Title: All Hallows' Eve approaches
Post by: thegingerspicepony on October 20, 2014, 07:31:45 AM
Let talk about halloween, anything to do with halloween. Like what you are being or if you are going to any party's stuff like that. Halloween has always be my favorite holiday. It is the one day that you can't get bashed for wearing wolf ears and a tail or a hooded cloak. You are free to express what you want to be every day but can't because society said no. But not on halloween, nope you can be what ever you want! :leaves:

Yay!! I have always loved Halloween. This is my first year taking my daughter out trick or treating. She is 2 1/2. She is dressing up as Elsa. Not sure how far she is going to make it but I hope she brings home a ton of candy!!

Me and my brothers used to use pillow cases for candy bags and by the end of the night they would almost be full!!!

I've never been huge into Halloween, which is very weird considering I'm a cosplayer, but I'm excited about it this year! My friends are having a party at their place this upcoming weekend and I'm nearly finished with my costume and I need to work on my fiance's. We're both being shiny versions of, what I consider to be, very spooky Pokemon.  ^.^

I'm also pretty excited that Chipotle gives you a half-off discount on burritos if you go there in costume on Halloween. That doesn't help my addiction to that place at all.

I'm hosting my very own Nightmare Night party! (G4 Halloween, for the people that don't watch the show.) I've got maybe up to 20 people down as coming so far. There'll be games, music, food, competitions... Everything. I'm really hoping I can pull it off.

The thing most people are excited for is the plushie raffle (decided to have $1 raffle tickets instead of a flat entry fee at the door). I have an Onlyfactory Flutterbat, a Famosa Rainbow Dash and a bunch of teeny tiny Funrise plushies to give away!

Not dressing up (couldn't convince the boyfriend) but  the two of us are going to a haunted woods attraction. Might get our friends to come with if they can.

Normally we host a Halloween party, but this year I just had too many other things going on.  That hasn't stopped me from decorating the house top to bottom! But I am hosting my book club this week, and we're reading Sherlock Holmes, so that will be fun.  We then have a Trunk or Treat activity this Saturday at church (combined with a chili cook-off - yum!)

Then on Halloween we'll take the kids trick-or-treating.  I'll probably pull out my Rarity costume from last year.  My girls are going to be as follows (from oldest to youngest): an echidna, Twilight Sparkle, an owl, and a cat.

Technically, you aren't supposed to go after the age of 12 or 13. However, you can still pig out of candy you buy from the store. ;)

You can do it however long you can get away with it. If you're short and look young, or maybe if you go as a ghost with a long sheet over your body... LOL. You can use Google to see if there is an age limit in your area for trick-or-treaters. Twelve years old is the age limit in my city.

Hehe, yeah, I suppose you could do that lol. I didn't know there are actual rules about age. I'm in the UK and Halloween isn't big here at all. I'll have a look to see if there are any rules over here, though! XD

If there's a rule to what age you're supposed to stop trick-or-treating it would appear that every place I've ever lived has never heard of it.

The only 'rules' I've ever concerned myself with are "You must be dressed up in some fashion"   and "do no property damage".   Other than that kids of all ages, young and old, are welcomed at my door.

My boyfriend and I do our yard up every year, adding at least 1 large piece annually.  The fog machine is usually the biggest hit, especially when we set it up behind the tombstones, so the fog rolls out from between them.

While I'd love to dress up as something spooky I let our yard handle that, while I go for something a little more cheerful (this year a cheshire cat).  This helps when we have kids that are too afraid to come up to the door.  I can go out to them and be relatively harmless looking.

And yes, while we do pride ourselves on how many kids we can make cry we also make a point to give crying kids a little bit more candy.  Usually a full sized candy bar instead of the normal minis.

Btw im 23 and STILL trick or treating! No ones ever told me im too old, I pass as a 14 year old for sure anyways. I just take off my wedding ring before I go and I dont wear makeup LOL. I have no hips or boobs, im skinny and short. I seriously look just like a little girl! xD When I do pass out candy, I will give candy to anyone who is in costume.

Precisely! Just so long as people have fun and don't do any harm, they should be allowed to celebrate Halloween as they wish! That said, I have literally nothing planned for Halloween this year because I completely forgot; it's been quite hectic at work. So it'll probably be Coraline, Trap Door, candles and doodling spooky critters again for me; same as last year but heck, it was fun! XD

This is my favorite time of the year! I helped my BFF yesterday, we finished decorating her front yard (giant spider webs on tree) and fence (black and orange garland). Just need to buy the pumpkins and I need to finish my costume (going as the Mad Hatter). I keep adding and tinkering with the outfit, now in it's third year.

We hand out candy to the kids. So long as they are in costumes, are polite and don't destroy property all is good. Growing up I stopped trick or treating when I was 12. Left it to the younger kids and started handing out candy. And helping my mom decorate the house.

In between giving out candy it's watching horror movies on TV and snacking on our own candy stash. So we'll stay out of the stuff being handed out. :P

Anyone else start wearing their Halloween theme'd t-shirts in August? Cause I do. Most of mine feature skulls, the Grim Reaper or ghosts.  Merry and Happy Haunting.

Yay Hallowe'en!  I'll be doing a couple elaborate pumpkin carvings (haven't figured out what, yet), and handing out candy like the boring adult I am.  :P  I have to make sure to buy more treats this year though - the neighborhood we moved into recently had WAY more kids than I was expecting!

We were able to go to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. It was amazing! I highly recommend it for anyone who loves Halloween/likes Disney. Everything about it was a blast! I went as Belle and my husband went as Dipper Pines from Gravity Falls. A lot of people had some amazing costumes.

Here we are with Pooh and Friends who are also in costume!

I only partially agree with that sentiment, as not everyone wants to celebrate or be involved with it ;) Maybe this particular person didn't actually want to be involved, but felt obliged by kids knocking on his door?

I'd say Halloween is for everyone of any age who wants to celebrate it, and leave those that don't in peace and quiet :)

Lol, last time I went as something on Halloween was thirteen years ago, while I was living in Massachusets. XD

Since then, I wasn't dressing up as anything... in fact, I don't think I ever did.

Where I live, Hallow's Eve (or All Saints' Day as it is called here) is a very somber day. It's a time where we go to the cemetaries and visit our loved ones' graves: put some flowers, light candles, pray etc.. It's basically a day of rememberance and honoring one's memory - that in and of itself is quite morose and depressing, come to think of it.

The concept of Halloween is quite new around here - we're mostly familiar with it thanks to media (movies, TV series, articles etc.) as well as English classes at school. There are even some kids who try to carry over the tradition by dressing up and going around trick-or-treating, and there are of course a lot of people who organize Halloween parties, but it isn't really as wide-spread as it is over in the US.

What infuriates me most is how certain religious circles try to react to the whole issue of Halloween. You see, Poland is among one of those countries that's under deep influence from the Catholic church. Though times are beginning to change, that influence is still there. Recently one of the most conservative and more religious magazines published an article about what to do in case a dressed-up child comes to trick-or-treat. Basically what it all boiled down to was that people in response to trick-or-treating should as said child whether or not he/she is religious, goes to church, knows what demon possession looks like and whether or not he/she wants to become possessed by a demon/devil.

Words cannot describe how infuriated and offended I feel reading this stupid article. Those people have no friggin' idea what Halloween is all about - it isn't some sort of satanic, occult ritual in which people sacrifice virgins and drink their blood. It's about dressing up, asking for candy and having fun. What's so bad about that??

True, Halloween has it's roots in paganism, but so do many of the now Christian holidays. But you don't see people complain about that, do you? -_-

I love Halloween! My favorite holiday probably-  when I lived in San Francisco, it was by far the biggest most extravagant celebration of the year, the streets become one big huge party full of costumed freaks! LOVE IT!

Seattle is more tame, but I always dress-up anyway, and we are going to some kind of troll- party this year, should be fun :D

I also love getting trick-or-treaters (luckily it gets dark early in Seattle so the kids start pouring in early and mostly dry up by about 9).  I can't wait this year, I have a terrifying surprise for them- (I have a scary scarecrow thing that I build and I am going to tie a fishing line to her hand this year so she can move just a bit, and scare the living daylights out of them, hehe!)

Pumpkins bought and we got four mini white ones for free. Candy for the kids and adults bought, separate or we'd start snacking on the ones to hand out.

Going to trace the patterns on the pumpkins tonight, less to do tomorrow.

I know I said I would work but last weekend I got an offer I couldn't refuse, so I worked my butt of that weekend and this past week and got this Friday and Saturday off. So we won't be celebrating tonight, but tomorrow I'll be able to go to the best annual Halloweenparty ever! and I am STOKED! Halloween isn't really celebrated here when it comes to trick or treating, so no risk of kids knocking on our door. But we love our parties. Sadly I wont be dressing up this year as I got this opportunity too late and the costume I wanted was out but I will be in full partygear anyway.

I haven't been able to do anything for Halloween in years. I've been far too busy, and in the last couple of years I have worked nights, making it very hard to do anything. lol

I would dress up, but so few actually go through with it at work that I'd just be the odd one out. lol

So speaking of kids not knocking on doors in Sweden.. the doorbell rang and as we didn't expect company we slipped to the hallway and looked through the door and saw two kids standing there all dressed up. We didn't know what to do so we sneaked back to the livingroom and sat down being very quiet. They rang two times more before giving up.

...with the tools I had on hand (read: a steak knife :P ).  Now it's just answering the door for the kiddies!

Question - do you guys usually give candy from your bowl/basket/etc. to the trick-or-treaters?  Because I just let the kids choose what they'd like, and they often seem baffled at first.  Like they don't know what to do!

Today's my dad's birthday.  We're supposed celebrate by going out to eat.  What do we do instead?  We stay home and eat pizza.  Well, at least I getting paid thirty bucks to give out candy.

I just randomly grabbed into bowl and gave the kids a single piece of candy.  Gave out Amond Joys and M&M's at first then Twizzlers when I ran out of those.

The mall I work at does a trick-or-treating thing.  We have to hand it out ourselves otherwise, we'd be totally out of candy 30 minutes in with more kids coming for a solid two hour block. Even giving out one piece per kid we went through six 5lb bags of candy.  It was nuts.  We still have a small bucket left over but that's only cuz we were hoarding the good chocolate for ourselves/saving it for the poor straggler kids who got in too late.

This afternoon candy crash was future Jenna's problem.  The future is now as apparently I had too much. D:

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Happy Halloween to all!! I had an awesome time taking my daughter trick or treating. She did pretty good for only being 2. She lasted for about an hour and got herself a nice little candy stash. The first thing she said when we got home was.....mommy and daddy no eat my candy!!

We went overboard, we got two bags of fun size Maltesers and Twix's. One bag would have been enough. And just like last year and year before that. We didn't get any trick or treaters. So we have to eat the chocolate now. We got three to four teenage trick or treaters on the year when Star Wars Revenge of the Sith was released on DVD. But that's it.

The channels were covered with Halloween specials, documentaries and films though. I've never seen so many!
