Hey, everyone. :wave:
I'm trying to get myself revved up to host another Derby this year.
I haven't fully decided yet, but hopefully I can do it! They seem to be fun, but a lot of work. I have been struggling with energy, lately. So I need plenty of cheer leading! :cheer:
Last year, we had a double sized Derby of 128 ponies, where all four generations contested against each other to see who would come out on top. It was G1 Gusty who won last year. :woot: This year would be a normal size Derby of 64.
Usually, I just have a random mix of popular ponies from any generation. However, I've done a theme of baby ponies and I've done a theme of G3 only ponies.
I am thinking of a few themes for this year. Let me know what you think of them, and maybe suggest ideas of your own. There are four divisions, by the way, if that helps.
* I was thinking of a season theme. Ponies that could represent one of the four seasons. I'm not sure it that would be too ambiguous.
* Food-symbol ponies.
* Princess ponies from all generations, if there are enough of them. (I would need 64.)
* Ponies with celestial body symbols: stars, planets, space, sunshine, etc.
* Holiday ponies?
* Divisions based on popular G1 poses? Like a collector pose division versus a trotting pose division?
* Maybe one division could be nothing but Nirvanas. Or maybe half the race is Nirvanas another other half is their ordinary counterparts?
Please tell me what ideas you like or have and maybe we can start planning for this year's Derby. Talk it up! :cheer: Help get good ol' Stomper excited and energized.
And for newbies who have absolutely NO IDEA what I'm talking about, I shall link you to ArenaDerby. Go to the profile and look up the threads (especially this (http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,330791.msg772403.html#msg772403) one) so you can see what it's about. Mostly, it's a March-Madness style pony popularity contest. There is an opportunity to win prizes based on how well you predict winners.

I like the idea of the seasons for each of the four divisions. That is clear, obvious, and easy to break apart.
Or four divisions broken into:
Suns
Moons
Stars
Clouds or other sky/celestial stuff not mentioned above.
I also like holidays:
Winter seasonal holidays
Spring holidays
Fall Holidays
Summer...????

My vote is for food themed or Divisions based on popular G1 poses :)

Y'know, I guess another theme could be plant life. Flowers, trees, leaves, etc. :wonder: I had another idea but it disappeared. Maybe it'll show up soon. :P

Oh this sounds like fun, I didn't know about this last year but I'd love to follow along this year!
I like the food theme and seasonal theme a lot.
Some personal suggestions:
Artsy ponies- includes ponies with names/symbols pertaining to music, drama, literary, and visual arts
Multi-gen ponies(?)- includes ponies that have been reincarnated in more than one generation (like Minty, Applejack, Butterscotch, Bumblesweet, Cupcake, etc.)
I'm not sure if either of those would make good, even divisions, or if there would be at least 64 ponies to choose from though.

Excellent! I remembered what my earlier idea was, too. Animals theme! Like teddy bears and butterflies, etc.

Day vs night ponies? Who will win! Light or dark!

that Earth vs Sky theme sounds great. I really like The Princesses theme as well. And maybe with some Princes and Queens thrown in, just for the fun :)

Maybe birthday theme - both party ponies and the various birthflower/birthstone ponies that have been released (g1, g3)

I always miss the cut off for predictions, but I've always played along anyway. This year (if you're up for doing it) I'm SO in!
I really like the G1 poses and seasons themes. Celestial would be too hard for me, because those are already my favourites. I also think and All Nirvana derby, with regions as divisions, would be amazing!

I like the seasons idea, but I like all the other ideas too *whines* I just can't decide!!

Whee Derby time!
I really like the pose idea! There's enough variation there to fill up all slots. I also really like the different foods, too.
Maybe rainbow themed, where each bracket is different ponies of a similar color, like all blue ponies, all purple, etc.?
