Those of you that collect accessories what do you do with them? I don't have enough space to show them off with their pony plus I don't want to lose the little things like bottles, combs and rattles etc.
At the moment I've got most of them in 2 original G1 lunch boxes, a retro G1 lunch box and 2 lunch box sized boxes. But I have more to sort though and I've run out of storage options. I don't want to go and buy more G1 lunch boxes because they're expensive and postage to NZ seems to double the amount I pay for anything plus I can't find anything of similar size anywhere. I don't want to go out and get other pony lunch boxes because the only ones I can find here are G4 and I don't like mixing my generations and I only collect G1s. But I do like keeping them in a smallish container so going through them makes it easier then say a bigger container.
So what I'd like to know/see is what you do with your small accessories.
-
I like to use fishing/craft organizers. I usually wrap soft-plastic items in tissue (charms, petites), but hard-plastic items (brushes, combs, etc) seem to be fine on their own. Clothing and other larger sets I'll bag in Ziploc and put in small tote boxes.
-
G1 accessories are in baggies in a box. The rest of them get lost in a big pile.
-
I have mine in G1 lunch boxes too! They've overflowed to shoeboxes and a craft organizer or two :) I have some things in ziploc bags so I can ID them, but most items are loose and they are somewhat organized  I'd love to be able to display them but that won't be possible in the near future. I do have the high chairs, bassinets and some playpens displayed but combs and pony wear have been packed away. At one point I did have some pony wear displayed on some baits, but then I ran out of room so even the baits are in boxes!
I hope to get some inspiration from this thread! I'd love to see what everyone does with their accessories.
-
I have to keep mine orgainsed so mine are all labeled in ziploc bags, that way if I add something to a pony I already have accessories for I just add them to the bag. I can't stand not knowing which brush belongs to which pony so I can't have them loose, especially if I happen to loose my collectors book with everything ticked off (I did loose it for about 2 years but I'd been on a pony hiatus so I wasn't too worried about it).
I know there're are lots of accessory collectors on here so I hope they'll pop in and help me find a solution or at least a few ideas to try out.

Lately I just throw up my hands in dismay over my accessories. I've been cataloguing my collection and setting up the pony room, so everything's a bit of a mess. But everything will be bagged and labelled so I know what goes with which pony, and keep track of what I have. The bags all go in storage boxes. But I love setting up displays for holidays and such, and I always use accessories in those.

I don't know that I can offer much more than what you're already doing. :) I find accessories are hard to manage but a must have in my collection! I keep mine in plastic shoe boxes that I find at my local craft store. Each pony's accessories are in a baggie labeled with her name. Then I take all of the bagged accessories that belong to a group of ponies such as DNP, Happy Tails etc and put them in a bigger baggie labeled with the set name (I like to organize my collection by set). Then I label the shoe box with all the sets of accessories that are in that box. It makes it easy to find things and all of it stays organized by being in the baggies. One day I will have my pony room back again and it will be wonderful to display my ponies with all of their accessories!
-
Cricket - I love the idea of then organising by set!! I didn't think of that - it would things MUCH easier to find instead of wading through all the bags to find a particular one... I might start doing that if nothing else.
-
Has only a couple G4 ponies, but I have kept all the accessories that came with them. The combs are in a drawer. The ponies that came with hair decs are wearing them. Sunset Shimmer is wearing her mask. The animal friends that came with some of the ponies are being displayed along side the ponies that they came with.
-
Throw them in a tub, someday I will go through them all....someday lol
-
I sell them, lol!
-
Mine are all displayed with the appropriate pony :) It does mean you cant pack very many ponies on shelves sometimes but I find it the easiest option.
-
i could not display them all with the pony, there are just to many ponies per shelf to have there accessories beside them.
i do have them all cataloged my ponies name in a ziploc bag each and that that set or 6 ponies lets say bags get stapled together. now repeat that how many times for how many ponies there are and per set.
my pony wear is also grouped the same way.
if i find a new part i need to a set i drop it in the bag named for that pony and tick it off in the g1 collectors book that came out.
i do have a bag of miscellaneous accessories, stuff i think is pony but not sure until i do research. plus once i pulled out the accessories for the north American ponies i then have to see if i need the double stuff for the overseas ponies. yeah... that is not fun to be honest i want to get rid of my extra stuff but am to afraid to trade it away in case i need it for the overseas / other country ponies.
am i making sense?

Mine are in G1 lunch boxes too!

Woo hoo! Glad I could help a little bit! It's hard keeping a large collection organized. :)

^ Yep, I'd love to display everything together but I don't have enough room for all the ponies let alone my playsets and accessories. I have no idea why I didn't think of putting sets together! It makes so much sense.
My dream would be to have enough room to display everything together but until then please keep the ideas/suggestions coming!

Elfie, you made me smile... This is maybe the second, possibly third post I've read where you are talking about trying to catalouge your collection. You'll have to do a post once its finally all organised. I imagine your pony room covered with little elf leaves.. :)

I love the idea of organising them by set - good thinking!
My ponies are crammed as it is in their cabinet, so the only accessories on display are my cookery ponies in their kitchen. The rest are all *ahem* tossed into a retro old 60's toilet bag that used to be my mother's! I don't have many accessories, though, so I feel I can get away with it. I love the fact that they are in there, though - it's where I used to keep my pony accessories as a kid... until I grew up  Then they got hidden away with the ponies in a box for years.
The awesome thing though, is that my mum found the bag when she was clearing out recently, and gave it back to me! I cleaned it up and voila - back to its most cherished use!

Baggies in a large Rubbermaid container. . . Except my princess accessories, which have their own special princess box. :)

Lol! Don't hold your breath, I don't know how long it will take me, but it will be awhile (and longer, because clearly I'm spending all my time on the Arena talking about cataloguing instead of actually doing the work!). XD

Mine are psychotically organized, categorized, labeled, and kept in individual ziplock bags. I'm so worried about losing any of them it's borderline obsessive.

The barrettes I actually wear IRL, the other stuff eh cram it into a box :D
-
For my daughter's accessories (g3& g4) I either print a stock photo off the net, or take a photo myself of pony and accessories and print it off. Then it gets clear contacted to a zip lock bag. That way we know who came with what, and makes clean up time so much easier  then all the bags go in a drawer :) she also has a folder that has one page per pony that she owns, it has a pic of the pony, the accessories, eye/hair colour, symbol detail and the back card story. Kinda like the wiki site :)
-
All my G1 stuff is in my G1 carry cases... anything from the other gens is all together in a bin. :)
-
Ivy, those pictures are amazing! That would be my dream to have them like that! Wonderful!

^ seconded! One day when I have room....

Stuff like brushes&combs, diaper, baby play toys are packed away until I move and can display them in glass curios. They are stored in ziplocks with the pony names written in marker. Scented and puffy stickers I keep displayed in a hard plastic card protector. Ribbons, barrettes, boy hats& bandanas and baby necklaces are on the pony.

I use these kind of hardware drawer sets. They are excellent for small accessories and really easy to access. I organize by accessory type for the most part. All baby bottles in one drawer, specialty ribbons in another, Happy Tails accessories in another. Many times, each accessory has a tag or label that says which pony it goes to. I used greatponies.com 's checklists. When I was buying large lots of accessories, many times I didn't have the time to sort out whose barrette or comb I had just gotten. So I would pull out those drawers and compared them quickly to what I had. If it was different, I'd keep it. If I already had one, it'd go into a pile that I could sort later and make sure there wasn't supposed to be more than one pony it went to.
There are 4 drawer sets in this photo - one mainly for baby accessories, one mainly for rare stuff and foreign accessories, one for brushes and combs, and one for general accessories.

Ponywear, outfits individually bagged. Also 4 drawer sets here, even though it looks like two.

These are my "I'll sort through them later" bins. Anything new gets put into a comb, bin, brush bin, ribbon bin, or other. Any ribbon or comb that came in with a specific pony gets tagged with that pony's name so I can verify that it belongs to that pony. Behind the small bins are larger ones, which have the larger baby accessories (strollers, playpens, see-saws, etc). I also have a big bin for my Pretty Parlor collection accessories (bagged by country or variation) and one for Greek ponywear. That line is so big, it needs it's own large bin!

Ashlyne I love your photos! I saw pictures before of accessories displayed in cases like yours (they may have even been yours) and that is my goal for organising accessories! I've just never been able to find the cases with small drawers! I've looked at quite a few stores around here too.
Right now my accessories are organized by type in Ziploc bags and stored in a big Rubbermaid. I have bags for combs, brushes, pony wear, pony shoes, barrettes, baby toys, etc. As I don't have too many accessories it's fairly easy to sort through. I was thinking that I'd like to put some of the few barrettes I have into their ponies hair. I've displayed the bushwoolies I have with their princesses.
-
Ashlyne- wow. Very well done!
For me, I'd love to be able to display all the accessories with the pony they cam with, but usually it feels like I'm doing this when I get something new:

Thanks! I really should get a small label-maker and label the drawers, but I know where most everything is by now anyway.
I bought the red set at Target, I remember that much. I think I bought the blue ones at Lowes (home improvement store). They're used to hold screws, nuts, bolts, that kind of thing, so they should be in the hardware section :)
-
If they have them in pink, I'm on board.

Oh my gosh, those are fabulous!! I may have to upgrade my bins ;)
The drawer sets by "InterDesign" look really nice too, but a bit on the pricey side.

I want to go bin diving at Ashlyne's place!!

*lol* I feel that way about my playsets. No display space for those currently!
