I also love that Ecuador is one of the countries involved -- I have family who have been missionaries there for over 20 years.

I don't mind questions at all! I've never had the money to visit my children, though I dream of being able to some day. But Sponsors can go visit their children if they want to and can afford the trip. And I think the requirements are a bit different for each country as far as eligibility. Income is a factor. So is age. Girls get priority. Some countries have limits as to how many kids in a household can be sponsored. I'm not sure what else. Once in the program there are certain rules they have to follow to remain eligible. Like they can't be involved with gangs or other things that may make them a threat to the organization or the other children. I believe, at least in some countries, marriage takes them out of the program as well (this may be an exception in certain areas though, I'm not sure).

And that's wonderful! One of my girls is from Ecuador! If you sponsor through CI, message me so we can connect on My Social Center!
