As I've understood it, content of this DVD is also included on that other release. This DVD is for those moms and dads, who just want to buy some G1-content for their children, but don't care about the complete series set.

Oh no . . . "Parts 1 and 2" for Escape from Catrina and Rescue at Midnight Castle? That means they're the "Saturday morning cartoon" versions with a song cut out of each of them. Darn it! I was really hoping they'd release the full version. :(

Sorry to ask, I'm just confused...are they releasing the entire series as one thing or in separate episode packs. I know Eurocoin said the separate episode packs are just for parents who don't care about getting the entire thing. Sorry maybe I'm slow. :lookround:

I thought it looked like one set for everyone and then a smaller release so people can pick up a cheaper option.
I cant wait to hear what people say when they finally manage to get a hold of them.

I was hoping the DVD with just a few episodes would have the uncut Rescue at Midnight Castle and Escape from Catrina. Does anyone else think that Hasbro must have lost the complete versions since they haven't been seen for years without the cuts? I remember the first when I saw the 2 part Rescue at Midnight Castle and I was upset they cut out "Little Piece of Rainbow."

I just want to see the uncut versions! Every link I've ever seen has been broken or region specified - I've only ever seen the cut versions, I would love to get my hands on a VHS copy even, it's like the sole reason I keep buying DVD & VHS recorders, so I can copy it to DVD shall I ever buy one of the elusive things, and save it forever.

Looking at the runtime and knowing what Shout Factory puts out, we should get the original broadcast version of the series. However, that means the cut versions of the specials. Hopefully the other DVD has their uncut version.
A question I have is if they'll release the movie. I'm thinking of redoing my review series of G1, and having it all on modern DVD would be great for this.

Honestly, I've been wondering about this for a long time, too.. I just didn't like to say anything, heh. It'd suck if that was the case, but you've gotta wonder why the only DVD releases so far have been the TV edits.. :(

I suppose Hasbro could do what BBC did with Doctor Who and ask for copies fans have. I have a really good copy of Rescue at Midnight Castle complete with the original bumpers. Escape from Catrina seems to be a more thorny issue (which is especially saddening because the edits absolutely gutted the story).
However, it being Escape from Catrina and not Katrina might provide some hope.

That would be absolutely amazing if they did - I have a perfect VHS copy of Midnight Castle and a fairly good copy of Catrina (IIRC there's a slight glitch near the beginning, but it's hardly noticeable), I'd be more than willing to send them to Hasbro if need be, heh.
I didn't think about it being listed as Catrina instead of Katrina, that's a good point! Hopefully they will be the full versions ^^

I would be really surprised if the specials were "lost".
They probably just don't know that there's a difference between the standalone version and the syndicated version. Or they might just not care. "Eh, close enough."

This latter option strikes me as most likely - a combo of "dont care enough to look and go with what works best"

I'm pretty sure I have an unedited version of Escape from Catrina DVD at home along with the rest of the series. Maybe I should have a look see, if so then I'm pretty sure that I could find a copy lurking around the shops still if this release turns out to be edited.

Especially what they did to Escape From Catrina. They cut out the entire reason Catrina and Rep are the way are. Unfortunately the version I have has a partial salt and pepper fight at the beginning and some minor issues at the end.
Another issue is the movie isn't among the releases. I got an ad from Amazon for Pony DVD's and one of them was the old release of the movie and $99.
