Title: #ponycollectorproblems
Post by: hathorcat on August 31, 2014, 10:22:07 AM
So trying to sort some pony things today got me thinking - what are the little (or large) problems that MLP brings into your life? Things that without collecting we would never have to worry about?

For me right now: having to stay awake until 2am despite a 7am start tomorrow in order to bid on an auction #ponycollectorproblems

Having to get creative when storing things you don't use very often because your collection takes up the whole basement!

Never being able to sleep in on a Sunday because you MUST go pony hunting.

Have to spend money for every pony you find in thrift shop, cause you just can't resist the temptation.

Funny, I had this conversation with my husband this morning.

Me : ''I just have so many ponies.. they arn't fitting into the space anymore, there is too many. I'm going to have to work on getting something to fix this storage problem''.

Husbands reply : "so, you don't think you have a pony problem? you think it's a storage problem?"

Have to spend money for every pony you find in thrift shop, cause you just can't resist the temptation.
This, which then leads to having to take all the time to photograph and describe the unwanted ones to sell.

Also, needing ever-increasing storage space and cleaning around windows full of sunfading ponies.

Taking a bath usually involves throwing a bunch of ponies in with me that need cleaning. Two birds, one stone.

LOL!  This!

My biggest pony problem is forgetting who I already have... Like, I'm usually pretty spot-on with the want list that I have in my head, but I seem to forget which version of the Collector Pose ponies I have.  I also *always* think that I have SS North Star (and have thought that for about the past eight years, so I *always* pass her up... and I do NOT, in fact, have her!), I *know* I have BnG Bouquet, but when I go to catalogue my collection, I can never find her (yet I always find her when I'm NOT trying to make a comprehensive list of things), and for some reason I keep getting SS Surprise and SS Lofty confused for each other (I have Lofty, but not Surprise... I think, lol!).  Who'd have thought pony collecting could be so stressful ;)

Not having the money to buy every single pony and running out of space on your selves to put them!!

Having to visit the toy aisle in every store you go to as every store carries something different (and especially when none of the stores in your town even carry the basic lines).

Taking a bath usually involves throwing a bunch of ponies in with me that need cleaning. Two birds, one stone.

So glad I'm not the only one who does this

somehow I've developed this unbreakable habit of stopping by every store at least once a week , to look for ponies .

I. Can't. Stop.

I have several of these jokes on my blog, under the tag #toy collector problems.

The one coming to mind is "that awkward moment when you have a pony that keeps falling over and you have to sandwich it between two other ponies just to get it to stand."

Oh it's not just me?

Most surfaces in the house have some sort of pony item on it.....barrette, brush, pony, cleaning items, to be cleaned ponies....the list goes on....It's just a space problem, really....

I've recently had quite a bit of luck with either finding ponies in second hand stores or having people offer to give/sell me their old ponies/accessories.  I'm going to need a solid month to sort through everything and figure out what I have now, never mind sorting/bagging/tagging all the accessories I already had.  I need more vacation time.

Well for me its.....

Going to the toy isle every time I go to the store.

Spending money ponies when I could be saving it or using it on the house!

And taking the time to clean and curls there hair. Even thought this one is not bad at all. :)

Sometimes when I miss out on a particular pony I immediatly go hunting for another one and buy it even if it's not a great bargin. I think I get into the mindset of I must have a pony even if it's not the one I want the most.

Another problem is trying to find the time and inclination to spruce up the ponies I have in my to-sell box, take photos of them and then try and sell. I don't mind doing this for ponies I keep but I seem to have a problem with selling things...

- Keeping an almost identical pony because it is a slight variation to the one already in your collection (I'm looking at you, Italian collectors pose ponies!! lol).

- Running out of display space in the pony room when you still have a few plastic totes full of ponies to unpack.

my issue is all about storage.  You'd think they wouldn't take up that much room but they do.

Did that with G2 Seabreeze! XD

Sorting.... I wish my pony buddy still lived close to me, this was actually fun with her around, and seeing her face light up when one of my spares was something she needed. Seeing things out and everywhere has been sending me into a panic, so I close the door and avoid it. So much stuff so little sorting space and no permanent storage yet (need shelves, glass doors must as I loathe dust). I'm so very slowly through the process of deciding which of the duplicate/small army ponies I keep for my main collection, what will be flawed enough but not too flawed to model ponywear, what can frolic in playsets and look like a good display and which I should let go of to other collectors. would be so much faster if I had shelving, and everything out neatly to compare the spare boxes, but I can't do that as I need to sell of my spares to buy the shelving! not even that, recover from depleted savings from recent vet costs and then buy shelving >_<

I'm frustrated at how I want all ponies but there are just so many of them. It's impossible to keep up with all of the ponies and merchandise being released. I'm jealous at how some people can keep up with it all.

The one coming to mind is "that awkward moment when you have a pony that keeps falling over and you have to sandwich it between two other ponies just to get it to stand."

Yes, a few of my ponies do this too. Last week I got Player, and she doesn't stand by herself very well, so I set her next to a clay Minecraft pig I made so she doesn't fall over.

Just about any pony in the Quackers pose in my collection is tipsy! XD Thankfully I have so little storage space that they're crammed in on the shelf anyway. There's no room for them to fall over!

My #PonyCollectorProblems is trying to keep my pony collection in the dedicated space alotted within my living room.

When the time comes that my hubby and I move to a new apartment, I am going to see if I can get a room for my pony collection as I still have a long way to go in terms of collecting Fluttershy items (those plushies can get awfully big :P )

- staying at the middle of the night to bid the auction
- the space for ponies is shrinking every day D:

Not being able to go to shops without visiting every shop that might stock ponies even if that's not what I'm there for in case they have something new. Religiously checking ebay in order of newly listed to see if anything has been listed since I last looked!

I love going to flea markets and thrift stores and look for ponies. Unfortunaly I have a feeling of "save them all" and feel bad for every one I leave behind so I buy almost everyone I come across, even G2s.. But at home after cleaning I can't be bothered to take pictures and put them up for sell as it's so much work so they just end up in bins under my bed..

Storage problems.. but my boyfriend has said we should move to something larger so i can fit them in a room.

Always trying to save up on change so I don't piss of fleamarket sellers with big bills when I want to buy something from their table.

Blossom, who decides at night to do a summersault onto the lower pony shelves- it's always Blossom and always at night- attention seeking much!

Dust, which is a pain and made worse by my alergy intollerance to it XD

Random people telling me I shouldn't be "wasting" my money on toys. (Pfff!)

Not using the change in my purse, becasue the market is in two days and I need pony money on hand!

Stalking the post, which can come any time from 8am to 10pm, yet often manages to arrive the five minutes I've popped out for milk!

Buying conditioner in bulk, because hellz yeah I wash my ponies with me in the shower and they need to be bautiful.

Shower time- becasue planning ahead whose coming with me every time is important, whose been waiting the longest vs who smells like cigarette butts?

List goes on XD
