Title: Best Thrift Store Finds You Ever Had?
Post by: parryscereal on September 17, 2014, 04:25:45 PM
What do you consider your best/luckiest thrift store find? I'd love to see some pics! I think my favorite find was a trunk of AG clothes, including the beautiful Gala outfit(2004 I think)! (not my pic, it's from the American Girl website)

As a far as dolls go, two vintage Saucy Walker dolls with hand-made outfits from the 50's.

I don't think I have pictures of them any longer, but they were spectacular.  They were about $5 each and sold for about $80 each.

Wow! Lots of American Girl!

My best find was a complete (unboxed) Jewel Hair Mermaid Barbie. I had one as a child and at $2 and in that condition I couldn't pass it up. I found a Totally Hair Barbie, also complete, at the same location a day earlier but wasn't able to get it because I forgot my wallet D: I'm guessing some adult collector of 90s Barbies had to donate (or their estate did it).

Whoa--these are amazing finds! I think another one of my favorites was a bag full of little Kenner Strawberry Shortcake figurines. Not as great value wise per-say, but one of my personal favorites is a nude vintage Belle doll I found and promptly turned into Saison Marguerite (to the best of my ability--it was my first time sewing Barbie-sized clothes.)

oh my god please tell me that's a "the most popular girls in school" reference.

as for thrifting, though, i have had next to no luck in ponies. i have however found a few breyers, a vintage friend bear care bear,  and some fab vintage clothing from the 60's.

I found a FS Applejack when they were going for crazy prices on ebay. Just the pony w/ no accessories sold for almost $90! Not bad for a $2 investment :)

For things I've kept though, I found a minty G1 Brightglow and a minty G1 Baby Beachball :)

20+ ponies at Saver's. Almost all were G3!

It was my first time ever visiting, and I didn't know they had baskets. My most clear memory is running around the store, looking for my dad, with bags
and bags of ponies higher than my head in my arms. I must've dropped them like, 5 times.

Still my favorite thrift store to check! I've never not found any ponies at that Saver's, not once. I even got 2 G1's from there!

Ooh great topic! Loving hearing about everyone else's finds. My best was probably this small lot of vintage Barbie stuff:

Not as impressive as friends who've found Swirl Ponytails but I gasped out loud when I saw Skooter's little face in a plastic bag :D

Is this for dolls only? Mine are mostly pony related.

Tux n' Tails for $3 at a flea market.

SS Angel for $2 at a flea market (amongst many other cheap ponies)

MO Mommy Pony from a dealer for $30 from a toy dealer. I thought it was a steal.

A bag of mint ponies including TE Bright Eyes, Fizzy, and one of the glow n' show ponies (the unicorn) for only $5 from an antique mall.

A lot of about 30 mint ponies for $25 from a flea market seller. They were all MINT.

An adult Keyper (the bug one) for $1 at the flea market (I thought she was pretty nifty).

That is amazing! She looks in decent shape too, considering her age. The clothes look in super shape from the photo as well.

Thank-you! I was so surprised. And she is. Her arms and faced are a little discoloured but she cost me less than $1! And the clothes are great too.

Bought an MP ringlet ash blonde peach skinned Aussie My Child Doll at a Second Hand store for $3. Sold for $300. I didn't even know it was a My Child Doll when I bought it. I looked it up when I got home and couldn't believe how much they go for. It was by far the best find I've ever found. :)

dollywise I consider my Moxie Teenz Tristen my best find - she was nude and wigless, but cost me less than a dollar. she was the nasty one who started all the dolly love, muhaha XD

ponywise my best finds are Mountan Boy Lightning and Macau Lemon Drop, for less than $2 each (found separately).

I love hearing about everyones bargains!

In charity shops I have found a big bag of vintage Sindy clothes for a fiver, a bag of G1s including FF Minty for £3, and a couple of Sindy horse for £2 each. From bootsales I have had more luck - Flower Fairies squirrel for 50p, box of unopened G1 partyware including letter of how the original owner won a competition for it, for 50p, a couple of Moxie Teens doll for 50p each (one had her wig), and various Sindy bits for pennies.

MIB 1990's Pink Camper Brand new never opened I found about a year or so ago. But I've opened and played with and is in my closet know lol
not my pick but this is what it looks like...

Monster High: I've found about 6 Dolls so far mostly the Gloom Beach and Skull Shores but still I've found'm

My Little Pony:
I found a bag of G1 full of ponies, Earth, Unicorn Summer Wing and rare sea pony, and another time a bunch of Family ponies and i think there were 2 Daddy ponies in the mix of those. But my most recent is an Excellent Condition Lullaby nursery almost complete that has not yellowed for $6.

Tyco Quints:
Back in the early 2000's mom and I were at the thrift store shopping when she spotted a lady bringing in a donation of Quint items. My mom ask if she was donating them and she said yes and my mom asked if she could have them and the lady gave them to her aka ME. YEAY! the funny thing was i did a ebay search for quint stuff that previous night and didn't tell any, one so what are the odds of that?

I would love to find Bijou this way... in fact, I believe the only way I would be able to get her would be this way, unfortunately I just can't justify the price she's usually going for on eBay  >_<

Let's see....This week I found SHS Sunblossom with intact earring and pink hair, Party Time with almost no regrind, NBT baby Dibbles, Sunshine pony Beach Ball with NO head/body mismatch, perfect symbols and hair that is smooth and soft and still changes color! Also found G1 Bride, Sunshine Sundance with soft color changing hair, regular Sundance, Peachy, and the best EVER, Slugger with his bandana! Slugger has a couple of small spots of regrind but it isn't horrible, his hair is soft and long, and he even had his MINT bandana!
I've also found lots of Monster High, Deluxe Rarity and blue crowned Twilight EQG's, vintage Jem dolls, LLL herself and 2 Silky Manes and an entire bag full of every accessory for the G1 Nursery (including bow) and it had a bunch of other pony stuff in it, including the green Big Brother frog brush!
The most wonderful, valuable and precious one I've found is when I was in Toronto and my BF was in surgery having a kidney and pancreas transplant. I just couldn't wait in the waiting room for 6 hours, so I went thrifting to pass the time and get my mind off the worry and maybe make time go faster. I went into the last thrift before heading back to the hospital when a little orange foot caught my eye. It was Fashion Style Applejack with ALL her accessories for $2.99!! I knew then that it was a sign and that he'd be Ok, and he was. I'll never sell this pony because of that :)

I also found Bonnie Bonnets, Princess Serena, Hula Hula and I forget who the last one was plus a baggie full of accessories including a lollypop barrette! Each was $1.65.
My Mom called me about MIB Strawberry shortcake dolls in an antique store across town and had all of them put on hold for me. I picked up like 6 for $12 each and sold them for $35 to $50 each.

Ooo... I love hearing about finds.  It gives me hope.

I haven't found anything really rare.  But there are two that I just love.

A Liv doll.  She had a mark on her forehead but it came right off and a mystery barbie.  I don't normally like Barbies, but she looked so familiar and lost that she had to be rescued.  It would have been like leaving family or something.  I think my sister had one just like her.

I recently found a Bambi ornament from the 60s-70's! Hes all old lookng and flocked in fuzzies. Appatently he was part of the Walt Disney Production collection ornaments and were sold at Sears, there were 3 different Bambi ornaments. I recently restored him since he looked all beat up!

I also found a lion king print from the 90's someone framed, but I didnt think to buy it.
